"Let's go home. Back to our cottage."
Lanling had wished for those words countless times, but he had always dampened his hope, thinking the best outcome would be Haruki treating him like any other stranger.
Haruki gently wiped the tears from Lanling's face, all the while directing the wind to encase them. His gaze locked with Lanling's, his desire to hold his beloved no less than Lanling's own.
When the spherical wind suddenly dissipated, Lanling was stunned to find they were standing right in front of their cottage.
"Teleport?"
Haruki chuckled. "Not quite. We just traveled really fast."
"I-I don't understand. Haruki, you—"
Lanling's voice was cut off as he watched Haruki's black horns shrink into small protrusions, his silver draconic eyes flickering before shifting to their usual grey, and the large wings on his back vanishing into a vortex.
Panic surged in Lanling's heart. He clutched Haruki's lapels like a drowning man.
"H-Haruki, ah—!"
