Chapter 145 - Interview at Salman Farsi Primary School

Three days had passed since Maryam and Ayesha's conversation about finding a job. Ayesha, keeping her promise, had contacted a friend and arranged an interview for Maryam at Salman Farsi Primary School. The principal, Mrs. Beenish Tahir, was looking for a dedicated teacher for Grade 1, and Ayesha believed Maryam would be a perfect fit.

On the morning of the interview, Maryam woke up early, feeling both excited and nervous. She chose a modest yet professional outfit—a long blue tunic with white trousers and a matching hijab. After performing her morning prayers, she stood before the mirror, taking a deep breath.

"You can do this, Maryam," she whispered to herself before heading to the kitchen.

Ayesha was already there, preparing breakfast. "All ready for your big day?" she asked with a warm smile.

Maryam nodded, sitting down for a quick bite. "I'm a little nervous, but I'll manage. Thank you for setting this up, Ayesha. I really appreciate it."

"No need to thank me! You are more than capable. Just be yourself, and InshaAllah, everything will go well. Now, finish your breakfast, or you'll be late."

After finishing her meal, Maryam gathered her documents, slipped on her shoes, and headed to the school. The bright morning sun cast a golden glow over the city streets as she walked towards the bus stop. After a short ride, she arrived at Salman Farsi Primary School.

The school building was a simple yet well-maintained structure with a large playground in front. Children ran around, their laughter filling the air. At the entrance, a security guard greeted her. "Assalamu Alaikum. How can I help you, sister?"

"Wa Alaikum Assalam. I'm here for an interview with Principal Beenish Tahir."

The guard nodded and pointed towards the administrative block. "Go straight and take the second door on the right."

Maryam walked in, her heart pounding slightly. She knocked on the door marked 'Principal's Office' and waited. A calm yet firm voice responded, "Come in."

She stepped inside to find a middle-aged woman in a navy-blue blazer sitting behind a neat wooden desk. Mrs. Beenish Tahir had a warm yet authoritative presence. She gestured to the chair in front of her. "Please, have a seat."

Maryam smiled politely and sat down. "Thank you for seeing me today, ma'am."

Mrs. Beenish glanced at her resume. "So, Maryam, tell me about your educational background and any previous teaching experience you have."

Maryam took a deep breath and began explaining her journey, carefully choosing her words. She spoke about her studies at Saint Michael Religious Academy, her passion for education, and her strong desire to guide and nurture young minds. She was honest about not having formal teaching experience but emphasized her ability to connect with people and her willingness to learn.

Mrs. Beenish listened attentively, occasionally nodding. "That's good to hear. We need teachers who not only educate but also inspire young students. Teaching Grade 1 means you'll be responsible for all subjects and staying with the same class throughout the day. Are you comfortable with that?"

Maryam smiled. "Absolutely. I love working with children and helping them grow."

The principal leaned back in her chair, observing Maryam thoughtfully. "Your academic background is strong, and I can sense your sincerity. But tell me, why do you want to become a teacher?"

Maryam hesitated for a moment before answering, "I believe education is the most powerful tool to change lives. I want to contribute to shaping young minds, instilling confidence in them, and helping them become better individuals. I know how much a teacher can impact a student's life, and I want to be that positive influence."

A small smile appeared on Mrs. Beenish's face. "That's exactly the kind of mindset we need in our school." She extended her hand. "Welcome to Salman Farsi Primary School, Teacher Maryam. You are hired."

Maryam's eyes widened in surprise and joy. "Really? Thank you so much!"

Mrs. Beenish chuckled. "You will start tomorrow. Be here by 7:30 AM. You'll be meeting your class and receiving your schedule then. Our staff is supportive, so don't hesitate to ask for help."

Maryam stood up, shaking the principal's hand. "I promise to give my best. Thank you again for this opportunity."

With a heart full of gratitude, Maryam left the office and made her way back home. As she walked, she felt a new sense of purpose. This was her chance to start fresh, to build a future she could be proud of.

When she arrived at Ayesha's house, she found Ayesha in the living room with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Samina.

Ayesha looked up and immediately sensed the excitement in Maryam's eyes. "So, how did it go?"

Maryam grinned. "I got the job! I start tomorrow!"

Ayesha clapped her hands together. "Alhamdulillah! I knew you would get it. I'm so proud of you!"

Mrs. Samina smiled warmly. "That is wonderful news, beta. May Allah bless your journey."

Khadija, Ayesha's daughter, ran up to Maryam. "Are you going to be a teacher now?"

Maryam picked her up with a smile. "Yes, and I will have many little students just like you!"

The rest of the evening was filled with joyful conversation. Ayesha prepared a special dinner to celebrate, and Maryam felt truly welcomed as part of their family. For the first time in a long while, she felt at home.

As night fell, she sat by the window in her room, gazing at the moonlit sky. A new journey awaited her, one filled with hope and possibilities. She whispered a silent prayer of gratitude and prepared herself for the new chapter in her life.

Tomorrow, she would step into the classroom—not as a student, but as a teacher.
