Mia Collins rested her delicate shoulder against the floor-to-ceiling window, her eyes fixed on the darkening sky, dull with melancholy. Though William Franklin kept his head down, diligently handling business matters, he couldn't help but notice her unusual mood today.
Suddenly, he broke the silence. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
At the sound of his gentle voice, Mia stirred but did not turn to look at him. "Nothing at all. You're working—I don't want to interrupt."
"That's not like you…" he pressed.
"Is that so?" Mia offered a soft laugh. "Tell me then—in your eyes, what kind of person am I?"
"Elegant, beautiful, well-read, and sensible," William replied in a calm, mellifluous tone without lifting his eyes. His voice always carried a warm, soothing quality—even though, in time, one might see it as little more than an illusion. Yet, one couldn't deny that his tone was filled with allure and magnetism.
