Chapter 53 - Unknown Archer(2)

Dozens of arrows flew towards him, the unknown, hooded archer not even having to pull the bow back each time, but instead just shooting out of nothing, as if he was using magic, a magic that Cades had never heard of before as he couldn't feel any magical movement resembling that which he already knew.

Cades however didn't think about the terrain, instead he could feel how the endless onyx chain was wildly swinging with each of his steps that was using magic to push himself forward with great power and consequently even greater speed.

The archer however didn't really care, he just continued shooting forward the arrows that seemed to be varying in size, power, speed and even elemental attributes, some of them exuded fire, heat, cold, some nature, and some other, unknown elements that Cades had no idea what it consisted of.

As Cades ran forward the arrows also began to be further and further spread out because of the great shaking of the endless chains, until Cades was almost there and the archer seemed to be panicking, his body tensing up further and assuming a defensive stance, putting the bow away to somewhere but somehow still continuing his bombardment even now, without the bow.

After that a sword suddenly appeared in the hand of the unknown archer and his hood was finally blown off by the immense speed of Cades, a speed he had no idea on how to measure because the onyx links of which the endless chain consisted were greatly decresaing in size not that he was this far ahead, a sign that another island may be near once more.

Perhaps even another temple, considering the fact that the chains decreased in the same way and relation before he arrived at the first temple island, perhaps these were twin temples, perhaps these temples are connection points for the chains, perhaps these temples might be everywhere in this endless void, but Cades was certain that he had not met the only temple in an endless expanse of nothing.

But as he was thinking that he was finally able to see the face of the unknown archer and for just a small moment he actually hesitated.

For just a fracture of a moment he thought that the archer was a female ehetrian, but then in the next fracture of the very same second he realized that the archer was neither a woman nor a ehetrian, the archer obviously didn't have wings and Cades just had a feeling that he wasn't a woman, but Cades wasn't entirely certain on how to tell that with this species, though from what he had been able to gather up to now it kinda seemed like this species was very similar to ehetrians.

The archer, clad in a white robe that he had previously thought of as something else had very long, bright blonde, golden hair, glowing blue eyes, thin bodily markings that resembled a tribal mask with a light blue ghostly blue.

He or she was very pale but the impeding thing that Cades had just realized was the fiery expression in the face of the unknown archer, a expression that signified what was happening right now, a expression that signified that the archer was about to attack him with the weird glowing white rod, about six feet long, that was in the archers gloved hands.

But Cades wasn't distracted, Cades simply responded with his own staff, his new silver sword strapped in on the side of his waist.

As the glowing rod and the silver rod collided the waving of the endless chain escalated even further, not that the two fighting beings atop them really cared as Cades simply ripped the archer away from their steadfast position on the ground by throwing the archer into the air and consequently following him with a simple jump forward, trying to continue the fight before the archer regained their position.

The two quickly soared through the endless void, Cades sometimes landing on the cabins, jumping up once more and pushing the archer even further ahead until the archer finally managed to get a really good hit in on his weapon, his weapon that had already been damaged after everything that it had been put through without ever having been repaired, a hit that caused the grip of his crystal gauntlet to finally weaken, and then a consecutive hit that cause his last hand to finally let go of the weapon that he had been so proud of.

Luckily he was able to get out the sword though, he pulled it out as fast as he could but the archer had somehow already escaped from his position in the air and was not a few dozen feet ahead of him, running away with a now battered cloak, a barely noticeable problem with his leg and leaving behind a trail of dark red blood that was barely noticeable because of the colour of the onyx chains that had probably never bore witness to such a collision before.

However Cades, now having calmed down ever so slightly after the first collision continued walking in the same way as the archer, not jumping anymore but simply running on the chains, trying not ot lose his balance because of the endless chain.

Cades had tried to kill the archer at first, similar to what the archer had been trying to do before but now he had finally realized something, he had to capture the archer, the archer was the first one he had really met in this endless void, whether a monster or a sentient being, except for the endless amount of beings that resided in the void, slithering, squirming, the beings that had now probably gathered some of their attention onto Cades and the archer, the beings that were now probably looking forward to devouring the loser and the wounded winner.

But uncaring of that Cades moved forward towards the still quickly moving, seriously wounded archer, having slowed down to a slower pace himself, trying not to make the chain swing too much more than it already was, looking forward to defeating the archer and capturing him, or her, to find out about where the f*ck they were.
