(Hours later)
BARK! BARK! BARK!
"Hahahaha easy Charles Im coming" Lincoln called out to the barking dog.
The white haired boy smiled as he grabbed the special leash Beatrix had gotten him so he could take the Cerberi pup out for a walk without the risk of him getting loose (As that would probably get him a fine according to the city law about owning a Cerberi) He whistled to the puppy, "C'mon boy, time to go show everyone how good you can be"
The puppy barked back eagerly as it followed Lincoln out the door, his three heads weaving from side to side as he took in all the new sights and smells. The leash was strong and made of a material that looked like a mix of leather and metal, ensuring that even if the pup decided to pull, he wouldn't be going anywhere fast.
"You sure its good idea to take him out?" his mother called with some worry "that riot at the town hall wasnt long ago" she added peeking out from the kitchen.
Lincoln nodded with a smile.
"Don't worry mom, I got this" He assured her with a thumbs up "Plus, according to the internet, its important that any Cerberi to get familiar to the surrounding area so it doesnt get lost and know where the house is as soon as possible." He said with a shrug trying to ease her mind.
"Just be careful," she said as she handed him the dog treats, "You never know what those Ragnarok fanatics might do."
Lincoln took the treats with a nod. He knew the risks. The Ragnarok had a bone to pick with his family, especially after the events at the park. But he couldn't let fear dictate his life. He had a responsibility to his new puppy and to himself.
Plus, it wasn't like he was defenseless...well...almost...but now he had a Cerberi...although that didnt made a difference last time...Okay maybe it wasnt the best argument but he had to try.
"Okay boy, stay close" Lincoln said as he stepped outside, the cool evening air a refreshing contrast to the tension that had built up inside "good thing Lynn is in practices or she would be insisting in coming with me...or lock me in again" he chuckled to himself remembering his sister´s overprotectiveness.
As he walked down the path, the sound of laughter drifted to his ears. He looked up and noticed his younger twin sisters, Lana and Lola, sitting under the large tree of their yard, their heads leaning together in a conspiratorial whisper as they munched on cookies from their backpacks. They looked up at him with wide eyes, their mouths full of cookie crumbs, and immediately scrambled to hide their snack.
Lincoln blinked and walked to them.
They tried to look innocent, but the crumbs on their cheeks gave them away.
"Lola...Lana..." their brother started "where you got those cookies?" he asked as he could notice the bags filled to the brim with cookies behind them.
The twins exchanged a look of pure guilty before Lola spoke up.
"Uh, we just found them," she said, her voice a little too sweet for Lincoln's taste.
"Found them" Lincoln repeated raising an eyebrow.
"Yep darnest thing someone left a box up in front of the house filled with cookies." Lola said keeping her sweet voice and grin. "
"yeah must of been left by a fan of one of our big sisters." Lana added on.
Lincoln...wasnt buying it...more as Charles sniffed and growled at the tomboy twin.
"Lana...do you have Diablo in your overalls?" asked the white haired boy.
The tomboy twin froze for a moment before she swallowed hard.
"What? No!" she sputtered out, trying to sound as innocent as possible."What would give you a crazy idea like that?" she asked with a strained laugh and smile.
Lincoln gave her a flat look before taking a breath and petting Charles to calm him down.
"Just...dont eat to much or you would get an stomachache or worst be too full for dinner and THEN you will have to explain things to mom" Lincoln warned his sisters with a knowing look before turning to his puppy "Lets go boy, before they convince me to have cookies for dinner"
The twins watched their brother and the puppy walk away, once they were far enough they let out a sigh of releif.
"You think we should have told him about the cookies just being in our bags when we returned from break time?" Lana whispered to Lola as they watched Lincoln and the Cerberi pup disappear around the corner.
"Are you crazy?" Lola hissed back at her sister, brushing the crumbs from her mouth with the back of her hand "It took us a lot to finish school and return home without anyone noticing them plus he'd totally take them away and tell mom!"
"point.." Lana said with a nod frowning, "plus Diablo really likes the chocolate chip."
As if summon, the green/blue horned snake peaked out Lana´s overalls to get the cookie the tomboy was offering him.
"Diablo you little rascal!" the tomboy said with a laugh as he crouch down to scoop the little snake up in loving manner.
With Lola rolling her eyes.
"I still don't understand why you can't get a sensible cute and adorable pet like me." she said as her pink bunny bounced next to her.
Lana stuck out her tongue at her sister.
"If a wanted something pink, fluffy and useless I would get a cotton candy." Lana retorted with a smirk "At least that would be delicious"
"Mr Fluffy isn't useless!" Lola retorted glaring at her twin, "He's the most sweetest, smartest, and most helpful bunny around!"
"sure..if you need some paperweight," Lana said with a roll of her eyes.
"TAKE THAT BACK!" Lola yelled as she pounced on Lana starting another fight.
...
...
...
While the two pets simply watched as each took a cookie to eat.
"So...hows life as Mr. Fluffy treating you." Spoke the snake in a low whisper giving a snicker.
