I scrolled through Isabella's messages so many times I could probably recite them backward in my sleep.
The news isn't in her favor, things keep sliding down for her and I can't even tell what exactly might be running in her thoughts right now.
She lives her job so much she valued it, and even ready to die for it just one mistake landed her in this trouble:
I sat in my office with the city's noise bleeding faintly through the windows, the room around me too polished, too sterile for the mess spinning inside my head.
Her suspension… it still felt unreal. Like if I blinked hard enough, I'd wake up and find her at her desk, smirking at my suits or calling me a traitor with that fire in her voice.
My phone buzzed sharply against the glass table. I picked it up to see it was an Unknown number.
I didn't need to check twice. Only one person used burner lines like clockwork.
I answered with a quiet, "Yeah?"
