As Love lay back in her bed her mind was filled with the story that Ezra had told her of his past. She had already assumed that he had been born before the Last War, but she never would have guessed that he was both born a human and turned against his will.
Her previously good mood was now in tatters. She felt as though she had become privy to a dangerous crime, the punishment for which she was wholly uninformed.
What if that punishment was to eradicate the creation, its maker and any party who knew of its existence?
Love rubbed her face in frustration. Damn vampire politics - what bullshit.
And then there was Ezra himself.
She dropped her hands from her face and stared up at the dark ceiling. In her eyes he had looked so - vulnerable. Almost human, when he spoke of his fiancee and of his despair when he first came to know that he was dying and then again when he realised what he'd become and that he would be doomed to outlive not only her, but everyone he ever knew.
