The day seemed to pass by quickly as Mr. Garcia had returned as we were getting ready to leave. Mrs. Garcia was overjoyed with Mr. Garcia's return and so was their son. Mr. Garcia began to share his findings with the group and after things had settled down a bit, the group then began to discuss whether or not they should go to the islands or find some other place to live. The final decision was to go to the island and stay there for a few days, if they found anything overly dangerous they would leave.
When the discussion subsided everyone went to their spots to sleep as everyone was going to leave the next morning. I was somewhat nervous as Mr. Garcia told us about the long flight. It was recommended that the parents carry their children as their young bodies wouldn't be able to fly that long and they would slow us down. I looked at the three sleeping baby dragons that were snuggled up to one another then looked at Lucas.
"Hey, you asleep??" I whispered to Lucas. In response Lucas slowly opened his eyes and blinked then whispered back "no, I'm awake, what do you need?" In a somewhat sleepy tone. I stared at him before whispering "well I was wondering if you would be ok with helping me carry these guys" as I motioned with my head to my wings that tightly held on to the three young dragons. Lucas stared at me in surprise as he lifted his head from the ground before whispering back "I thought that was the plan all along?" In a somewhat confused tone.
I blinked at this before a slight chuckle escaped me. I then whispered back "ya, your right, that is the plan" with a smile on my face as I laid my head back down. Lucas soon followed as he too laid his head back down and we both fell asleep. The morning came swiftly and everyone was getting ready for a long flight.
When the first light of the sun hit the ground, some early risers began to go around and wake everyone up. It didn't take long before everyone was up and talking in excitement about the new islands Mr. Garcia had visited previously. I was awake at this time as well and the littles had all gone to the river for some fresh water. Lucas was with me as we waited but then a thought came to mind.
"So who do you want to take?" I asked as I looked at the three little dragons that were fighting over a drinking spot at the river. Lucas stared before saying "I will let them decide whether to go with me or you" I nodded at this before they came running, they seemed to be racing each other. Rah seemed to have come in first by a hairs worth from Jay and Nikko was a full dragon behind them. They seemed to have left him behind when they ran.
"That's not fair, you guys had a head start" complained Nikko as he finally reached us. Rah and Jay looked at each other before Jay said "you should have run faster" with laughter in his voice. Rah chimed in saying "ya, if only you were as fast as me". Nikko frowned before saying "that's not the point, and I would have won if you guys didn't have a head start" as he began to pout. And with that they began to bicker with each other over who would win.
I soon interrupted their fierce debate asking "Are you all ready for the journey?" And with that silence followed before they all began to node their heads like chickens. I heard a light chuckle from Lucas as the children kept nodding. I smiled slightly before saying "as you all may know I can't carry all of you so you will have to choose your rides" as I motioned with my head to Lucas and myself.
The children froze before Jay dashed towards me, slamming into my stomach. I was shocked as I looked down and saw him grab my front leg with his as he hid his body behind it. He then pocked his head out and stuck out his tongue with a face that screamed "I win". I then looked at the other two and they ware shocked expressions before looking at each other and darting towards me.
Nikko crashed onto me first before Rah and I just sat there. Nikko then looked at Rah and made a smug expression then turned his head to Jay and said "hello fellow passenger" with the same smug expression on his face. Rah then slowly walked over to Lucas, side eyeing us before she sat down next to him.
"Ok, I guess that decision has been made" said Lucas with a big smile on his face, trying to hold back his laughter. I grinned at this before we all heard the announcement from Mr. Garcia. We had about a minute before we would leave. In that minuet I wanted to fill myself up with water as we could get food from the ocean but not water. I walked to the edge of the river as Lucas trailed behind with the kids.
Over the past few days they had grown close to Lucas as the children started to play fight as well as kept up with us. We soon reached the water and me and Lucas went to drink while the kids continued to play.
The minute was short as we were all called to gather for takeoff. We spread out, every adult or child carrier had to be a dragons wing length apart. At Mr. Garcia's command we took off, one row at a time and the next could only go when the child was safely tucked away in the parents arms. There were about four-Ish rows and I along with Lucas was in the third row.
When it came my rows turn we all jumped into the air, stabilized ourselves before the children would fly over to us and we would grab onto them. I grabbed Jay with my front paws holding him tightly then grabbed Nikko with my back legs. I made sure both were safely secured and comfortable before I went and flew over the cliff where all the other rows dragons were.
Lucas was already there with Rah as they were talking before I joined them. "You ready?" I asked as I looked at both Lucas and Rah. Rah smiled at me then nodded then glared at Nikko for taking her spot. Lucas said "yes, how about you?" I nodded in response before I heard Mr. Garcia's voice once again. He was holding his son as his wife flew next to him.
He reminded us to stick together, not to wonder off, and to pay attention to our stamina. Then we all began to fly higher and faster over the open ocean. The waves sparkled as the sun hit our backs and reflected off the surface for the water, the fish hid from our passing shadows. -It's so beautiful- I thought as I looked at Lucas and asked "you holding up well?" Lucas looked at me in response and nodded his head before he asked back "what about you" as he looked at the two dragons I was carrying.
I smiled then looked at Rah who had fallen asleep from boredom. The sun seemed to move faster then expected at it was soon dusk. Upon Mr. Garcia's command all light fury's were to move to the outside of the crowd and circle all the remaining night fury's, this was to prevent anyone from wondering too far or from losing the group as light fury's where incredibly visible at night. I still stayed close to Lucas as we flew to the islands. Not long after a storm seemed to be approaching from afar.
Everyone became somewhat nervous at the sound of the thunder and lightning. The children were woken up from the loud murmurs and thunderous roars from the sky. "What's going on?" Asked Nikko in a nervous voice as he tried and failed to look past Jay's tail. "There's a storm up ahead" answered Jay with a somewhat calmer tone but still showed a hint of fear.
