On the morning of Faith Alden's 18th birthday, the world changed.
Her alarm sounded at precisely 6am, as it did so every morning, Faith rolled over with a deep groan and rubbed the sleep from her tired eyes.
"Ergh, damn late shifts." She mumbled as she swung her legs from the small bed that doubled as the living room couch.
Ever since her father's accident a few years prior they had been forced to downsize and with her mother acting as his full time carer now that he was wheelchair bound, it was only Faith who could add to their meagre earnings.
Being under the age of 18, she had, to this date, only been able to take limited shifts at both a newsagents during the day and an electric fuelling station at night. The latter being a recent installation to the city, in a bid to reduce emissions, the use of fossil fuels had greatly declined, whilst the efficiency of electric vehicles significantly increased.
