Later in the day, around past 3 pm., the hospital room was quiet, save for the soft beeping of the monitors.
Lena sat beside Ryan, scrolling through her phone, her fingers absentmindedly tapping the screen.
The afternoon sun cast a golden glow through the curtains, giving the space a calm ambiance.
Then, Ryan stirred.
Lena's eyes snapped to him immediately, her phone slipping from her hands onto her lap. She watched as his eyelids fluttered open, and he let out a low groan.
Without hesitation, she leaned forward, helping him sit upright.
"How are you feeling?" she asked softly, adjusting the pillow behind his back for better support.
Ryan exhaled, running a hand through his slightly disheveled hair.
"Better, I guess." His voice was still a bit hoarse. He blinked a few times, as if clearing the fog from his mind, before his eyes met hers. "Where is everybody?"
"They left a while ago. But they'll be back later," Lena replied.
