Brooke's face fell when he heard what she said. He pleaded with her earnestly, "Please, let's not do that. We are responsible for the death of two and injury to many others. Let's not kill more of this deer, or the Dyson family will be angry."
She waved his worries away and said, "No one will know we did it. If they find out, I'll jist pay for the damages."
He tried another tactic, "If it is meat that you want, we can always buy some from the market. I know someone who sells good beef, mutton..."
She refused. "This is not about me. This is about getting revenge for Arthur. That is something that can't be bought with money."
Then she added as a side note. "Besides, nothing taste better than stolen meat."
Brooks sighed again. He felt the weight of his years catching up to him.
He groaned inwardly and said, "You might be the death of me."
Vena had always been like this from when he escaped with her from their family. She was a troublemaker then and is still a troublemaker.
