Because designers of such brands are especially protective of their intellectual property. Once they find counterfeits, they will invariably pursue the matter to the end, and by then, that group would likely be out of business.
It wasn't worth destroying one's career over a single piece of clothing.
Moreover, if a dress that others couldn't purchase despite heavy spending and queuing was available in a small personal shopper's group, who would believe that? Wouldn't that just be a clear indication that the group was selling counterfeits?
While anyone with a bit of sense would realize that something sold so cheaply couldn't be genuine, there were always quite a few fools in the world.
