Chapter 88 - Chapter 088: A Series of Miracles

On a bright and sunny morning, Natsume opened his eyes to find Cynthia brushing her dazzling golden hair. The smooth, layered locks cascaded down to her waist, each strand rippling like a gentle wave. Dressed in her familiar black trench coat, Cynthia quietly combed her hair, offering Natsume a soft smile. Her deep gray eyes sparkled with a deer-like joy.

"Spending the whole day out?" Natsume asked with a grin.

"Not entirely out of the question," Cynthia replied with a gentle smile.

With Eevee perched on his shoulder, Haunter eagerly pushed open the door, donning a pair of sunglasses and flashing a proud grin.

Downstairs, a sleek black luxury car assigned by the Tokyo Association waited quietly.

President Shoya had even called Natsume the night before, though he had been somewhat evasive, simply encouraging Natsume to enjoy the day's itinerary.

Natsume assumed it was just a perk of being associated with the Sinnoh Champion, unaware that it was part of a carefully orchestrated plan to set the stage for a date.

The white-gloved driver was silent and professional. In the plush back seat, Cynthia gazed out at the Tokyo scenery.

"Where's our first stop?" she asked.

"The aquarium," Natsume replied, checking his mobile phone. "There's a Spheal performance today."

Perhaps due to a private booking, the aquarium was sparsely populated. Only a little girl selling flowers, with a Hoppip on her head and a bouquet of dewy flowers in her hands, stood nearby.

"Mister, buy a flower for the pretty lady," the girl said with a sweet smile.

"I'll take them all," Natsume said, already owing five million Pokémon Coins, so a few more didn't matter.

Taking the flowers from the surprised girl, Natsume handed them to Cynthia, who blinked in mild surprise.

"It's fine, I left one for Eevee too," Natsume said, pulling out a small cluster of flowers to tease Eevee on his shoulder. The little one turned red and swallowed a petal whole.

A red light flickered, and Lucario emerged from its Poké Ball. It took the flowers from Cynthia, gave Natsume a cold glance, and retreated back into the ball.

The aquarium was quiet.

A blue underwater tunnel stretched before them, with Magikarp and Goldeen swimming behind the glass, their scales reflecting shimmering patterns.

"Haunter!"

Haunter pressed its face against the glass, making faces at a beautifully patterned Seaking, which swam away with a flick of its tail, leaving Haunter looking dejected.

Cynthia tucked a strand of golden hair behind her ear, a soft smile on her face as she walked side by side with Natsume through the long tunnel.

The azure tunnel gave the feeling of being in another world, just the two of them.

A Gyarados swam past, its massive form casting a shadow for three seconds as it blocked the light.

During the performance, Dewgong and Spheal received rounds of applause, and Natsume and Cynthia clapped along.

For a moment, Natsume almost forgot that the girl beside him was the Sinnoh League Champion, seeing her instead as just a beautiful, ordinary girl.

He turned to look at Cynthia, their eyes meeting for a second. In her deep gray eyes, he saw a hint of shyness.

It was Natsume who blushed this time. "There's still the next stop," he said.

Lunch was at a luxurious restaurant recommended by the driver. They were the only customers, and the chef from Kalos personally explained the craftsmanship behind each dish.

After the chef left, Cynthia set down her fork and said earnestly, "It's not as good as your cooking."

"I think so too," Natsume sighed, nodding in agreement.

This world didn't have Disneyland; instead, there was a similar theme park called "Electrode Land."

Natsume stared at the giant Electrode with its sinister grin, feeling a bit uneasy.

Art is explosion!

"Roller coaster?" Cynthia's eyes lit up.

Natsume's face paled slightly, but Eevee and Haunter looked eager to try.

Garchomp, despite being able to fly, turned pale when strapped into the roller coaster.

Lucario, too, stiffened, looking visibly nervous.

The wind rushed past as the roller coaster sped along. Garchomp screamed in the front row, while Lucario stayed silent, its face pale.