"actually not that bad." the rabbit answered back while shrugging "It actually feels...nice being the one being pampered instead of being the one pampering"
The snake coiled around the cookie looking at Mr Fluffy with a glint in his eyes.
"Well for now it seems the plan is going well" he said.
"If you dont count that dog sniffing us away" groaned the bunny "seriously! why three headed dogs always had it for us?
The snake "shrugged"
"At least we managed to get inside his home...and start winning points with his sisters" Diablo said with a grin.
"Right...but.." Mr. Fluffy gave his friend a serious look, "I think it's pretty clear by now that he's no normal mortal."
"And if what we felt earlier is to say something, I think he might be closer to awaken than we thought," Diablo said, his forked tongue flicking out to catch a cookie crumb.
"Right which means so are all the others out there too." Mr. Fluffy said with a smirk.
"And then the party can really start" Diablo agreed with a chuckle.
Both animals gave a small laugh...before focusing on the still fighting girls.
At least they had some entertainment while they wait for the moment to introduce themselves to the boy.
(With Lincoln)
Meanwhile, Lincoln walked the quiet neighborhood streets with his new Cerberi pup, Charles. The sun was casting a warm glow over the quaint houses and well-kept lawns. Lincoln couldn't help but admire the beauty of the area, feeling a sense of peace and belonging that was rare these days.
As they strolled, he noticed some of the mythological beings that coexisted with humans in the area. A group of nymphs giggled as they played in an outdoor pool, their graceful forms glistening with water droplets that danced in the light. A dwarf, his beard as red as the setting sun, hammered away at a piece of metal on a porch making some repairment work (if the truck out the door was an indication), a dryad was watching a pair of kids playing with a frisbee, her leafy hair fluttering in the breeze.
Passing by another garden, Charles attention was caught by a group of gnomes doing some gardening; their pointed hats bobbing up and down as they worked. One looked up and waved at Lincoln with a cheeky grin, before getting back to his task. Lincoln couldn't help but wave back with a smile, feeling the warmth of the community.
"You know" Lincoln turned to the viewers "With monsters attacks and Ragnarok causing issues, one tend to forget how mythical is our way of life" he said with a small chuckle at his pun "sure inheritors tend to take front pages but other creatures too help making this place unique" he said with a nod at the gnomes as they waved back at him.
Lincoln kept walking, feeling more at ease with each step. He knew that the town was on edge after the recent events, but seeing the creatures of myth going about their daily routines helped to soothe his nerves.
Coming from the opposite direction a little girl (around Lola and Lana´s age) came petting a Treesqueak on her shoulder, the creature chirped happily as it looked around. They both stoped on a crossing waiting for the green light, while a wagon pulled by an unicorn passed by.
"Hi!" called out the little girl with a smile, her eyes lighting up as she saw the Cerberi pup. "What a cute puppy!"
Lincoln chuckled.
"Thanks, he's a handful though."
The little girl's eyes grew even wider.
"Is he a Cerberi? Can I pet him?"
Lincoln nodded with a warm smile.
"Of course, but be gentle. He's still a baby and doesn't know his own strength."
The girl approached cautiously, her eyes never leaving the pup's. She held out a trembling hand and let Charles sniff her scent before tentatively stroking his head. The Cerberi pup's middle head wagged happily, and the girl's face lit up like a Christmas tree.
"What's his name?" she asked, her voice filled with awe.
"This is Charles," Lincoln replied, watching as the girl giggled and continued to pet the pup, who was now trying to lick her face. "what about your little friend?" he asked back at the Treesqueak.
"This is Twiggy!" the little girl exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement "He's my best friend!"
The light at the intersection turned green and Lincoln watched as the little girl and Twiggy disappeared down the street, her laughter and the treesqueak's happy chirps fading into the distance.
"see?" Lincoln said to the viewers "not all creatures are considered monsters" he said with a smile watching the girl and her treesqueak friend disappear into the distance. "some we can have as pets, or help around the house or in our jobs"
A couple of police/centurions passed by ridding each a pegasus, their eyes scanning the area. Lincoln nodded in greeting, the centurions returning the gesture with a smile.
"Driads and Nymps are good babysitters, Cerberi and trained Orthros are good guardians, centaurs are used as police forces and some even have Phoenix as pets, they say they make amazing fire alarms," Lincoln quipped to the camera, trying to lighten the mood.
He kept the walk noticing a quartet of Fauns and Satyrs playing a lively game of tag in a nearby field, their laughter and the jingle of their pan pipes filling the air with an infectious sense of joy.
"And since the new Pan and Dionysius reincarnated in town, we have had an influx of Fauns and Satyrs. They sure know how to keep the peace," the boy said with a chuckle.
A couple of blocks later Lincoln reached Ketcham Park
The puppy's eyes grew wide at the sight of his kin playing in the field, and he tugged at his leash with a whine, eager to join them.
"Easy boy," Lincoln soothed, "you're not ready to play with the big kids yet."
The puppy looked up at him with pleading eyes, but Lincoln remained firm. He knew the importance of keeping the Cerberi under control, especially in a public place like the park.
