"Thena, do we have to do this?"
"Gene, you are too smart to be asking me these kinds of dumb questions all the time. Of course we must go along with my plan."
"Sigh, as expected of you…"
"I'll take that as a compliment. Sis, are you certain that man is gonna show up at the temple at this time?"
"I'm only as sure as Nazz is. After all, she's the one who told me last night during our girl's talk. I can't believe she took the initiative to invite me to drinks!"
Oh, so that explains why Aisha came home past midnight. At least she was hanging out with someone she actually knew this time.
"See Gene, even Apostle Nazz is backing me, so there's no reason to doubt. You wouldn't want to doubt the goddess who spoke to the apostle, would you?"
"It's not the goddess whom I'm doubting…hold on Thena, take a look. Looks like someone's at the temple right now. She appears to be a young demi-human girl."
"Really?"
It's true. There's a cat demi-human girl standing in front of the temple's entrance, ringing the doorbell. She sort of reminds me of my little cousin, minus the cat ears and tail.
"Hmm, a green cat girl. Sis, she's the one you met, right?"
"Yeah, isn't she a little cutie? She looks a lot like Kila, doesn't she?"
"Sure, whatever. More importantly, you said that she was with a man. That man. Where is he?"
Right now, recruiting the demi-human can wait. Revenge is the number one priority–NO ONE is gonna get away with embarrassing me like that!
"Forget this crap! I'm just going to go ask her to help us like a normal person. You can wait behind this building, or follow behind me. Regardless, I'm going to do what's best for the both of us right now."
Gene makes an abrupt outburst and starts heading towards the girl. If I don't stop him, he's gonna ruin everything!
"Wait, Gene, don't go yet! The party leader, which is me in case you forgot, must go first. Besides, what if you scare her away and make things worse?"
"Just stay back and watch how I do it. Problem solved."
"Wait, Gene."
"?"
Aisha grabs Gene by the arm, pulling him back towards us. I never expected my sister to take such measures–even I was hesitant to do something like that. But only just a little.
"Aisha, what gives? Why are you grabbing me all of a sudden?"
"Look closely, on the top of the girl's head."
Aisha points to the top of the demi-human's head. We squint our eyes in order to try to see better. Wait, I actually see something. No, it's someone!
"Hey, I see a miniature person!"
"So do I, Thena. But Aisha, why is that significant?"
"That's the special man I met–Vex. I can recognize him at any size!"
That's weird, he was normal sized last night, but now he has shrunken. Don't tell me that someone else already cursed him; I wanted to do that!
Well, maybe I still can…
"Welp, that's even better for us. I will politely ask that girl and that man to help us on our expedition."
I hold my hand up towards Gene, signaling him to pause.
"There's no need for that, Gene. I will take responsibility and ask them myself."
Gene looks at me doubtfully.
"Are you…sure?"
"More than ever! You two stay around here and wait for me in the alleyway. I'll make this quick!"
"Is there anything in particular you'd like for Gene and I to do, Thena?"
"Hmm, just two things. First, would you pass me a cream soda from your backpack, Gene?"
"I thought we would save that for later, but sure I guess…"
Gene tosses the soda to me. Ah, cream soda. It's one of the best flavors–and the sweetest.
"Thanks! As for the second thing…"
I pop open the soda and chug it down in just a few gulps .
