Chapter 264 - Chapter 2: I Open It

The sunset glow bathed the entire small island in an orange-red hue.

Under the setting sun, the two girls sat on the beach, hugging their knees, silently gazing at the gradually disappearing sun.

If it weren't for the occasional blinking of their eyes, one might mistakenly think they were real stone statues.

"Sigh..."

After a long while, one of the girls let out a deep sigh. "Actually, when I saw that I was playing Yuzuru Yamai, I had a bad premonition in my heart."

"I didn't expect the system to actually dare to do it."

The other girl slowly nodded, her lifeless eyes showing no expression. "At least seek my consent? You just split my consciousness into two without asking, aren't you afraid I'll just quit and not do it?"

An hour ago, Kaguya Yamai, who was about to leave this place, encountered Yuzuru Yamai, who had the same thought.

When they saw each other, they immediately guessed that the system must have messed things up again.

In a hurry, they verified each other's identity, confirmed the situation, checked their memories, and after a series of operations, they reached the conclusion.

Just like how the wind spirit Yamai was split into the two Yamai sisters in the original story, I was also split into two.

They had the same memories, the same past, but their consciousness and personalities were subtly different.

The personality playing Yuzuru Yamai was calmer, while the one playing Kaguya Yamai was livelier.

At first glance, this seemed like a good thing.

When playing their respective spirit girls, they could more easily immerse themselves in the role and get a high score in the end.

At the same time, in this not-so-safe world, they could help each other out, fully trusting each other with their backs.

But directly splitting their personalities like this made the two girls resentful of the system's actions.

Once this world ended, they might be able to piece themselves back together, but who would be the dominant personality afterward?

Or would both the personalities playing Yuzuru Yamai and Kaguya Yamai disappear, and a new personality be born?

The two girls fell into a long period of philosophical thinking.

When the sun had completely disappeared from the horizon, the two girls finally snapped out of their thoughts.

"Forget it, thinking about it now doesn't help."

"We'll deal with it when we get to the bridge."

Splashing their faces with the cold sea water, they both refreshed themselves and decided to temporarily set aside the issue.

The matter of what to do afterward could wait.

After all, they couldn't rebel against the system's tyranny. As travelers with no human rights, they had no choice but to follow orders.

For them, the most important thing now was to decide on a general plan and direction for their actions in this world.

They had already checked the system's tasks earlier, and the main and side quests they received were the same.

This meant they could act together instead of separately.

This was very beneficial for planning.

"What are we going to do next?" Kaguya Yamai asked.

"The main quest has us known as Berserkers among Devils and Devil hunters, and the side quests have us fight Devils and the Gun Devil. It looks like we'll be focusing on combat in this world." Yuzuru Yamai thought aloud. "We should join a country's Devil hunter organization and find a strong backing. Otherwise, we might be targeted by many people."

In this world where both humans and Devils coexist, a profession called Devil hunters had been created to protect people.

Some relied purely on strength or modern technology, while others made contracts with Devils willing to coexist with humans. Regardless of the method, they all had the power to counter Devils and protect their country and people.

Being able to maintain social stability amidst constant Devil attacks showed that Devil hunters were no weaklings.

If they were targeted, even if their lives weren't at risk, they wouldn't have peace.

"Ugh... I just wanted to ask whether we should go find food to make dinner, or find a suitable place on this island to sleep," Kaguya Yamai coughed awkwardly. "But if you want to talk about that, I agree with your idea. It's best if we join the human camp. This way, the task will go smoothly."

Although their true identity was that of spirits, their life forms and power system were unrelated to Devils or anything like that, there were no spirits in this world.

In the logic of this world, their strength was too great, so they couldn't be seen as humans, and would be considered Devils instead.

There were many types of Devils in this world—some were terrifying monsters, some were mutated animals, but there were also Devils who appeared human and looked just like ordinary people.

Thus, if they showed their strength, it was highly likely that they would be mistaken for Devils who looked like humans.

"So, which country should we go to?" Kaguya Yamai asked. "The system placed us on this deserted island, so it means it doesn't want to force us into any camp but is leaving the decision to us, right?"

"What about America? According to the plot, the Gun Devil will be summoned there," Yuzuru Yamai suggested. "We can intercept it after it's summoned, and that way we'll complete the third side quest."

"This world's America is unclear. There don't seem to be high-level Devil hunters there in the original story, so we won't be able to fully utilize our advantage," Kaguya Yamai shook her head. "The Soviet Union and China are better options; at least we'll meet some old acquaintances."

"If that's the case, isn't Japan the best choice? We'll meet old acquaintances and we can fully utilize the advantage of knowing the plot."

"If we can go to Japan, I'd love to, but there's Makima there, and I don't dare go."

Hearing this name, Kaguya Yamai fell silent.

Makima—the Devil of Control, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from Hell.

Her power was self-evident, but the scariest thing about her was her innate ability as a Devil: Control.

As long as Makima believed she was stronger than others, she could control anyone she deemed weaker—whether human, Devil, or even corpses.

Once controlled by her, it was like becoming her possession; not only would they be brainwashed into loyal slaves, but their will to resist would also disappear. They would willingly devote the rest of their lives to her.

Going to Japan and encountering Makima would undoubtedly be like sending oneself to their death.

"But actually… it's not impossible to go."

Yuzuru Yamai seemed to have thought of something and said thoughtfully, "Makima's ability can control anyone she deems weaker. So, all we need to do is make her believe we're stronger than her, and we can ignore her control ability."

"Well, we're already quite strong compared to other spirits. In terms of combat power, we shouldn't be weaker than Makima, right?"

"Maybe, but we can't take the risk. Once she controls us, we're done for."

"Then, the only thing left for us to do is one thing."

The two sisters looked at each other, seemingly thinking of the same thing.

They said in unison:

"Let's create a few big headlines."