"Tell you what, behave and I will let you out the leash before returning home," Lincoln whispered to the pup. The middle head of Charles cocked to the side as if he understood before the pup nodded vigorously.
As they entered the park, the boy noticed the heightened security around the area. More than usual there were patrols of centurions and police officers, some on foot and others on mythical steeds like hippogriffs and pegasi, keeping a watchful eye over the area.
Getting closer he noticed some of them looks...different than the others.
A group looked like Aztec warriors wearing armor decorated with colorful flowers and feathers, with their skin painted in intricate patterns. Some were vigilant while others interact with the curious children that approach them.
Another group looked similar, only instead of flowers they had headdresses with multicolored feathers, and their armor bore images of fierce animals.
Lincoln knew those Centurions. Flower warriors and Rainbow hunters; meaning two Inheritors he knows must be nearby.
The laughs and shouts of delight of little kids nearby drew Lincoln's gaze and confirmed his suspicion. In the center of the park there were two older teens (Around Lori´s age) surrounded by children. One was a tall and slender young man with light tan skin and black styled hair dressed in a type of short, midriff-baring, sleeveless, vest-like bodysuit with a geometric design in terracotta-red and beige tones, and with small floral embellishments. A beige belt or sash tied in a bow around his waist, a long, mainly red skirt with floral designs, with a beige trim at the bottom. He wore several dark green/turquoise bracelets or bangles on his wrists, red sandals, and a floral crown or headdress of pink and yellow flowers.
"Here you go little lady" he called with a smile as he waved his hands and a bunch of flowers wove themselves in a crown around the little girl's head.
MIGUEL TONATIUH ELIZARRARAZ-REINCARNATION OF XOCHIPILLI (AZTEC)
The girl giggled and clapped her hands, her eyes sparkling with delight.
Not far from there the other Inheritor was making a show as she produced a rainbow arc that shot from her hand, the children gasped in amazement as it hit the water from the fountain and created a shower of sparkling rainbow water droplets.
She was a plus-sized Latin American teenage girl with two pairs of eyelashes, and long black hair, with some strands, styled into a ponytail and tattoos or body paint on her arms and legs, in shades of brown and reddish, resembling stylized geometric designs. She was wearing a long, flowing dress in shades of red, pink, and orange, with a gradient effect. The skirt featured turquoise and white geometric patterns and decorative elements. A shorter, teal-colored layer appears underneath the longer red-toned skirt. The top is a low-cut, white or off-white bodice, revealing some cleavage. A belt-like section around her waist is embellished with feathers and what appears to be a stylized jade or stone mask. A magnificent headdress dominated her head. It's a tall, ornate creation featuring colorful feathers (green, yellow, orange, blue) arranged around a central, sculpted serpent head. On her arms, she wears bracelets and forearm guards in shades of gold, blue, and green with geometric designs and red sandals on her feet.
She was holding a large ceremonial staff with a curved/crescent moon top. It was mostly gold-colored with teal-blue accents and is ornately carved, featuring what looks like a stylized jaguar head at its center. Gem-like adornments are also part of the staff's design.
"And now for my grand finale!" she exclaimed dramatically, raising her staff high in the air. The children looked on with excitement and anticipation.
The air grew still as she pointed the staff at the sky. A moment later, a real, live rainbow arced over the park, casting a spectrum of light across the clear blue sky. The children oohed and aahed as the rainbow grew brighter and more vivid, its colors shimmering with an otherworldly glow. The staff began to hum with power, and the rainbow grew thicker, almost tangible.
"RAINBOW RAIN!!" she called as the rainbow split into a hundred smaller ones that rained down upon the children, turning the water in the fountain into a bubbly concoction of colorful delight. The kids squealed with joy as they danced in the rainbow shower, their laughter echoing throughout the park.
The girl looked really satisfied as she watched her magic come to life, a wide smile spread across her face as the children played in the fountain now turned into a bubble bath of rainbows.
CARLOTA CASAGRANDE-REINCARNATION OF IX CHEL (MAYAN)
She looked up noticing the white haired boy.
"Hey Lincoln!" she greeted him with a cheerful wave, her eyes sparkling with the same energy as her magic.
"Hey Carlota.." Lincoln greeted back with a wave and smile despite his issues with Ronnie Anne he didn't have any problems with her family....and admittedly might of nursed a crush on her cousin at one point.
Hey, who could blame him? the divine garb she was wearing was quite the sight to behold, plus since she ascended her bust seems to have...grow up more (apparently being a love or fertility goddess tend to do that) and her outfit didnt hide that fact.
"Hey Leni´s bro!" called Miguel also noticing the white haired boy with a puppy "new puppy?"
"Hehe yeah names Charles, and already feels like he's been part of the family forever." Lincoln answered back with a smile.
BARK-BARK-BARK
The dog seems to agree with that statement, wagging his tail at the mention of being part of the family.
"Cute" said Carlota pulling out her phone to take a quick pic.
"So what you two doing here?" asked Lincoln although he seems to have an idea of what.
The two Inheritors looked around at the children playing with the rainbows and flowers they created.