Cynthia's golden hair fluttered in the wind, her laughter ringing out, while Haunter's sinister grin widened.

By the end of the ride, Natsume felt dizzy, while Cynthia's cheeks were flushed.

"One more time?" she asked.

"Let's... try something else," Natsume said, sweating for Garchomp and Lucario.

The drifting ride was more relaxed. Natsume waved at a PoliwhirlResponsible for water spraying, who waved back before spraying Natsume with a Water Gun.

The Ferris wheel was the final attraction.

From the top, they could see most of Tokyo. In the quiet, narrow space, Cynthia's breathing was clearly audible.

"I think it's magical," Cynthia said suddenly, smiling.

She paused, as if considering her words, then gazed out at the rising scenery outside the window, a slight smile on her lips.

"I mean... the way people meet is magical."

"Yeah," Natsume nodded.

"Every encounter between lives is bound to create something. It's true for people, and even more so for people and Pokémon..."

Cynthia was momentarily stunned.

She agreed wholeheartedly; it was exactly what she had been thinking.

"Yes," Cynthia smiled softly. "In many ways, we're similar."

"Though, I don't want to be a Trainer," Natsume said firmly.

"Like you said... encounters between people and Pokémon create something."

Cynthia glanced at Eevee in Natsume's arms and smiled.

"Sometimes, people's fates aren't entirely in their own hands."

Natsume rubbed his forehead and chuckled. "I'm just happy to take care of these two!"

Outside the window, the scenery continued to rise as the Ferris wheel reached its peak. The world grew quiet.

For a moment, Natsume and Cynthia's eyes met, and neither spoke.

Then, Haunter let out a burp.

"Haunter (ˉ﹃ˉ)" The lunch was pretty good, after all!

It might not have been a perfect date.

But Natsume hadn't expected it to be anything grand.

The Sinnoh Champion, one of the world's top-tier Trainers, had spent a delightful and unforgettable day with him.

Now that he thought about it, it felt like a series of miracles.

Thanks to the Tokyo Association's arrangements, the day had gone smoothly without any unexpected interruptions.

The final stop was Cynthia's suggestion: Diantha's latest movie, "Kirlia's Morning."

The title was unremarkable, and the plot was equally so, though Diantha did bear a slight resemblance to Audrey Hepburn.

Natsume nodded thoughtfully.

After all, she was designed with Audrey Hepburn as the inspiration!

"Writing a few scripts doesn't seem too hard..." Natsume muttered to himself.

By the time the day ended, it was nearly 8 PM.

Cynthia had to catch a flight, so Natsume accompanied her to the airport.

The night was gentle, the evening breeze brushing past them on the overpass, Cynthia's black trench coat swaying in the wind.

Inside the Tokyo Association, President Shoya suddenly spoke into his walkie-talkie:

"Is the Bund ready? I'll count down, and we'll set off the fireworks together!"

"Three, two, one!"

Just as Natsume was about to say something, his vision was suddenly filled with dazzling fireworks.

The grand display lit up the sky, drawing beautiful patterns like shooting stars, the flames sparkling in the night.

Cynthia's eyes sparkled too, her golden hair tinged with the glow of the fireworks.

"It's beautiful..." she whispered.

Natsume smiled, looking at her delicate profile. "Yes, it is."

Cynthia tucked a strand of golden hair behind her ear and turned to Natsume with a smile.

"If you ever come to Sinnoh, I'll invite you to a fireworks festival."

For a girl to invite a guy to a fireworks festival was already quite something.

After all, it was the most beautiful display before summer faded away.

Natsume nodded gently. "I will."

Time flowed quietly as Cynthia gazed up at the fireworks, her golden hair swaying in the gentle breeze, her face alternating between light and shadow.

Natsume etched the scene into his memory, then escorted Cynthia to the airport. Haunter waved tearfully.

"Haunter!?(;′Д`?)"

Natsume returned home.

When he woke up, it was already the next morning, the day after Cynthia had left.
