In 1886, London, England, evolved into the steam-powered age with the help of magic and technology powered by steam. But in this city, creatures known as demons love to destroy what man has built and eat the innocent who get in their way. But a family specializes in hunting this dark creature of the night. They are known as the Frye family, a well-known family throughout England and Europe. The Frye family rose to power in the dark age when demons were at their worst. However, this part of their family only survived two remaining members of this once-great family: a boy and a girl.
The girl has decided to move away from her home and marry a man who was a family friend. She lives a happy life in Paris, France. As for the boy, he would remain in London, become the next head of the Frye Family, and run their business through the Frye Organization. A governing body for all companies that their ancestors created. But this is when the boy's story begins on a night like when a mysterious stranger or creature would break into his home…
It was night, and everything was peaceful; inside the Frye Manor, a young man, or what he appeared to be this young man, was a cyborg created by his master and served as the Frye Family's head butler, or maybe it only butler. Jay was an average-sized man on the short end, as in this body. He had black hair and light-colored skin, which looked like real skin created by his master. His eyes were a dark green color. He wore what was attire for a butler for the Frye Family. He was pushing a cart with a dinner tray full of food. This man or cyborg's name was Jay Jayson, and he was the Frye head butler. He heads to the manor wall and starts looking for something on it until he presses a button, opening it up to a secret door to a secret lab. Jay would enter this opening and head inside this room hidden in the wall.
Jay enters the secret lab, where the walls are made of pipes and gears that spin around like moving with steam coming from the walls and pipes. He would see a young man in the room where he sees a young man working on a project with robotic parts on the desk. This young man is the head of the Frye Family, Ludwig James Frye. He was an average-sized man. He had messy black hair, light-colored skin, and brown colored eyes. He wore a white dress shirt with a few oil stains. He wore black trousers and black dress shoes. He seemed to barely notice Jay entered this room as he was so into his work. But he would see him when he spoke, "Sir? I have brought tonight's meal."
"Ah, Jay. Just place it on the table over there, my friend."
Jay does what Ludwig commands, but before he places the tray on the table, he sees Ludwig's lunch, which is still there and not touched by him at all. He even considers a couple of flies on it that make it their lunch. Jay is upset with it and turns around and looks at Ludwig.
"So, was lunch not good for you today?" Jay inquired as he glared at him.
Ludwig would sit straight up, and a cold sweat started to form as he felt Jay's icy gaze on him. He knew what was about to happen as he was about to get lectured by him. He thought, Ah, fuck. I forgot to eat earlier, and he was about to give me an earful.
"Well, sir? I see your lunch is still here, and these flies have liked it, sir.'
"You know I do feel a bit hungry now as it's time to eat one of your delicious meals," Ludwig is trying to find a way out of an earful.
Jay watched as he got up, and his glare was still on him. He knew what Ludwig was doing, but this would not save him from his wraith. "Sorry, sir. But I was not born yesterday. And nothing will save you from my wraith."
Ludwig rolled his eyes, knowing his attempt had failed. He walked over to the table and got ready to eat, and Jay was about to lecture him as he ate his dinner.
"Now, I should not tell you how important it is for you to eat, but you need to eat three times a day, especially on the night you have to hunt demons and don't just sit there and ignore me," Jay lectured him. I know you tend to sit there and not listen."
"No, sir, I am fully listening to you."
"I wonder how your late mother would feel that her son still needs to be babysitting all day."
"Well, when I was young lad, she would beat me on the ass with a wooden spoon if me and my sister would fight each other. She was a strict woman, but she did it out of love. It was rough raising two children without a father and only a few servants after my grandfather died."
Ludwig's father and former head, James Frye, was one of the best demon hunters to come out in the last century, but one day, he mysteriously disappeared when he was a young boy and was never seen again. Ludwig thought maybe a demon came and ate him alive or his remains. Ludwig would also lose his mother at the age of eight, and he and his sister would be raised with relatives and former demon hunters that James trusted. When Ludwig became the head, as most of the old servants left, he only pursued other work available to them.
"Speaking of which, sir, any word on Lady Rebecca?" asked Jay.
Rebecca, Ludwig's younger sister, moved to France to be with her husband, a noble who was a childhood friend, and Ludwig.
"Rebecca, in her last letter, was just commenting how she was enjoying the married life and how I should find someone too," Ludwig explained in his last letter from his sister.
"At least your only family is looking out for you, my lord. Maybe you should take her advice and find someone who will make you happy—"
Jay would be interrupted by an alarm when they heard it go off, as it told them that someone had broken into the manor.
Ah, thank the maker. I did not want to hear him repeat what my sister said in her letter.
Ludwig walked over to a terminal in the room where he could see the cameras' feeding within the manor.
They would look on the monitor and see a bat flying through the halls from an open or broken window.
"Ah, just a flying rat that flew into the manor. Going to be a pain in the ass to get out of the place," Ludwig commented.
"I feel we should keep watching. I have a strange feeling about our little guest here, sir," Jay feels that this bat is something different.
They would see the bat land on the ground and begin to morph into a young man. He had long, messy black hair. His skin was light, almost pale white. He had crimson-colored eyes, and when his mouth opened, they saw two fangs. He wore a long red coat with a white shirt underneath it. He wore black trousers with knee-high brown boots. He seemed to be carrying a substantial black claymore on his back. He begins to walk around the halls, looking for something.
"What the devil is that creature?" Jay questioned.
"By the looks of it, a Vampire, but it a rare sighting indeed, my friend," Ludwig commented.
"A Vampire? Is that some demon, sir?"
"No, they are more considered creatures as demons come from another world while this man is from our world. They were a big problem in old times but have become rare."
"So, what should we do?"
Ludwig gets up from the terminal and heads to the wall, where a long black coat and a short sword hang. He puts on the coat, straps the sword to his belt, and says, "I guess I have to go give him a good Frye greeting, it seems. You stay here and provide backup when I am in trouble."
"Very well, sir, I will do what you tell me."
"Good, I should be back before my nightly tea before bed," Ludwig said with a grin.
He would take off and head for where the Vampire was last seen, but what awaits him is unknown.