"Just...trying to give these little ones a good afternoon" said Carlota leading on her staff "you know, after everything that happened with the monsters...and a mob going crazy in downtown" she added with a roll of her eyes "It's the least we can do to remind them that not all inheritors are jerks."
"Yeah...tensions have been getting high lately huh." Lincoln said with a wince.
"You can say that again," Carlota nodded with a sigh, her smile fading a bit.
"We couldnt have come here unless we had some extra protection" said Miguel pointing at their guards "I mean..I dont mind the boys and the extra hands to entertain the kids is always welcome but..." he trailed trying to find the right words.
"The extra security makes it harder to get some you time." Lincoln stated and asked with a arched brow.
"In part yeah, I mean I get it, some crazy dude got his hand on something dangerous and now we have to be extra careful" said Carlota "But...I mean...I think we could hold our own easily and just have a handful of guards around instead of an entire platoon"
Miguel nodded in agreement.
"But hey, at least we get to do some good while being babysat" he chuckled.
Now one could be wondering...If they are their guards cant they simply ask them to leave?
Not so easy. Yes they are their guards, but both Carlota and Miguel were still "underage" (she being 17 he being 16) and they wont have full control of their respective guards until either reach the max age or they graduate the academy.
Something that could be frustrating at times since sometimes the guards felt more like a babysitter squad for them.
"Well at least we arent the only ones being babysit" said Carlota with a smirk looking over her shoulder.
Lincoln followed her gaze noticing other academy students around also entertaining the crowd.
Not far from them Jackie was surrounded by kids and kittens; as she was dressed in an Egyptian outfit composed of a short top that exposed her abdomen was covered with a short, lightweight skirt resembling a loincloth. Her arms were protected by ornately designed armbands and shoulder pads. She wore high boots that appeared to be made of a linen-like material and ended in dark hooves. A golden headdress or crown adorned her head. The outfit was decorated with jewels and gold and blue details.
Although the biggest change were the cat ears and tail she now had plus her hands now looked like cat paws.
JACKIE DAMES-REINCARNATION OF BASTET (EGYPTIAN)
Not far from her were not only Centurions dressed like Egyptian soldiers holding golden weapons, but also a pair of Griffins, their majestic wings folded back as they watched over the area with keen eyes.
"Jackie´s here too? Been a while since seen her around." Lincoln said with a blink.
"Yeah she got assigned to this area." said Carlota "She's been taking her job as protector of the city seriously...I mean more than usual." Carlota said with a chuckle "But she's really good with those kids."
"Everyone loves kitties" snickered Miguel watching the scene.
"Yeah...honestly surprised Leni doesn't seem to be hanging out with her as often as she used to." Lincoln said with a thoughtful look
Werent they both goddess of love? or was he mixing Bastet with someone else?
"Ehhh Leni, as you know, have been having her downs and...well...more downs" said Miguel scratching his neck.
Even he knew Leni as the new Aphrodite wasnt having the best of times nor seems to be getting better with her powers.
It was a bit worrying as they knew that as one of the "12 Olympians" Leni would also had A LOT of responsibilities and attention on her. But although in some aspects she didnt seem to have issues...Love matching and making seems to NOT be her forte.
"Yeah...i think mom and dad are still dealing with the fall out from that mess with a married man and his student." Lincoln said with a wince he loved his sister but he couldn't deny that was mess to say the least.
"It's tough man," Carlota said sympathetically, "but we gotta stick together right? We're all in this weird god-stuff together" she said with a shrug trying to lighten the mood.
"Indeed and Hey! maybe this visit and playing with kids will help her...somehow" said Miguel trying to sound reassuring.
Although he didnt seems to believe himself.
"She is here too?" asked Lincoln
"Yeah she and some of our classmates" answered Carlota "trying to keep the peace and all that jazz." she said with a playful wink.
"Huh..maybe I should check to see how she's doing." Lincoln said with a low hum.
"Well think she was with a classmate of ours at the park´s center" said Miguel "Both were sent to check on the shrines by the big fountain and make sure they were still in one piece"
"You want us to escort you there?" Carlota offered with a smile, "after all been while wouldn't mind catching up" she said with a giggle shooting him a wink.
"Thanks, but I'll manage." Lincoln said with a smirk, "Plus still need to give this boy his walk and you guys are busy right now" he added patting Charles in the head and seeing the crowd of children again approaching.
"Hehe true...but seriously little man don't be a stranger now." Miguel said with a smile toward the sole male loud sibling.
"Yeah...I'll try not to" Lincoln said with a chuckle "And dont worry, will try come to say goodbye to you guys before returning home" he then pulled at the leash "come on Charles"
The Cerberi puppy barked in excitement, eager to explore the park.
But as the white haired boy and the put resumed their walk and the two Inheritors turned to attend the crowd, none of them noticed the eyes of Jackie´s griffins following Lincoln with distrust....nor how the other Cerberi of the park began walking after the boy.
(Town hall)
Mayor Davis felt a headache growing that didnt had to do with the wound on her head, that fortunately was just a superficial wound.
