"No," replied the man, his voice almost as cold as mine. "But that doesn't mean I haven't survived worse."
"I can promise you; you haven't survived worse than me," I said, pulling the lollypop out of my mouth. It was a licorice-flavored one that I hadn't had before, but it was pretty good. I was actually impressed.
Mind you, it still wasn't as good as banana, but then again, nothing was.
"Enough," sighed a new female voice. At the sound of her voice, the man stiffened for a second, his eyes burrowing into me as if trying to figure out if he could take me out or not. The easy answer was that he couldn't, but I was more interested in the shift of attitude.
"Come on, Colt. You've properly marked your territory, but we don't want trouble. Besides, the poor girl is freezing! We have plenty of space for them to crash for the night." The woman who appeared next to the man smiled at me… almost welcoming.
But that was impossible, right?
