Chapter 98 - Church of Chrunus

Ever since Cedric had received the letter containing the war declaration of Iguva, he had been in a bad mood.

Aurelia had been afraid and panicked as she brought him the letter, feelings surprising her lust that night.

She hadn't even tried pouncing on him as he consoled her and reassured her that demons could never hope to step foot into Valar with their legions.

However, despite them being disgusting and impure, they couldn't be underestimated.

They had given them 3 months to make sure the demons would be properly exterminated, a grave mistake on their part.

'I need to summon more Angels...' Cedric grumbled as he made his way towards the official Church of Chrunus.

Fortunately, the Angels, led by Ariel hadn't disappointed him; they had performed admirably in exterminating the nests. Ariel was truly a good leader, as it seemed.

Despite her childish demeanour, she was able to lead a squad of greater angels to fulfil God's Duty.

'I guess she is Dominion... it is sinful for me to even think she wasn't worthy. I must pray...' He had to pray for forgiveness.

He had trusted each angel with his life, even when Sophia asked his permission to grant salvation to Demons he had accepted it.

Cedric knew that Fallen could be cleansed, as was proven by Two Fallen champions.

However, he couldn't see how a demon could ever bathe in God's Light.

Sophia was perhaps too kind and thus wrong in saving the demons and yet...

'Angels are Messengers of God. They surely know even better than me who can be saved.' He smiled.

Of course, he was merely a human, after all. The summons he had gotten from God were much closer to God than even himself; as such, he hadn't felt bad trusting any of their plans.

No, Sophia was completely right. God was all-forgiving; perhaps he would forgive demons that truly embraced him no matter how unlikely.

And yet he had a hard time believing they would turn; after all, they were betrayers, they were enemies of God and thus deserving of hell.

Perhaps with the guidance of a true Angel like Sophia, some small number of them could be brought back into the fold.

Sophia promised to notify him about any development, and perhaps if she truly was right, he would inspect those demons with God's Eye.

If they truly became Christians, they wouldn't be demons at all.

They would merely be servants of God with a different appearance than humanity.

With a step, he pushed the thoughts out of his head.

A mission from God right now was to extinguish the church of Chrunus.

It was another monumental task, but to expel a pagan god from future Christian Kingdom was one of the holiest missions a warrior of God may do.

He had no rights to complain; he had 3 months to prepare this kingdom for war against Demons, and the first step would be eradicating the influence of Chrunus.

The unfortunate beggars he saved had started holding Sermons led by Aurelia, who was very much happy to hold them every night.

'In a very short time, she went from infidel to a devoted believer...' Cedric couldn't stop beating himself up for dismissing her first time he had met her.

In a way, Aurelia was a better Christian than himself; he had judged people, and yet the person her judged was now the first-ever Christian in a world ruled by demons and false gods.

Demons would regret ever daring stand against God, he would exterminate them all. None that betray God may be left.

Cedric approached a large building, it was as ornate as the palace itself.

It resembled cathedrals of Europe, and yet it was not devoted to Christ, but instead false gods.

It would not stand.

It was a mockery of all that was Holy.

However, right now, he was not here to destroy the building; no, he was here to merely investigate and see the tricked infidels.

A cathedral could always belong to followers of Christ, a building itself could be consecrated and serve as one true church.

What was church but a place where one would go to get close to God?

It did not matter what, why or who built the building; all that mattered is was who its occupants were.

And right now, occupants in the most major church of the kingdom were followers of Chrunus.

Infidels of the highest order as their Apostle had dared kill an Angel.

Cedric approached the ornate doors of the cathedral before pushing them open.

While the outside resembled a Christian cathedral, the inside was completely different.

The smell of iron filled the air. Straight ahead against the wall was a cold stone altar, it was covered in blood and chains.

'Sacrifical altar... Pagans...' Cedric's anger grew each moment he spent in this place.

The church was filled with pagans, they looked at him with confusion.

The chants stopped, and only occasional cough reverberated through the cathedral.

Cedric walked past them all, ignoring them. he approached the altar.

If he was to find a way to reach Chrunus himself, it would be through his so-called church.

He felt guards of the cathedral approach, and yet it did not matter. Divine Charm stunned them in place.

It was not the time to send them to God.

With a sigh Cedric turned towards the worshippers of Chrunus and exclaimed.

"You worship a false god! Soon, one true God shall make himself known. I grant you this chance to correct your belief... Before it's too late." His final words were deliberately heavy, threatening to crush those who heard them.

He did not expect these fools to believe him, but it was his job to warn them.

Until then Cedric wished to hunt for a way to reach Chrunus.

The moment he found a lead, the false god would be cast down to hell for his crimes.

With final parting words, he exited the cathedral. his goal of finding a connection to Chrunus wasn't fulfilled; however, once his church had been purged, he would be sure to act.

'Chrunus... Your crimes haven't been forgiven. Hide, but God's Justice will find you. Amen.'
