Chapter 164 - Side Story: Cynthia’s Thoughts

Sinnoh Alliance Celestic Town

Wrapped in a bath towel Cynthia flopped down on her back and pounded the bed repeatedly.

"Ahh~!"

Diantha came out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel and looked at Cynthia's gesture and said helplessly, "You stop pounding the bed, your bed is innocent. If you really don't like it then let me have the bed and you'll go sleep in the guest room tonight."

"I don't want it! It's my bed!" Cynthia muffled as she buried her face in the pillow.

There was a great sense of sulking with the pillow.

Diantha shook her head helplessly as well, brushing her short, valiantly competent hair before sitting down on the bed and stroking Cynthia's long blonde hair.

"Tell me, how is it that Cynthia, the dignified, gracious, and elegant Champion in front of everyone, is now taking the piss out of her bed like a little kid?"

Diantha's tone held a hint of teasing.

"Hmph!"

Cynthia ignored her as well and gave a sullen 'hmph'.

"Come on, young lady, what's the big deal, isn't it just that there's a little girl around Rope? You don't believe in Rope or you don't believe in yourself. Also, people Rope told you bright and early this morning and even sent you all their information, what are you still worried about."

Diantha laid on her side on the bed and then broke Cynthia's head to face her direction. Cynthia was seen deflating her mouth like an aggrieved child.

"How exactly do you feel aggrieved, come on and tell me, let's see if I can give you an answer!"

Diantha said as she rubbed her head.

Cynthia was now like a white rabbit that had been robbed of its carrot, she stared at Diantha, stared for a long time, then said, "Diantha, you've never been in love, you don't understand..."

Diantha: ...

"No! Cynthia! You damn girl, can you please speak properly? Did you call me from Kalos just to show off that you have a boyfriend!!!"

Diantha said with quite a bit of exasperation.

"Oops~ No...I'm actually just kind of upset."

Cynthia's face was all annoyance.

She got up and hung her head low.

Diantha sighed softly, then got up, saying, "You called all the way over here with your grasps, so just tell me what's up. Aren't I here to hear what's on your mind?"

"...I feel quite regretful that I can't accompany him on this journey, and now that he has someone else by his side to accompany him on this journey, I feel a bit awkward...it's as if my place has been taken by someone else, but it's clear to myself that even without that Whitley, he'd still have to be alone. Don't want him to be alone, but don't want him around other women either."

Cynthia looks at Diantha a bit accusingly.

"Aren't I being rather selfish?"

Diantha sighed softly, "Isn't it normal to be selfish? Honestly, if you were to go on a trip right now with Lucian, Flint, or any other guy, then I reckon Rope could just fly over here... isn't falling in love just the process of privatizing each other."

"...Diantha you know what you're talking about..."

Diantha sniffed and rolled her eyes then said, "Yes, yes, yes, I'm single and I know what I'm talking about! I'm the master of relationship theory, satisfied!"

The expression on Cynthia's face returned to normal, compared to her usual dignified, atmospheric appearance. At this time, Cynthia had an extra bit of playfulness and liveliness, making her feel more approachable.

Although it looked different from usual, it was a normal thing to think about. After all, everyone puts on a mask when they're out, and they don't even take it off when they go home. Being like Cynthia, who was able to relax herself when it was time to do so, was indeed good enough.

"Enough about that." Diantha smoothed Cynthia's fur before a 'gossipy' look came into her eyes.

She poked Cynthia's waist, which was smooth and flat, and asked, "Cynthia, tell me how you won Rope over. I've made careful inquiries, and I've heard that there are two or three women who are interested in him, and each of them is not ordinary. Lorelei, Sabrina, and Daisy are all interested in him, but they have known each other for such a long time and didn't get Rope into your hands, but you only took two days..."

"Luck, I guess, being there for him at the right time."

Cynthia pondered this for a moment.

"Be specific, be specific!"

Diantha sat up cross-legged on the bed, eyes glazed over, body leaning forward, toes fighting, looking excited and even slightly hyper.

"What are you so excited for..."

Cynthia was quite helpless as she watched Diantha's reaction, this would surely feel like an idol busting if Diantha's fans were to see Diantha in this kind of demeanor.

Although Diantha did not intentionally create a persona, but whether it is normal acting Denki shadow, or the identity of the champion aura has given her an elegant and gorgeous and dignified image. Cynthia too.

But now their performance and the usual performance is really very different.

That's why people are complicated, one side is not one person...

"At first Rope's mind was full of going home... but after meeting the Twin Gods of Time and Space, Rope's path home was sentenced to death and he was disheartened. Personally, though, I'm leaning towards the idea that he'd already basically given up on going home. The Twin Gods of Time and Space just broke his last thoughts. So after being disheartened, he was ready to stay."

Cynthia thought seriously, then said so.

"So you left him behind then?"

Diantha asked.

"He had a natural affinity for me... I don't know why, but he wasn't at all a stranger to me the first time I met him... and I was there for him later when he was at his most vulnerable. He couldn't go back home then. Was confused with how to stay in the world. He was actually quite foolish, having accumulated enough ties. And kept thinking he was avoiding the world."

"So you became a reason to stay too?"

"People are actually pretty good raiders when they're vulnerable. Rope at the time was like a drowning man, I reached out to him, he grabbed it and wouldn't let go."

Cynthia paused at this point and then continued, "Everyone else's failures were simply due to the wrong time. How could Rope, whose mind was full of going home, think about liking someone else... and Rope is a very dependent guy by nature... he grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go..."

Diantha didn't say anything for a long time.

Half the time...

"You're lucky!"

Diantha intoned with envy and exclamation. Then all at once she jumped up and turned off the light.

"Sleep sleep sleep! We still have to meet Kalos tomorrow."

In the middle of the night, Cynthia, who was back to back with Diantha, suddenly opened her eyes and asked, "Diantha, do you like Rope too?"

Only the sound of even breathing came from behind her.

Cynthia bitterly smiled and shook her head before closing her eyes.

On the other hand, Diantha breathed evenly, her eyes shining with a complex divine light.
