"If that's true," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath, "then why would they want me now?"
Angel voiced her thoughts aloud, her eyes narrowing in suspicion as she studied Arthur.
Arthur, in response, raised a thoughtful hand to his chin, slowly caressing it as he nodded slightly, acknowledging her words.
His gaze flickered with something unreadable, a shadow of contemplation passing over his features.
"I don't know," he finally responded, his voice laced with a cryptic edge. Then, almost out of nowhere, he let out a short, sharp outburst. "You should probably ask them yourself!"
The sudden rise in his tone sent a cold shiver down Angel's spine.
Her heartbeat quickened, but before she could press further, Arthur's lips curled into a mischievous smile.
