Chapter 35 - Strategy

Cades slowly stepped forward, feeling the added weight of his new weapon with each of the steps that made the ice and gravel creak with a ear-breaking sound.

The bright sunlight that he hadn't seen in a long time burned in his eyes as he finally flapped with his wings and flew up, high into the skies, and finally towards the ancient library in which Hekima resided.

As his wings moved up and down like in a melodic frequency he had slight difficulties because of the sheer weight of the newly added weird ore.

While flying away from the nest of the monsters he spotted a few monsters in the skies, some of the harpies that Cades assumed had been outside when he had annihilated basically the entire nest, and destroyed them with practically no difficulty at all.

Cades was still able to easily reach the faraway library and land in front of the forsaken ruins that hid the incredible wealth of ancient wisdom hidden beneath.

He moved leisurely but was still tense as he pushed open the doors to the library and readied himself to hear all the information that Hekima had found.

Cade inwardly prayed that the crow would know a way for him to finally go to the next world, after he killed the fifth and sixth demon.

Hekima was sitting on top of the desk littered in thousands of documents, some wilted and yellow, others new but still yellow, as the material that was used in stead of paper on this world, or maybe just this continent, was overall yellowish rather than the well-known blank white of normal paper spread within the planetary system that Cades lived in.

The crows small head quickly turned around as it heard the sound of Cades entering the underground, stone library, its eyes looking frantic but quickly calming down after seeing who it was.

Then it began talking.

"Welcome back Cades, I've found out about quite a few things.

The kingdom of safety, the place where you fought against Mangel is searching for you.

They've sent out a powerful search party consisting of mostly apex-ranks, a few lord-ranks and a nameless divine mage that is constituted with the power to banish you to "nowhere", whatever that is supposed to mean.

If one can trust the rumours then there is a small monkey-like being with them, probably a kind of clown to entertain them, or a... slave that they rescued from another planet, however, this being seems to know the paladin known as Mangel.

I don't think that you should worry about that too much, but you should probably be difficult and hurry up with the last of the five demons, if you still want to do so."

Cades had been quietly listening and noting, not realizing that he was about Nelia, until he heard that about the last of the "demons".

This upset him quite a bit and he asked Hekima what he meant with last demon.

The onyx raven seemed a bit confused as he began responding to the seemingly stupid question.

"Yes, the last, after all there are only five demons on this continent.

Me, the demon of the skies, the demon of the forsaken, the demon of the mountain, and lastly the demon of the sea, a gigantic snake, as far as I know.

The demon of the sea is the most mysterious of the demons, I don't know too much about it but I heard that it is at the higher lord rank and has a peculiar ability, but the information about that is safeguarded from most of the world and even most nobles, it was difficult for me to even find out that much."

Cades didn't said a word and simply opened the atlas, pointing towards the eye drawn on a corner of the map on which all the demons were marked by similar symbols.

The eye was quite simple, a bit archaic but it was still very obvious that it was drawn by a beginner copying another map, Mangel, rather than an expert that was hired to do it, or something similar to that.

Hekima looked at the eye drawn in simple but powerful lines and began talking once more.

"That's the mark for the direction in which the next continent lays...

Didn't you notice that it didn't have a demon-title ?

But this does bring me to my next point, after you are done fighting the snake, and yes, you'll probably win, you should flow directly towards the 'eye', there's no real reason for you to return to this library.

If you really need a break you can just take a few hours and sit in front of a campfire.

I heard that the next continent is full of a race called 'dwarves', I heard that they are very advanced in technology related to dimensional engineering and magic, so maybe they'll know how to bring you to another planet or even access the planetary system you told me about previously."

Cades hat indeed told him about everything that had happened before, in many ways he just needed a way to deal with everything that happened and this little crow had been a very good listener that seemed to devour everything that Cades was saying.

He didn't know what he would do if he was finally back on the planetary system, but he did know that it would be much better for his health, instead of simply dying while fighting an invincible foe that could rip apart entire kingdoms.

But before he would finally be able to hunt the next demon and hopefully, after that, leave this accursed world, he would have to train with his new weapon.

Hekima had previously mentioned that the nearby mountains were filled with trolls at around the apex-rank, trolls were known for their incredibly high regeneration ability, they would be a very useful foe for training with his weapon.

The weapon was completely new to him, but Cades was fairly certain that he would be able to at least use it without stabbing himself.

Cades walked away from Hekima without saying a word, the raven probably assuming that he was just going to battle against the next demon and was already readying himself to fly towards the next continent as well.
