Alice and Elisabeth stood before their parents, watching as Mary and Tarrant sat on the edge of their bed.
"So, what did you two want to talk about? You've been standing there like statues for five minutes," Mary said skeptically. She kept glancing at Elisabeth, unable to shake the feeling that her own appearance was lacking in comparison.
"Um… Mom… Dad… I don't know how to say this," Alice sighed. Elisabeth opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Tarrant felt a wave of nerves grip him as he bounced his leg in anticipation. "I knew it! You two are pregnant," he blurted out.
Two simultaneous fists struck his head.
"No, Dad!" Alice yelled.
"You idiot!" Elisabeth snapped in anger.
Tarrant rubbed his head, wincing. "If that's not it, then why are you two so serious?" he grumbled.
"Are you hiding a big secret from us?" Mary asked, her curiosity piqued.
Alice and Elisabeth exchanged glances. "Something like that," Elisabeth admitted.