No the issue was that now she had in her office 5 of the 6 local members of the Elysian Council, with only two of them being someones she was sure could have a civilized conversation without "smiting and punishment" being thrown in.
The Council members were sitting around her office with various expressions of discontent or irritation not only at the situation, but at each other too.
"So...you let one of those criminals escape?" a man with a long pointy nose, long brown hair and thick, brown eyebrows yelled at Huggings. He was dressed in a royal Chinese garb with sea colors. His eyes were a piercing shade of blue, and from his forehead, a pair of antlers grew out. His attire was adorned with gold and jade, reminiscent of ancient royalty. A dragon tail swished behind him, hinting at his mythical heritage.
"For the last time Miller!" Huggings called back, his grip on his spear tightening "That girl was just a child!"
"Oh sure!" Mr. Miller trialed "she was just someone that was with those...Ragnarok criminals wielding restricted weapons!"
The room went tense and Mayor Davis felt like slumping in her chair, she had been dealing with the aftermath of the last days events and she was not in the mood to deal with gods squabbling like children.
"You have to admit he got you there" said lady Yates in her normal tone (although Huggins was sure she was mocking him) "And we wont know if she was innocent or not as you let her escape"
"Umm although letting a suspect escape do sounds bad..."another female voice sounded "I would prefer not have a dead child on the news...is bad for the city and the academy´s reputation after all"
The speaker was an average-sized woman with light brown hair tied into a bun and pale skin. Her attire consisted of a purple business skirt suit, golden dreamcatcher necklace and spider earrings, light purple eyeshadow, fuchsia lipstick and purple heels.
"I think a CHILD´S life is more important than our reputation Miss Crandall" Huggins shot back, his eyes flashing with annoyance.
The mayor felt her headache growing. Joyce Crandall was someone that cared little for things outside the town or the academy's immediate interests, and her nonchalance about the girl's escape was infuriating. Yet at the same time, those interests could help to side her to help find a solution that didn't end in a public scandal or something akin to "public sacrifices" which was something Miller seemed all too eager to push for.
"Now, now," Mayor Davis interjected, her voice a forced calm, "we're all here to find a way to keep the peace. Let's not start pointing fingers."
"Indeed" Lord Tetherby called from his chair "If we do Im afraid we would be pointing them to you mayor" he said with a smirk.
That made everyone (specially the mayor) turn at the reincarnation of the jade emperor in surprise, confusion and wonder.
"Excuse me?!" called the mayor with a raised eyebrow at the unexpected remark from Lord Tetherby, her voice a mix of surprise and annoyance.
"I mean no disrespect, Mayor," Tetherby began with a smoothness that didn't quite hide the edge in his tone, "but it's clear that your leniency towards Ragnarok has allowed them to fester and grow bolder in their actions." His eyes narrowed, the jaded expression on his face speaking volumes about his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. "Your policies of 'freedom of speech' and 'second chances' may have worked in the past, but it's evident that they have overstepped their bounds."
The room grew tense as the implications of his words hung in the air. Mayor Davis felt her grip tighten on the arms of her chair, her knuckles whitening.
"I understand your concerns, Lord Tetherby," she said evenly, "but we must uphold the principles of this city. We can't simply condemn or attack a group based on their beliefs, no matter how distasteful we might find them."
The new Jade emperor leaned back in his chair, a knowing smile playing on his lips.
"Ah, but it's not their beliefs that are the issue, Mayor. It's their actions. They've gone from mere protests and rhetoric to inciting fear and chaos, endangering not just our citizens but our very way of life. If we don't act now, we're only giving them more time to prepare for their next move."
Miller nodded in agreement with that, miss Crandall remained neutral while Huggings scoffed.
"Oh please, we've been over this. We can't just go around attacking groups because we don't like their views!"
"You might have been right there in the past" said lady Yates "but the fact they managed to get their hands on olympian bronze weapons AND bring them to their co-called pacific protest is beyond troubling. It shows clear intent of escalation"
"And if they do that here, chances are that they would try somewhere else" said Lord Tetherby with a stern look, "we can't ignore the signs of trouble just because we fear the political backlash" he added.
"On that note" Mayor Davis called turning to the new Odin "any news from the other academies? have they had riot issues?" she asked knowing Ragnarok had groups all over the world.
Huggings hummed.
"I havent had news from the academies in the old continent yet" he called "But I already talked with the principals of Monte Macabro and El Dorado, they havent had any incident but they're on high alert" Huggins said with a nod.
"Good, keep us informed," Mayor Davis said with a nod. "Now, what are we going to do about the situation here in Royal Woods?"
The Council members exchanged glances, each weighing their words carefully before speaking. Miss Crandall was the first to break the silence.
"Perhaps it's time we reconsider our approach to the Ragnarok supporters," she suggested, her voice measured and cool. "If they're willing to engage in such acts, we may need to implement stronger surveillance and possibly even curfews for those under suspicion."
"Agreed," said Lord Tetherby, his gaze unwavering. "We have let them run amok for too long. It is time to show them that we are not to be trifled with. The gods of this city will not stand idly by while they threaten our way of life."
