Ever took a deep breath, steadying herself, before delivering the words that would shatter them both.
"Yes, I want to be with Nathaniel Carter."
Allesandro stilled. His entire body tensed, as if the world had suddenly tilted off its axis.
"Do you know why?" she continued, her voice softer now, but laced with an undeniable sadness. "For the past eight years, he still loved me." She sighed, running a hand through her hair before meeting his gaze. "You must've done your homework, Allesandro. He's my high school lover. He never stopped caring about me."
The silence between them stretched, thick and suffocating.
Then, suddenly—CRACK.
His fist collided with the wall beside him, the impact so violent that the room seemed to tremble with his rage. A long, ragged breath left his lips, and when he turned back to her—he was crying.
For the first time in his life, he didn't stop his tears.
Ever felt her heart constrict, but instead of comforting him, she let out a cold, bitter laugh.
