Rayne carried two boxes while Julian carried the other two. They walked down the staircase and to their SUV with the old man.
"I never got your name", said Rayne as she placed the boxes in the trunk of the car.
"Adam", he replied.
She reached into her backpack and pulled out a small sandwich, "Here you go Adam, I hope it's to your taste".
This was the first time the old man showed a look of surprise on his face. He looked at her outstretched arm and the sandwich wrapped in plastic wrap that she was holding.
"For me?", he asked again, gulping slightly.
Rayne smiled, "Yes! Don't worry, I have more! You mentioned that you haven't eaten in a while, please have this."
After a few moments, Adam extended his arms to accept the food. He held the sandwich as if it was a brick of solid gold with shaky hands.
"I don't remember the last time I saw a sandwich. Thank you", he said quietly.
