Chapter 97 - Chapter 097: Reflect and Light Screen

"To think... we were actually swept by a single Pokémon..."

"I get the logic, but that Eevee is just so adorable!"

The Kobe Arena was silent.

But since this was a friendly match, the audience still broke into applause.

Eita let out a long sigh.

He had thought that bringing in Shohei would be a great way to humble their old rivals.

Who would have thought they'd be swept by a single Eevee!

Under the gaze of awe and respect.

Natsume picked up the "Power Anklet" he had tossed aside earlier.

"Good, it's not broken," Natsume sighed in relief.

Returning to Tokyo Metropolitan University's contestant area.

Takashi didn't hide the excitement in his eyes, giving Natsume a firm pat on the shoulder.

"Once we're back, you can pick any Move manuals from Tokyo Metropolitan University!"

Natsume was momentarily stunned.

While Move manuals included training videos and methods, the resources for training would still have to come out of his own pocket.

Natsume's face twisted. "Coach, that's really not necessary!"

"Hahaha, I get it!"

Takashi laughed heartily. "You think it's not enough, right? Fine, I'll give you two Move manuals!"

Natsume: "Thank you so much!"

After sweeping five battles in a row, Eevee was barely injured and still full of energy.

The System's remaining BP had also increased to 2000, and Natsume planned to do two more ten-pulls once he got back.

The Tokyo Metropolitan University team looked at Natsume with excitement and reverence.

Assistant Coach Natsume is not only great at training... but also so strong in battles!

Tomoya, who had lost his match, felt a bit ashamed, but Natsume patted his shoulder.

"Don't blame yourself. The key is to treat your Pokémon well."

Natsume thought of the stubborn Torkoal, as steadfast as its Trainer, and smiled.

"Pokémon will never let you down."

Natsume complained in his heart.

Just like how they always backstab me.

Tomoya was stunned for a long moment before nodding firmly.

...

The friendly match ended.

The Trainer with both strength and looks, along with that adorable yet reckless Eevee, became the hot topic of discussion at Kobe University.

In a way, being swept by an Eevee was like witnessing history.

Eita smiled wryly as he shook hands with Coach Takashi.

"I really don't want to face you in this year's ranking matches!"

Takashi thought about it. Natsume was, after all, an assistant coach, a kind of external support. It wasn't possible to have him step in for every match.

Takashi also sighed. "I wish Natsume could fight in every match too!"

On the bullet train back to Tokyo, Reina chattered nonstop, reliving the heroic scene of Eevee taking on five opponents.

Natsume had a headache.

Is sweeping the entire team really something to be proud of?

Natsume-sensei personally stomping on weaker opponents for training purposes is kind of embarrassing!

That said, after a proper battle, Eevee's strength had clearly improved.

Thinking about how much more destructive it might become in the future, Natsume couldn't help but let out a long sigh.

"Natsume, have you decided which Move manuals to pick for Eevee?" Coach Takashi asked.

The manuals suitable for Eevee included Dig, Shadow Ball, Sunny Day, and more.

But the cost of these manuals was astronomical.

If he chose Dig, Misaki-neesan's building might become uninhabitable;

As for Shadow Ball, Natsume had training methods provided by Cynthia. Once he had the money, mastering it would just be a matter of time.

After much deliberation, Natsume settled on two affordable and practical manuals:

[Reflect] and [Light Screen].

These two moves perfectly increased a Pokémon's self-defense capabilities, reducing the risk of Eevee getting injured.

In wild battles, these two moves were practically god-tier, perfectly suited for Natsume-sensei, who was "too sneaky to go outside."

Natsume sighed in relief. "Now I don't have to worry about getting hate mail from my followers."

Of course, there was a deeper reason for choosing these two moves.

It was because Haunter could understand them, meaning Natsume wouldn't have to do the training himself!

"I'm such a training genius!" Natsume muttered.

"With this, both Pokémon will master wall-type moves..."

Natsume smacked his forehead. "You really outdid yourself, Natsume-sensei!"

That night, back in Tokyo.

Natsume and Takashi went to the Battle Department to pick up two Move manuals.

Then Natsume printed out the training methods for [Reflect] and [Light Screen] and handed them to Haunter with a serious expression.

"Haunter? Σ(っ°Д°;)っ"

Haunter was also stunned, hurriedly accepting the new textbook as Natsume spoke solemnly:

"As the big brother, you should lead by example."

"These two moves were hard-earned for you. Don't let me down!"

Haunter was momentarily stunned, tears welling up in its eyes.

"Haunter! ?(;′Д`?)"

Trainer went through so much hardship to become a Trainer...

I must train hard and master these two moves as soon as possible!

The night was deep.

While preparing dinner for the two little ones, Natsume decided to do his two ten-pulls.

[Rare, rare, rare...]

Natsume had a headache, sighing as usual. "Always the unlucky one."

[Wow! Legendary!]

Natsume was surprised. "Huh? I actually got an orange in twenty pulls?"

[Obtained Items: Pecha Berry 4, Oran Berry 5, Moomoo Milk 4, Poké Ball 3, Hyper Potion 2, Golden Razz Berry 1]

The so-called "golden legendary" was this [Golden Razz Berry].

[Golden Razz Berry: When given to a Pokémon, it becomes much easier to catch. (Poké Ball, GO!)]

Natsume also had some recollection of this Razz Berry with a faint golden glow.

In the catching-focused games "Let's Go, Pikachu!/Let's Go, Eevee!", Golden Razz Berry increased the probability of a successful catch.

For a "Capturer" like Crystal, this should be a fairly common Berry.

Natsume rubbed his chin, muttering:

"Once I get a few more, I can make a new Pokéblock."

By now, almost all the Berries unlocked in the System Shop had been turned into Pokéblocks by Natsume.

Aside from the basic Berries, they included:

[Ganlon Berry Block - Bitter] for boosting defense, [Petaya Berry Block - Spicy] for boosting Special Attack, and [Oran Berry Block - Sweet and Sour] for boosting Speed.

Natsume personally preferred Pecha Berry Blocks because they were the sweetest...

Dinner was Berry salad and Moomoo Milk, with Eevee's drink being orange juice.

Eevee stood on the table, wagging its tail obediently.

When it noticed Natsume staring at it, it immediately turned its head away, its tail stopping mid-wag. "Eevee!"

On the other side, Haunter held a textbook in its hands, its long red tongue licking the rows of text as it diligently took notes.

Even though it had grown hands... this habit was probably here to stay.

"Haunter! (*⊙~⊙)"

The peaceful dinner time passed in the blink of an eye.

Coach Takashi called. "Natsume, you can come to the Pokémon Day Care tomorrow to pick a Pokémon!"

"Don't thank me too much, hahaha, it's only right!"

Natsume sighed helplessly.

But now that things had come to this, Natsume felt a surge of determination.

"Alright, tomorrow I'm definitely picking a slacker!"

Eevee and Haunter exchanged a glance, nodding in unison.

"Haunter?" (Training tonight?)

"Eevee!" (Let's go!)
