Summer's POV
It had been days. Days of silence. No calls, no messages, no unexpected visits—nothing.
Maxwell hadn't made a move, not towards Aiden, not towards Mariah, and not towards me.
And that was the worst part.
The waiting. The knowing something was coming but having no idea when.
I hated it.
It made my skin crawl, made me feel like I was constantly looking over my shoulder, expecting him to strike when we least expected it. But he didn't. It was almost like he was toying with us, letting us sit in this unbearable silence until it drove us insane.
I didn't want to leave the house. If something was going to happen, I wanted to be where I felt safest, where I had control. But, of course, life didn't work like that.
I had an event to attend.
A fan signing.
One I couldn't back out of without stirring up unnecessary questions.
