Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 But Wild Monsters Are More Cost-Effective

"You have extracted the gene entry: Infinite Multiplication."

"Infinite Multiplication: It allows organisms to quickly multiply and grow by consuming a certain amount of energy."

Although the first two genes were not bad, this superpower was not something that could only be extracted once. As long as she was given time to recover her magic power, she would be able to extract all of them eventually.

*Anyway, this thing wasn't going to run away from the panel.*

Bai Yi chose to extract this gene first because she valued its potential.

If it could be granted to crops, it would mean a super yield of food!

Especially since she already had rice seeds in hand.

*Just thinking about it excited her!*

But Bai Yi still cautiously decided to give it a try first.

She randomly clicked on a weed on the ground and attempted to use the Genetic Fusion skill on it; the panel immediately popped up a prompt.

"The current gene is well-matched with the target. Gene fusion requires consuming 200 points of magic power, but the current magic is insufficient."

The reproduction of the Insect Nest would take a while, so Bai Yi took the opportunity to try it on all the creatures in her territory.

Of these, Bai Yi had hoped the most for the Bloodthirsty Beetle, but the compatibility wasn't as high as she had imagined; it required a whopping 290 points of magic power to fuse.

On the contrary, the giant banyan and the surrounding Mutated banyan trees included in her territory surprised Bai Yi. Their compatibility was very good, needing only 200 points of magic power to fuse.

However, because the giant banyan was a Second Tier, Bai Yi couldn't use it for now, but there was no such restriction on the ordinary Mutated banyan trees.

Bai Yi even tried it on the two farm women once, concluding that the gene was almost always well-matched with plants, but just average when it came to animals and insects.

Especially when applied to humans, the magic power consumption shot up to 1000 without delay.

But what delighted Bai Yi the most were those rice grains.

They were indeed judged by her superpower to be plant seeds and could undergo genetic fusion!

Moreover, it had a high compatibility with the Infinite Multiplication entry!

However, Bai Yi was not in a hurry to start farming so soon. Even the weeds in the base hadn't been cleared yet, and there was no rush.

So Bai Yi planned to store some magic power for the time being, extract all the genes from the Infinite Moss, and then try gene fusion at night.

Once the rice was fused, she could officially start farming tomorrow!

After this hassle, the beetles in the Insect Nest had all finished reproducing and crawled out, and two sturdy farm women holding stone hoes walked out of the slanted roof matchbox.

Watching the 20 pitch-black beetles crawling on the ground in front of her, and the two farm women standing like door gods on either side, Bai Yi felt full of confidence.

*Even if she encountered the crocodile and the Big Cat today, Bai Yi was confident of victory!*

"Let's go!"

...

"Ah, this... is this what they call a wild monster?"

Bai Yi, with two bodyguards and 20 beetles, was spirited, intending to take down her first wild monster as a lord. It symbolized the first step in her path to developing and growing stronger!

Then she encountered this thing in front of her—

A wild wolf, about the same size as the ones Bai Yi had seen at the zoo.

As if afraid no one would know, it had a "Wild Wolf lv.5" name floating above its head, and there was a small, exquisite wooden treasure box under the tree behind it.

No matter from which angle, this was a very ordinary wild monster...

*No way!*

*This wasn't a real game!*

*How could there be such a thing!*

*It really was a wild wolf guarding a treasure box!*

"Wild Wolf"

Life Value: 200/200

Talent: None

Skill:

Bite: Vigorously bites the target, causing 20 points of damage to the target.

"This is a wild monster, no doubt about it. Hero, hurry and defeat it to obtain the treasure box it guards!"

Bai Yi was truly amazed by this thing for a moment.

But she knew she had to fight it.

Bai Yi furrowed her brows and hid behind the two bodyguards. The beetles beside her received Bai Yi's command and flew into the air like cannonballs.

Skill—Impact!

As soon as the beetles entered the wild wolf's territory, it was as if it had come to life. Its eyes suddenly became spirited; even facing 20 beetles charging at it, it remained fearless.

Unfortunately, this couldn't help it escape disaster.

The wild wolf turned its body sideways, swatted one of the beetle "cannonballs" aside with a paw, but the next beetle had already arrived, aiming right at the wolf's head.

-30

A giant red number floated above the wolf's head. Bai Yi felt she could almost hear the dull sound of armor colliding with bone.

With one beetle crashing in after another, the wolf's 200 blood volume evaporated in an instant.

"A perfect victory! You have gained 10 experience points. You have obtained a wooden treasure box*1."

"This wild monster was too easy. So this is the so-called random wild monster and resource..."

Although she complained, Bai Yi understood that if she had come out alone, she'd be lucky just to escape from the wolf's jaws.

It was all thanks to her lovely Bloodthirsty Beetles!

The wild wolf didn't leave Bai Yi with any resources. After death, it dissipated into points of light on the spot.

But no matter what, this was her first proper hunt. Bai Yi still walked over, eagerly opening the treasure box she had obtained.

Yet Bai Yi didn't expect that not only was the wild wolf a facade, but the treasure box actually turned out to be one too.

She picked up the treasure box, about the size of a beetle, and as soon as she intended to open it, its lid lifted by itself.

After a blinding white light, when Bai Yi came back to her senses, the treasure box had disappeared, leaving only the panel prompt.

"You have opened the wooden treasure box. You have obtained White Bread*5, Drinking Water*5."

"?"

*Good Lord, it was just a special effect?*

The materials from the treasure box were conveniently stored directly in the panel's warehouse, though the quantity was rather underwhelming.

But Bai Yi thought about it again. This was just a low-level wild monster, so the reward being minimal made sense.

"Therefore, these game-generated wild monsters do not provide corpses, but they are also significantly weaker than the native mutant creatures of this world. Their rewards are modest but consist mostly of food and water, which are basic resources.

*Heh, those trying to purchase water and food probably haven't even ventured out of their territory.*"

Bai Yi extracted a unit of water from the panel. It looked just like a bottled water bottle back home, a plastic bottle without a label, containing about half a liter.

Since waking up in this world, she hadn't drunk a drop of water. Although she had been physically active, she was now parched.

She unscrewed the bottle cap and drank half of it, solving her dry throat problem. Bai Yi felt rejuvenated!

If these refreshed wild monsters were all this simple, *wouldn't this so-called adaptation period just be a rewarding period?*

*Even someone like Bai Yi, who preferred staying at home, felt a stir of excitement.*

*It wasn't that she was afraid to tackle mutant creatures; it was just that fighting wild monsters was more cost-effective!*

"I've decided—today, I'm going to be a nuisance to the wild monsters!"

...

"Fungus Blanket of the Insect Clan: Although it appeared the least conspicuous in the insect disaster, it was actually the strongest weapon of the Insect Clan. Wherever it passed, not a blade of grass grew, turning everything into a green ocean, but the land reclaimed from the Fungus Blanket's hands always became incredibly fertile..."
