Dove
"Dove!" I heard someone call out for me as I walked away from the bus stop. It was terribly hot today and humid which made my curly hair a little more frizzed than usual. I had decided to wear shorts today, with my trusty sneakers and a printed white shirt.
Orientation had started last week and today was the first full day of class. I was half excited for the art and design classes but less for the business side of things. Math in economic standards was the one thing I hated most. I didn't care about the economy. I just wanted to make fashion.
I turned wondering where the voice had come from until I saw dark brunette hair tied up in a top bun, bootleg leggings that made her hips look perfectly like an hourglass, a pink blouse and flip flops. Her face was scrubbed of makeup like how it always was but her smile was the greatest accessory of them all.
"Molly," I smiled and readily accepted her hug as she collided into me. I picked her up and spun her around as she laughed loudly. "Where have you been!"
"Oklahoma," she beamed, "I didn't plan to go back home this spring break but you know how Pa can be."
"Always convincing," I chuckled remembering the one time I had met her oil tycoon father.
"I missed you. You should have come with," she hooked her arm with mine as we walked to the art campus.
"I would have but I wanted to see Miami during break," I smiled. "It's only been six months anyway. Next break I'll come with you."
Molly had been one of my first American friends since I had arrived. Rodney and I knew each other well since his older brother was friends with Zahi. It made sense why we clicked when I arrived since we were the same age.
Stella was my first work friend. Molly was a Ray of sunshine and each and every single guy who was around her got captivated. She was a magnet and you'd be surprised how many people hated me thinking her and I were an item.
We weren't. Since, you know, I'm gay and everything.
"You won't believe who came to Oklahoma on the excuse of the rodeo," she rolled her eyes. I already knew the answer. "Benecio," she groaned. "He showed up with the largest amount of roses I have ever seen and it was embarrassing! Pa thought we were something and I just had to go along with it."
The saying 'speak of the devil' and he shall appear couldn't be more true. Whilst Molly ranted both our eyes were drawn to the BMW parked outside campus entry. The number of security surrounding it made us know who it was without even having to see him.
When we did, of course it was like a movie. He had on expensive sneakers, denim jeans and a cropped football jersey. His tattoos as usual were in full display and his wavy blonde hair with dark roots was brushed back to reveal his eyes. They were hazel but had more brown to them which made him look softer than what he exactly was.
Benecio Pereira was the biggest pain in the ass.
The entire world seemed to worship at his feet and he always took full advantage of it. When he came to campus a few months ago for a tour because there were rumors he was transferring it was chaos.
Even though I wasn't American, I knew that football was everything here which explained why he walked with a stick up his ass since his father was the world's richest man. After seeing Benedito Pereira, it made sense why everyone seemed to almost fear him.
He was leaning against his car, his arms folded across his chest and sunglasses covering his eyes. His lips were twisted as he looked down to the floor as if waiting for someone.
Probably Molly.
Her and I looked at each as if doubting if we should run away but just as the thought came across he looked up.
Why was he so devastatingly handsome?
He pushed himself off his fancy car then came casually strolling across.
"Dove," he greeted me with half a smile but I was sure he was glaring under those sunglasses.
"Benecio," I sighed and looked away from him, used to the procedure.
"Molly," unlike normal, he didn't smile like he was a lovesick puppy which seemed to throw her off. "I have come to realize that you're never going to love me and that's alright. I'm giving you space. Our time together was highly cherished and I thank you. I'm not going to feel bad that I scream my love for you on top of buildings and I'm not going to feel bad that you think I'm too nice. I hope another man treats you how you wish."
We were both lost for words as he gave her a curt nod, walked back to his car, climbed in without a backward glance then sped out of the parking with his convoy.
Molly looked stunted as she blinked multiple times then shivered. "Why do I feel like he just broke up with me?"
"I think he just did," I gaped. "It's what you wanted though. For him to leave you alone."
She blinked for a few seconds before nodding, "well yes. It's what I wanted but I- why do I feel confused?"
"Maybe because he's the only man on this campus who has eight pack abs?" I twisted my lips. "It's probably the car."
She nodded then let out a heavy exhale, "at least it's good to know I won't be stalked down anymore. I hope all the Pereira brothers aren't like that because that would be creepy."
I shrugged, "I didn't know he was a Pereira until last month."
She let out a giggle as she shook her head, "That's because you live under a rock and chose too. Everyone knows the Pereira brothers. They're the hottest thing to walk the earth."
"But Benecio-"
She waved her free hand dismissively, "I can't date a guy who stares at the mirror longer than me. He thinks he's the greatest thing to walk the earth."
