Chapter 283 - Chapter 283: The Mysterious Survivors of Roran

Konoha.

Hokage's Office.

Mirai pushed open the door and stepped inside, suddenly sensing something different from usual.

"Weird..."

He muttered to himself and looked around for a moment before finally noticing what was off.

The Hokage's desk, which was normally buried under towering stacks of paperwork, was completely empty.

Sitting in the Hokage's chair was Namikaze Minato, wearing an innocent, almost naive expression, looking completely harmless.

Beside him, Tsunade and the others were frozen in shock.

Seeing Mirai enter, Minato greeted him with a smile. "Mirai, you're here?"

Mirai glanced at Tsunade and the others in confusion. "What's going on? Did you all finish the paperwork ahead of time?"

Tsunade, Kurenai Yuhi, and Konan all shook their heads, unable to hold back their sighs of amazement.

"Mirai, your decision was absolutely right. Minato was born to be Hokage."

Before Minato arrived, the desk had been piled high with paperwork as usual. Even with the entire secretary team working together, it would have taken them nearly a full day to process everything.

But... Minato had finished everything at an unbelievable speed—completely on his own.

At first, Tsunade thought Minato might be rushing through things recklessly just to make a good impression on his first day.

But when she prepared to lecture the young Hokage, she caught a glimpse of the documents he had processed.

Not only had he left detailed annotations, but he had also highlighted key points, making them even more organized than when she handled them herself.

Curious, Kurenai and the others gathered around to check as well, only to find every document in the same meticulous state.

They all collectively took a sharp breath.

How was Minato reviewing paperwork this fast?

At that moment, an ANBU entered and placed another stack of documents—at least a dozen—on the desk.

Minato immediately picked up his pen and began working at lightning speed.

His eyes darted across the pages, and his hand moved so quickly that afterimages appeared.

In mere seconds, all the documents were fully processed.

Even Mirai couldn't help but suck in a breath at the sight.

Fast hands? That was understandable.

But how was his brain working that fast?!

Unable to hold back his curiosity, Mirai asked, "Minato, doesn't handling this much paperwork tire you out?"

Minato chuckled. "Not really. It's just a little boring, but at least I get off work at five. That's better than I expected."

Tsunade and the others fell into speechless silence.

One person had done the work of an entire team—and wasn't even tired?!

And now he was talking about getting off work at five?

They barely ever got to leave on time!

Even Mirai couldn't help but feel like he had just been shown up.

It had been a long time since someone had made him feel this outclassed...

No wonder Minato was known as the fastest man in the ninja world!

Mirai gave him a thumbs-up. "Minato, when it comes to being Hokage, I have to admit—you're the strongest."

Minato smiled shyly before handing Mirai a document.

"Speaking of which, Mirai, could you take a look at this file?"

"Hmm? What's it about?" Mirai took the document from Minato and scanned it curiously.

Minato explained, "It seems a group of people claiming to be survivors from Roran are requesting an audience with you."

"The leader's name is Salle."

Mirai frowned. "Salle?"

He didn't recall anyone by that name.

Survivors from Roran...

Could this have something to do with the Dragon Vein?

Seeing Mirai's expression, Minato asked, "Do you want me to turn them away?"

Since Mirai had been granted the title of Emperor, the number of people requesting an audience with him had become endless. The Hokage's office received hundreds of such petitions daily.

If Mirai hadn't happened to be present, Minato would have rejected this one outright.

"No need," Mirai shook his head.

Aside from the Tailed Beasts, the Dragon Vein was another power he had always been interested in.

Since these people were claiming to be Roran's survivors, he might as well meet them.

"Where are they now?" Mirai asked.

"There are quite a few of them, so they've been temporarily settled in an open area east of the village."

"Got it."

Without another word, Mirai vanished on the spot.

Minato checked the time and then turned to Tsunade, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Tsunade-sama, is there anything else that needs handling? If not, I'd like to head home for a bit. I left some clothes drying this morning, and they should be ready to bring in."

"Don't worry, I'll be back in less than a minute using Flying Thunder God."

Tsunade and the others clenched their fists silently.

Going home?

The way he said it made them feel completely incompetent!

...

Outside Konoha.

Over a hundred people sat on the ground, their belongings piled beside them.

They wore long, gray robes with hoods and face coverings that wrapped them up completely, leaving only their eyes exposed. They looked weary from travel.

Most of them were curiously gazing in the direction of Konoha.

After a brief observation, Mirai stepped forward to meet them.

The moment they saw him, their eyes lit up, and they excitedly rushed forward.

The two at the front removed their face coverings.

One was a short, chubby middle-aged man with buck teeth, who spoke first, his voice filled with excitement.

"Mirai-sama, after all these years, you haven't changed at all!"

Beside him, a slender middle-aged woman smiled. "Mirai-sama, how has Queen Sara been all these years?"

Mirai frowned slightly at their familiarity. "You two... who are you?"

They didn't seem surprised by his reaction. The man continued,

"You don't remember us?"

"Mirai-sama, I'm Salle, and this is Yako."

"Yako, bring out what Mirai-sama entrusted us with."

The woman named Yako immediately responded. "Ah, right! There was something like that."

"Mirai-sama, please wait a moment!"

She hurried over to her luggage, rummaged through it, and then excitedly returned.

"Mirai-sama, you told us that if you ever forgot us, we should give you this scroll."

The scroll was old and worn.

Mirai unrolled it, and the contents were simple—just a single Flying Thunder God mark.

His own Flying Thunder God mark.