"I say we go arrest their local leaders and make an example out of them!" Mr. Miller slammed his fist on the armrest of his chair; his face gaining azure scales as he spoke.
Mayor Davis raised her hand to stop the conversation from spiraling further out of control.
"Let's not jump to conclusions. We need to handle this delicately, without infringing on the civil liberties of our citizens."
Miller's eyes flashed with indignation as he stood, his antlered head tilting back as he let out a deep, resonant growl.
"Delicacy? When we're talking about a group that would see us all bow before their twisted ideals? They've already proven they have no regard for our laws or our peace!" His voice grew louder, echoing off the walls of the office "I said its time to remind them who we are!"
Tetherby nodded solemnly in agreement with Miller, his own expression grim.
"While I understand the need for restraint," he began, his voice a low rumble, "we must also recognize the gravity of the situation. If Ragnarok is willing to use such extreme measures, then we must be prepared to meet them with an appropriate response. We cannot afford to be seen as weak or indecisive."
Miss Crandall leaned forward, her expression thoughtful.
"Perhaps we could offer them a chance to disband peacefully," she suggested. "A public statement condemning their actions, a pledge to disarm and disband... it may be enough to avoid further conflict."
Her suggestion was met with a mix of skepticism and frustration from the others. Huggings rubbed his forehead, clearly tired of the debate.
"Miss Crandall, while your approach is admirable, I fear it may be too late for peaceful negotiations," The new Jade emperor said heavily. "Their actions speak louder than words at this point."
"And I say time for our actions be be louder!" Miller roared, the room shaking slightly.
The mayor fear grew palpable in the room as the doors to her office slammed open, the force behind it making the ornaments on the walls rattle.
"Oh you want some action boy? just tell me when and where and I will whoop your ass so hard you won't be able to sit for a week!" an old yet strong voice called.
Everyone turned to the doorway where two figures stood.
The one that spoke was an elderly heavy set African American woman with white hair worn in two Afro puffs. She was wearing red square glasses and was dressed in a black coat (with white bones motifs) with a light grey shawl over her shoulders, a darker grey dress underneath, and black slippers.
"And you Tetherby, for being one of the so-called elders of this town you speak as many idiocies as my own son!" the old woman continued, pointing her cane at him.
"Oh great, who let the fossil out the retirement home?" Miller said in low tone.
GRRRRRR!
Although it seems it wasnt low enough as suddenly a bone arm appeared and grabbed the man by the neck and brought him closer to the old woman (revealing the arm was emerging from her back).
"Young man, you better watch that tongue of yours or I'll show you how the ancients deal with disrespect" she said with a predatory grin showing her teeth.
CHARLETTE "SUGA MAMA" PROUD- REINCARNATION OF MARINETTE BRAS CHECHE (VOODOO)
And to add to her threat, a sharp bone stake formed on her hand pointing it at Miller´s face.
"Suga mama, please, let go of Mr. Miller," Mayor Davis said with a mix of amusement and concern, "we can discuss this like adults."
The old woman, known as Charlette "Suga Mama" Proud, released Miller with a huff, causing him to cough and rub his neck. She then turned to face the Mayor with a twinkle in her eye.
"My apologies, Mayor," she said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "but I've seen too much of the world's ugliness to stand by while these young whippersnaps throw around threats like candy."
"Hahaha Suga mama still filled with energy even after all these years" talked the second figure with a laugh.
He was a short man of stocky build and reddish-orange skin. He had dark brown hair, cut short on the sides and tied back in a bun on top of his head. His facial features included large, dark eyes, a large, wide nose, and a wide mouth with a jovial expression. He had a small chin and some facial hair. His body was large and rounded, with a relaxed posture.
He wore a light blue, short-sleeved shirt with a print of palm trees and seabirds and a shark-tooth necklace around his neck. Matching yellow and purple striped shorts and brown sandals.
Shark tattoos were visible on his arms.
"Mr. Makani" greeted the Mayor "Welcome to Royal woods"
"Hahahaha please, Tito is fine" the short man chuckled with a jovial tone as he approached the group. "And its nice to come to visit my sister and in the way help around in what I can" he added turning to Huggings with a nod.
"And Im thankful you accepted to teach at the academy" Huggins said with a smile.
"Ah, it's the least I could do," Tito Makani replied, his eyes twinkling with mischief, "plus it gives me an excuse to see how one of my little friends is doing after he had to move here" he moved to give Miller a hand "come on! up with you"
Miller took the offered hand and stood up with a grumble, his cheeks red with embarrassment.
"Huff..." he gave Suga mama a glare as he dusted off his clothes "thanks for the...concern." He said with a forced smile.
GRRRRRR
Another growl made him jump as a poodle-mix Cerberi walked next to the old woman, looking up with a snarl at the draconic man.
"Easy boy," Suga Mama chuckled, patting the dog's head. "this young worm is not worth your time"
Tito chuckled at his friend's antics
"Suga Mama, don't go making enemies before you even get to know people"
"Oh but I know this worm very well" Suga Mama said with a smirk at Miller, her poodle Cerberi sitting down next to her as if knowing to behave.