Rah too was awake and was clinging nervously to Lucas's front arms. When I looked up at Lucas he too seemed to be incredibly nervous as he looked at Mr. Garcia, seemingly waiting for him to turn around and head back. Most wanted to turn back with few wanting to push forward but Mr. Garcia pushed on, leading us into the gaping mouth of the storm.
I took a deep breath before entering the storm then narrowed my eyes to avoid water from hitting them. I then looked at Lucas only to find that he to seemed to be doing the same. The first few seconds into the storm sent shivers throughout my body as the cold water and freezing winds rushed at me from all sides. Lucas wasn't faring much better as he was smaller and a bit weaker, courtesy of our different species.
-This storm didn't seem all that bad and maybe that's why Mr. Garcia didn't turn back- I thought as I steadied my wings once more. At this time the night fury's and light fury's had switched places as the night fury's were slightly stronger than the light fury's. To my astonishment the storm didn't seem all that big as it only took two to three hours to get out of and once we did the night fury's and light fury's switched positions once more.
I could once more see the stars in the night sky but then I looked down at the ocean and thought -From below we probably looked like shooting stars and moving black holes- with a chuckle. Lucas looked at me in response with a curious expression as droplets of water were still fiercely clinging to his body only for the wind to once more push them off him.
-I had to admit his dragon design was breathtaking, If he was in the human world he would probably be a dragon model- I thought as I scanned his body from top to bottom. As this happened Lucas seemed to inch away from me little by little. Once I noticed, he was already some feet away I looked at him with a questioning look that clearly said "what are you doing? we got to stay close, you got my kid".
Lucas then looked me up and down before saying "I know I'm beautiful, but please have some modesty" with such confidence that you would think he was a god that knew everything. I was shocked at this then I thought -is Lucas egotistical??- I, with clear bewilderment plastered onto my face. By this time Lucas was once more by my side.
I then began to scrutinize his face trying to find any hint of being egotistical but all was in vain as his face remained calm and steady but with some exhaustion present. -ya there is no way Lucas is egotistical, no way, right?- I thought as I looked away from his face and back to the ever expanding sparkling blue ocean waters below.
When I looked away Lucas's mouth broke into a grin that was clearly holding back laughter but every time I looked at him his face remained calm and steady. The kids had gone back to sleep awhile ago as most of the rain hit the adults and dragons on the outside of the circle, avoiding the kids on the inside. Time seemed to fly once more as soon dawn broke and the islands were clearly visible.
As we followed Mr. Garcia we began to gain altitude the closer we approached the islands. As we got higher I could see the different biomes on the different islands and was astonished. It was much more lush and beautiful from when Mr. Garcia described it. "It's beautiful" said Lucas in an excited voice. I looked at him in response and saw the twinkling of excitement in his eyes and I grinned before saying "this is going to be a great home".
Lucas nodded his head in response and I could feel his excitement growing as we got closer and closer. I then noticed that the children were still asleep so I told Lucas to wake Rah up gently while I grinned mischievously. Before Lucas could comprehend what I was doing, I quickly spiraled, twisting my body around and around as I clung to both the boys tightly with my feet as not to let go.
Both the boys woke with screams of fright as Jay and Nikko began to change colors, looking as if they were about to throw up. When I knew they had awoken, I continued spiraling for a while before I steadied myself, then looked at Lucas with a triumphant grin on my face. Lucas was shocked and bewildered as other dragons began to look at us murmuring and some were laughing.
Jay then said with a shaky voice that was almost like a whisper "I think I'm gonna throw up". Nikko nodded his head to this, and I quickly felt the danger. "You better not throw up on me" I quickly said as I tried to maneuver their faces away from my feet. All seem to be in vain as the more I struggled the closer their faces seem to get then I looked down and saw Jay grin with malicious intent.
-oh no- I thought before I began to pick up speed, trying to get the island before they actually threw up on me. Even though I picked up speed, the crowd also seem to pick up speed as they were excited to visit the islands and decide where their home would be. When we reached land, I quickly let go of the two dragons and they fell into a pond before I circled back into the air. Lucas watched as he gently set Rah down onto the ground before he himself circle back and landed next to her.
Rah burst out laughing as the two dragons doggy paddle their way to the shore. I then landed next to Lucas and once my feet hit the ground, I seem to have collapsed onto the tall grass. Lucas quickly snapped his head towards me once I fell and with worry in his voice, he said "are you OK?". I was dazed for half a second before I responded with a nod and slowly stood to my feet.
Lucas seemed visibly nervous as I studied myself with shaky legs. Once I was stable, I looked up at him and grinned then looked to the kids that were tackling each other and arguing. I chuckled at this before I looked back at him and said "I think I'm gonna need some rest" with an unsure voice then continue to say "can you look after them?" as I motioned to the small dragons with my head.
Lucas quickly nodded his head and said "yeah, you should find a good spot to sleep and gain some more energy, carrying two dragons must've taken a lot out of you". I nodded at this before I turned around and started walking towards a tree with unsteady legs. Lucas quickly noticed and jogged over towards me, helping me steady myself with his body.
I smiled apologetically at him as we walked towards the tree, and I laid down. I don't think I realized just how exhausted I truly was as I plopped into the cool grass that still had morning due on them. I felt myself relax, as I curled myself into a small ball, placing my head onto my forearms.
Lucas then said "if you need anything just holler. I'll be over there watching the children" as he motion with his head towards the lake. I slightly nodded at this as my eyes were already closed, and I seem to be drifting in and out of sleep. I was incredibly thankful that I had Lucas, if I was alone who knows what could've happened to the children while I had collapsed and who would've helped me carry them here. And with that I drifted into dreamland.
