Even so, the level-ups were significant.
After level 30, the experience required for each level-up became exponentially greater. Normally, it would take days of grinding just to gain a single level. Yet, in a single battle, Satoshi's Pokémon had surged forward multiple levels—something he had never seen in either his past or present life.
Regardless, Satoshi was more than satisfied with the battle's outcome. More importantly, now that he had regained his footing, it was time to leave.
"You… actually defeated Rhydon?"
The Rocket grunts were frozen in disbelief, while Koga narrowed his eyes, his expression unreadable. Though he was also shocked by Satoshi's strategic combat skills, he remained composed.
"Your battle instincts are impressive. There's no doubt you'll become a formidable Trainer one day… but right now, you're still too weak. You never should have provoked Team Rocket."
A dangerous glint flashed in Koga's eyes as he slowly reached for his belt.
Satoshi immediately recognized the intent. Murderous intent.
"He plans to eliminate me here before I can grow into a threat."
The Rocket Team wouldn't let a potential danger slip through their fingers. The only way to ensure that Satoshi wouldn't become a future problem was to deal with him now.
Satoshi wasn't about to stick around for that.
"Charmeleon, [Flamethrower]! Frogadier, [Hydro Pump]!"
Before Koga could release his main Pokémon, Satoshi acted first.
"What?! He's attacking us directly?!"
Koga's instincts kicked in. "Everyone, retreat!"
The Rocket grunts, caught off guard, hastily backed away, assuming that Satoshi had launched a full-scale attack.
But that was exactly what Satoshi wanted.
As soon as they stepped back, Satoshi smirked. "You fell for it."
In one swift motion, he lifted Misty onto his back, while Grovyle carried Staryu. "Let's get out of here!"
Before the Rockets could react, Charmeleon and Frogadier unleashed not attacks, but [Smokescreen], further obscuring the already dimly lit cave.
"Damn it, he's escaping!"
Koga growled in frustration. He knew he had been tricked.
"Everyone, don't be afraid! He's trying to run—chase him—"
BOOM!
A sudden tremor shook the cave, followed by the unmistakable sound of rocks crashing down.
Koga's words were cut off as large boulders fell from the ceiling, blocking the tunnel where Satoshi had just escaped.
"What the—?! This was planned from the start?!"
None of the Rocket grunts dared to move, wary of triggering another collapse.
Koga clenched his fists. "That kid anticipated our every move…"
Realizing that they couldn't pursue Satoshi immediately, Koga issued new orders.
"Everyone, release your Pokémon! Clear this Smokescreen and break through the rocks— we can't let him escape!"
The grunts quickly obeyed, summoning their Pokémon to disperse the smoke and clear the blockage.
As the Smokescreen faded and the dust settled, Koga stood before the rockslide that now blocked their path. His expression darkened.
"This kid… his strategy was flawless. Every move was calculated. If that girl hadn't rushed in like an idiot, he might never have revealed his full potential."
He took a deep breath before coming to a decision.
"This Satoshi… he's too dangerous. If he keeps growing at this pace, he'll be a serious problem for Team Rocket in the future."
Koga turned to his subordinates, his tone firm.
"We need to report this to the boss. Satoshi cannot be ignored."
After successfully sealing off the cave, Satoshi sprinted towards the exit, Misty still unconscious on his back.
"Grovyle, Staryu okay?"
Grovyle nodded, adjusting Staryu's weight as they ran.
Charmeleon and Frogadier kept close, guarding Satoshi's flanks. Meanwhile, Riolu, with its heightened senses, scouted ahead using wave guidance, ensuring they didn't run into any unexpected dangers.
"Satoshi! I found the exit!" Riolu's voice rang in his mind.
Satoshi exhaled in relief. "Good job. Lead the way."
With Riolu guiding them, they navigated through the twists and turns of the cave with ease.
Just twenty minutes after sealing off the passage, they finally emerged from the cave's mouth.
Cerulean City was visible in the distance.
A soft chime rang in Satoshi's mind.
Ding! You have completed the hidden task: 'Misty's Help.'
Satoshi slowed his pace, taking in the sight of the city ahead.
"We made it."