Mayor miller let out a sigh; Suga Mama was the last member of the the local council, while Tito Makai was a national council member for the godly community. One she had deal with in the past and know she would have her help while the other, for what she had heard from the new Pele, was an easy going guy that didn't really care about much but the ocean, family and his students.
"I understand your frustrations," Mayor Davis said, addressing the Council members calmly, "but we must think strategically. We can't afford to alienate the citizens of Royal Woods or risk turning them against us. We need to find a balance between security and freedom."
"Not to mention that if we start arresting Ragnarok members out of the blue we would be helping their view of us being oppressors of humanity and make martyrs out of any leader we manage to capture," Suga mama called out, her eyes narrowing at Miller and Tetherby. "We need evidence, a clear plan, and a way to do this without making things worse for us or the students of not only our academy but the others too" she scoffed "or you think the Ragnarok branches of other parts of the world will remain silence while the dismantle the one here?"
The room went quiet as they digested the words of the wise woman. Suga Mama's reputation as a shrewd strategist and a fierce protector of her community was well-known, even among the gods and goddesses of Royal Woods. Her words carried weight, and it was clear that she wasn't one to be easily swayed by passion or anger unless her family was involved.
"Ummm....Evidence, indeed," murmured Miss Crandall, her expression contemplative. "freedom of speech or not, they still had forbidden weaponry for civilians in their possession." she called everyone´s attention "perhaps we cant break the group, but this is a good excuse to search their meeting places for more illegal items...and if we found more we could have enough evidence to arrest their leaders"
Lord Tetherby nodded, his expression thoughtful.
"A raid," he said, tapping his chin with a finger, "but a carefully planned one. We don't want to give them any reason to claim we're overstepping our bounds."
"But it has its merits" said lady Yates "and even if we cant arrest a head, we can mine their trust as if the leaders dont want to be arrested they would have to put blame on their followers and it would create dissent"
Either they reject knowing about the weapons and getting someone else to be arrested weakening their group, or they accept they knew about the weapons making them guilty and being arrested also weakening their group.
Win-win in her book.
Mayor Davis nodded thoughtfully at the suggestions it seems it was the best solution they could come on with the current situation. Wasnt perfect, but was a good start.
"Alright, we'll proceed with a covert operation to gather evidence and possibly confiscate any illegally obtained weapons. We'll keep the peace while we build a stronger case against Ragnarok." She turned to Huggings "I want the academy to work closely with our local law enforcement for this one, keep our students safe but also keep it low profile."
"This could also be a good lesson of how deal with rebellious groups like this one" said Lady Yates.
Huggings frowned.
"I would prefer keep my students from being involved in such a dangerous operation," Huggins said firmly, his expression serious. "But if it's the only way to ensure their safety in the long run, then we'll cooperate fully. However, I must insist on strict protocols to minimize any potential risks to them."
Yates hide a scoff.
They were gods! They shouldnt fear the likes of Ragnarok. Or her daughter beating some of them wasnt proof enough of that?
"Well thats one issue down but still there is the fact not only the town but all the great lakes area is quite on edge after the last monster incidents and you can bet this riot wont help our case," Miss Crandall pointed out.
"Umm yes...it seems to me we need to find a way to help everyone to relax and find peace again" Tito said with a nod, stroking his chin in thought. "Maybe a community event? Something that could unite everyone and show that we stand together, regardless of our backgrounds or beliefs."
The room went quiet as the idea sunk in. A community event could serve as a way to ease tensions and show that the town wasn't divided by fear or anger. It could be a beacon of hope and unity.
"Umm on that...I have a suggestion" called lady Yates making everyone turn to the new Athena "its obvious all this incidents have mine the trust normal people have with gods and goddess...maybe we should remind them off all the good we do...make them remember how good things are thanks to us" she said with a smile. "and at the same time, let them see us walking and having fun among them in a more...normal setting..."
The mayor and some of the council members looked at her with a raised eyebrow
Surely she wasnt proposing...
"As such...I propose we move ahead the Apotheosis festival of this year," Lady Yates continued, her voice gaining momentum, "make it grander than ever before. A spectacle that showcases the might and grace of the gods among mortals, while also allowing us to interact with them in a more approachable manner. It will serve as a testament to the protection and prosperity we provide."
The room buzzed with murmurs of agreement, the tension slightly alleviating at the thought of a peaceful solution. The Apotheosis festival was a tradition that had been held for centuries, a time where gods and goddesses would showcase their power and beauty, while also connecting with their mortal worshippers.
"A grand festival could indeed serve as a unifying force," Mayor Davis mused, "but are we ready for such a large-scale event with the current unrest?"
Huggins shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his gaze drifting to the floor. He knew all too well that the Apotheosis Festival was more than just a celebration; it was the pinnacle of the year for many families. It was when children would undergo the sacred ritual to determine if they had inherited the mantles of any divine ancestors.
"The Festival is a time-honored tradition," he said hesitantly, "but with the current unrest, I fear it may not be the best time to introduce new inheritors to the community." He looked around the room, his eyes meeting the nods of understanding from a few of the council members. "These children have enough to deal with as they come to terms with their powers. The added pressure of a public spectacle might be overwhelming."
