The white van slid through the streets like a bar of soap, with Chen Ke staring at the rearview mirror and driving with all his might.
To dodge the abandoned vehicles on the street, he swerved onto the sidewalk, smashing wooden benches and tables from street-side restaurants into pieces.
Having driven only 100 meters, he heard a muffled thud on the roof, followed by the vehicle beginning to shake.
Chen Ke knew something from above had landed on them; without paying it much attention, he continued to focus on driving.
Sam held his gun, unsure whether to stick his head out of the window to shoot; he didn't even know what to shoot at.
"Get ready, Sam," Chen Ke yelled.
"Ready for what? What am I supposed to shoot at?" Sam asked nervously.
Before Chen Ke could answer, Sam found the answer himself, something in the sky, attracted by the white van, split off and dove toward them.
