"This matter is not your fault," said Zhong Niangyao softly.
Old Mrs. Zeng wiped her tears continually, shaking her head without speaking.
Ever since that incident, everyone around her, including her in-laws and husband, had been trying to persuade her that it wasn't her fault, that it had just been an accident. But she could not find peace in her heart. She felt it was herself who had caused her daughter's death. For all these years, she had suffered from constant inner torment.
"Did someone tell you that your daughter was seeking you out to take her life?" Zhong Niangyao continued, "That's why you harbored thoughts of death, isn't it?"
With her advanced age, and coupled with the mental anguish from her daughter's untimely demise, Old Mrs. Zeng had indeed lost her spirit and her health had started to decline after hearing that her daughter was claiming her life.
