By the time Yu Xie returned to the mansion, it was already quite late. He hadn't expected his schedule to be so packed today.
When he entered his room, he realized he wasn't alone.
The window was slightly open, and the silvery moonlight streamed in through the crack. In the pale light, Yu Xie saw someone lying on his bed.
With a graceful figure and an exquisite face—Shen He was lying there, breathing evenly, fast asleep.
It was easy to imagine that Shen He had been waiting for Yu Xie to return, and had waited so long that she fell asleep.
Yu Xie quietly walked to the bedside and looked at the sleeping Shen He, not wanting to wake her. He simply lay down on the other side of the bed.
The faint fragrance from Shen He gradually filled Yu Xie's nose, and a sense of drowsiness slowly crept in.
The night quickly passed.
When Yu Xie woke up the next morning, he found that Shen He had snuggled up to him so closely, as if she had mistaken him for a blanket or a body pillow. Her hands and legs were nearly wrapped around him.
Seeing that Shen He was still sound asleep, Yu Xie couldn't help but smile helplessly. He carefully moved her hands and feet away from him.
Moving her hands was easy enough, but as Yu Xie sat up and gently moved Shen He's legs, she woke up.
Yu Xie's hand was resting on Shen He's thigh, and their eyes met. The atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward.
"Yu Xie, are you…?" Shen He asked softly, her heart racing uncontrollably.
Over the past couple of days, with a recommendation from Kitsune Saiguu, Shen He had read a few romance light novels from Inazuma. Some of the scenes in those novels had left a deep impression on her.
At this very moment, the situation felt strikingly similar to some of those scenes in the novels. Could it be…?
Yu Xie looked at Shen He, pulled his hand back, and suddenly felt a bit awkward.
If he told the truth, it would embarrass Shen He, but if he didn't, wouldn't it make him seem like a pervert who just wanted to touch her leg?
After thinking for a moment, Yu Xie decided to shoulder the responsibility.
"It's probably because I just woke up and my mind isn't clear. I saw such beautiful legs, and my hand just… went there, haha… Sorry, Shen He…" Yu Xie chuckled awkwardly.
Shen He paused for a moment before softly speaking, "It's alright, if it's you… really, it's fine… if you like…"
Halfway through Shen He's words, a knock on the door suddenly sounded, followed by the voice from Kitsune Saiguu.
"Yu Xie, get up, breakfast is ready! Don't sleep in."
"Okay, I'll be right there," Yu Xie responded.
After hearing footsteps retreating outside, Yu Xie and Shen He exchanged another glance.
They both got out of bed, and the atmosphere was still a bit awkward.
"Last night, I intended to wait here for you to come back, but I ended up falling asleep while waiting," Shen He said.
"Mm, let's wash up first and then go have breakfast," Yu Xie said.
"Mm," Shen He nodded gently.
After breakfast...
Yu Xie received another invitation, this time from the Tenshukaku.
A soldier from Tenshukaku brought the shogun's orders—Yu Xie was asked to come to Tenshukaku.
Thus, Yu Xie couldn't refuse.
When Yu Xie arrived at the main hall of Tenshukaku, Makoto was dealing with official matters.
"Shogun, Mr. Yu Xie has arrived."
"Good, thank you for your hard work. Go rest for now and return to your duties afterward," Makoto told the soldiers who had brought Yu Xie.
"Yes!" The two soldiers bowed respectfully and then left.
Only Makoto and Yu Xie remained in the hall.
"Yu Xie, could you sit for a while? I'll finish these tasks soon," Makoto smiled at Yu Xie.
"No problem," Yu Xie smiled back.
Watching Makoto work, Yu Xie didn't say anything further. He simply moved to her side, wanting to see if there was anything he could help with.
Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be anything he could assist with.
So, Yu Xie stood quietly beside Makoto, not speaking.
He wasn't sure how much time passed, but eventually, Makoto stopped her work, let out a long breath, stood up from her chair, and apologized to Yu Xie:
"Sorry, Yu Xie, it seems like handling these matters took longer than I expected."
"It's fine, seeing you work so seriously is actually quite interesting," Yu Xie smiled. "So, did you call me here today for something important?"
"There's nothing particularly important today, I just...," Makoto hesitated slightly. "I just wanted to relive the old days. Back when you were still the Grand Commander of Okuzumeshuu, you would always accompany me while I handled official matters."
"I see. I guess I must have really enjoyed watching you work so seriously back then."
"So... if possible, could you be my personal guard for today, like you used to?" Makoto asked tentatively.
To her surprise, Yu Xie's response was much more decisive than she had expected.
"Of course, no problem."
....
For Makoto, this day felt like a journey through time.
It was as if she had returned to the time hundreds of years ago, back to the days that could never be revisited.
Yu Xie was by her side, as though he would never leave.
Even with so many tasks waiting for her, she didn't feel tired. On the contrary, she wished that time could slow down a little.
But time always moves forward.
The day quickly passed, and as the sunset cast its golden rays, the clouds on the horizon seemed to ignite in flames, signaling the arrival of evening.
Makoto finished her work for the day and, with Yu Xie, made her way to the attic on the top floor of Tenshukaku to watch the fiery sunset.
The sea reflected the sunset, sparkling with the shimmering light of the waves.
It was a beautiful scene, though the only regret was that this fleeting moment could only be seen during this brief part of the day.
"Thank you, Yu Xie, for spending the day with me," Makoto said softly.
The wind blew through the attic, rustling Makoto's hair and the hem of her clothes. In the wind, she looked like a beauty that had stepped out of a painting.
"It is my honor to spend the day with Lady Raiden Makoto," Yu Xie smiled.
A faint smile appeared on Makoto's lips as she turned to face Yu Xie, who was now so close.
The thought that Yu Xie would soon leave Inazuma, and that she wouldn't see him for some time, caused a strange sense of loss to well up inside her.
Some words were already on the tip of her tongue.
"Yu Xie, I really want to thank you. Thank you for saving me, thank you for saving Chiyo, thank you for saving Kitsune Saiguu, and thank you for everything you've done for Inazuma."
The twilight glow bathed both of them, and the affection in Makoto's eyes deepened.
She cautiously moved closer to Yu Xie, slowly extending her arms to wrap around his shoulders, pulling him into an embrace.
Seagulls flew across the sea, and the sea breeze blew gently. The sunset bathed Tenshukaku, creating a dreamlike, almost surreal scene.
"Yu Xie, I like you. No matter if you remember the past or not, I like you. Whether it was in the past or now, I like you... This is Raiden Makoto's confession. These are the words I've wanted to say to you for a long, long time..."
