Ever stared at her phone for a moment before taking a deep breath and dialing Allesandro's number. She knew she had to call him, but it felt like a challenge having to rely on him for something that should have been a shared responsibility.
The phone rang once, twice, and then he answered.
Allesandro: "Ever?" His voice was still smooth, but there was something guarded in his tone.
Ever: "I just wanted to remind you about the check-up. Eandro's appointment is tomorrow. I thought maybe you'd want to come along?" She said it carefully, watching the words leave her mouth, hoping he wouldn't brush it off again.
There was a pause on the other end, and she could almost hear him considering it. When he finally spoke, it wasn't the response she'd been hoping for.
Allesandro: "Is it really okay for me to come, Ever? I know he's my son, but I think you and Dr. Carter will be fine without me. After all, he's the best at what he does, right?"