Suga Mama leaned back in her chair, stroking her chin thoughtfully.
"Huggins has a point," she agreed. "We don't want to thrust these young ones into the spotlight too soon. They need to understand their responsibilities and the weight of their inheritance."
"Not to mention the time would be to tight for us and for families outside Royal woods to come," Miss Crandall added with a sigh, her mind racing with the logistics and safety concerns, "it's usually planned a year ahead. And with the recent...incidents, we might not be able to guarantee their safety." she added looking at Lady Yates, who's smile remained.
"Ah, but that's where the beauty of improvisation comes in," Lady Yates said with a graceful wave of her hand, "We could scale it down, keep it local, and make it a surprise. A spontaneous celebration of unity and strength. It doesn't have to be grand, just genuine."
The room fell silent as they considered the idea. It was risky, but it might just work. The suddenness of the event could catch Ragnarok off guard and give the townspeople something positive to focus on. It was a gamble, but with the situation as tense as it was, they needed something to tip the scales in their favor.
"Alright, let's proceed with this idea," Mayor Davis said finally, her eyes scanning the group. "We'll organize a smaller, localized Apotheosis Festival. We'll keep the details under wraps as much as possible to prevent any interference. Tito, I want you to work with the students and teachers at the academy to put together a cultural showcase. Highlight the diversity and talents of our godly descendants without flaunting it in the face of those who fear us."
Tito nodded, a twinkle in his eye.
"I'd be happy to, Mayor. I've got a few ideas for some ocean-themed performances that I think will wow the crowd."
Tito's words brought a small smile to Mayor Davis's face, the tension in the room easing slightly. The idea of a community event to bring everyone together was a good one, but they all knew it wouldn't be easy. The town was still reeling from the recent monster attacks and the presence of Ragnarok had everyone on edge. However, the thought of celebrating the unity and strength of the town through a scaled-down Apotheosis Festival was something they could all get behind.
"Very well," Mayor Davis said with a firm nod, "We'll proceed with caution. Miss Crandall, please work with the local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our citizens and guests. Huggins, coordinate with Tito on the festival's logistics, keeping the students' well-being as the top priority. And Suga Mama, I'd like for you to reach out to the local religious leaders and other community figures. We need their support to make this work."
Suga Mama nodded solemnly.
"I'll do what I can, Mayor," she said, her voice carrying the weight of her years of experience. "But we must tread carefully. Ragnarok may not be the only ones watching us."
She and her granddaughter have been feeling...something...something in the air have shifted, something was off...but they couldn't quite put their fingers on it. But if they both were feeling it then she must try talk with other Loa Inheritors...she had a feeling that they might be feeling it too.
The Mayor nodded.
"We'll keep our eyes and ears open," she assured, her gaze sharp and focused. "Now, let's get to work. Time is of the essence."
With the plan set in motion, the Council members began to disperse, each with their own tasks to accomplish. As the room emptied, Mayor Davis approached Huggins, her expression a mix of concern and determination.
"I know this isn't the ideal situation, but we must ensure the safety of the students while also restoring the town's faith in us." Huggins spoke to the Mayor as the last few Council members left the room. His brow furrowed, he couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in his stomach.
"Its this about what those harpies said? about Typhon?" The mayor asked with a frown. As other leaders before her she had been..filled in...about some sensible info about Inheritors. Among them the fear/worry of "the god killers"
"Yes, and no," Huggins replied, his voice tight, "the timing is too perfect...but we have to be careful. We don't want to start a panic."
Mayor Davis nodded in understanding, her eyes never leaving his.
"Inheritors and leaders all around the world have worry not only about Typhon but also beings like him ever since the first Gen of new gods appeared" she said with a sigh "plans have been made and re-made with each year, each new god, each advance of human tech..." she paused "but in all that time there have been no sign of him or the others...not even a whisper..." she gave the new Odin a hard look "now you came to me to tell me a trio of harpies spoke about him?" she sighed "be honest with me Huggings, what chances you really think the father of monsters would actually have to appear in our time?"
Huggins took a deep breath, his eyes serious as he met the Mayor's gaze.
"I don't know for certain, Mayor, but we can't ignore the possibility," he said. "The students that heard them said they talked with a security that was eerily similar to what's described in ancient texts. And their warnings...they were too specific."
"sigh...I get what you trying to say" the mayor said, running her hand through her hair "but we can't just ring alarms and cause panic based on some cryptic messages from some mythical birds" she sighed "Even less after we are about to have the most peaceful month ever" she added as, outside the monster escape and the hydra, monster attacks/sightings have been on a new low record.
Huggins nodded.
"Understood, Mayor. We'll proceed with caution and keep the students informed on a need-to-know basis," he said, his voice filled with resolve. "But we must prepare for the worst, even if it means hoping for the best."
The mayor nodded solemnly, her expression a mirror of his concern. She could only hope that the festival would indeed serve as the beacon of hope they needed and that no new threats would emerge to cast a shadow over their efforts.
