Summary:
Celebration ... with CORN! ... And suffering, but mostly CORN!
Pearl double checked the list. Star had gathered the entire group to set up Eclipsa's official coronation as queen, and thus, put Pearl in charge of inspections. "Alright, how are the pyrotechnics going?" For the show.
"Away from Amethyst and Ruby." Steven gave her a thumbs up.
"Good. And the speech check?" Nobody trusted Eclipsa to not incriminate herself.
"Revised five times over." Marco noted with a fist raised in the air. "Thank you, A plus in grammar."
"Security detail?" There were way too many threats out there to take it lightly.
"Already stopped three would-be snipers." Bismuth, out of the bubble and a part of the team again, with a thankfully smooth transition thanks to Star and Steven, announced.
"Perfect, and the queen herself?" A person to keep watch at all times.
"Lost her for a few minutes … had to tackle her into a dress." Amethyst said, sporting bruise marks.
"It's my coronation, why can't I wear something less frilly?" The queen of darkness fidgeted as she stiffly moved in her red and yellow dress.
"You can dress however you want any other time of the year." Moon said as she adjusted the crown on Eclipsa's head. "Looking like a proper queen for one day of your life won't be the end of-"
"Do not say that!" Star shouted, pointing out at her mother. "We are not tripping on any special phrases or flags, we are going to be respectful and peaceful to the universe, I have already given offerings." She gestured to a small shrine. "This is going off normally, alright?"
"Isn't she going a little overboard?" She whispered to Steven.
"We just want one event to go normally, especially when Star promised this would be the 'final' time she helped Eclipsa." Steven explained. "And between this and the Rose thing, I'm ready to wrap things up myself around here."
"Which is why I'm sparing no expense!" Star brought out an oversized list that she would have expected Marco to have. "I had Mom and every friend I know that can cook make a bunch of stuff to pacify petty citizens…"
"I swear." Moon came by, looking pissed. "Anne and Lars are the only decent cooks around here." Marco gave a sigh, slumping from the offhand comment.
"..I got the best musical accompaniment I can find to keep everyone entertained.."
"So music plays out of nowhere for you too when you sing?" Steven asked Phineas as the two tuned their instruments.
"Actually it's played by those guys." He pointed to a group of human musicians, who screamed 'scatter' the moment they were spotted. "They're really shy though, so they only do it when no one's looking."
"..I got the entire stage surrounded by the strongest people I know…."
"Ditto one, do you have eyes on the target?" A Splixson spoke into a walkie talkie.
"Ditto three, this is Ditto one, I have eyes on the man with the smoothie, ready to intercept."Gwen proceeded to walk up to the alien next to them, wacking it in the head. "Ow!"
"…And we have the Commission pacified." Star finished, pointing to the trio.
"And eenie meenie … you'll one day have a beautiful wife." Mabel said, playing with a piece of folded paper next to Rhombulus.
"Yes! … But will she love me?" The crystal man asked.
Hekapoo scoffed at that, lazily turning her head to rock the fussy Meteora's crib. "There there, little one …"
"Gaaah.." The baby herself reached out her hands affectionately towards the pale demon, who surprisingly smiled at the hybrid.
"Wow, I thought Marco was the brainiac organizer." Kelly commented with a light snort.
"Meh, Star's surprisingly smart when she's motivated." Ruby noted. "Wait a minute … aren't we missing one?" She asked. "Omnitraxus?"
"I'm here." The cosmic entity spoke, standing on the sideline while clutching their skull. "Just currently processing the latest interference in space time … since I'm not allowed to do anything about it now." The void of space glared at Steven.
"I didn't ask for the job! It's not my fault!"
"Well, I'll work with two out of three." Star said. "The point is that we focus on everything, and make sure this actually goes off."
They heard running, watching Sean come to the group, exhausted and panting. "Finally." Hekapoo scoffed. "Did you get lunch?"
"Glo … glo …" He tried getting out, falling to his knees in exhaustion.
"Oh, don't tell me Glossaryck's using our lunch as a fort again." Rhombulous grunted.
"No, that's next week." The blue man spoke, next to a boiling pot. "This week is soup."
"Okay … then what-" Pearl was interrupted as the secretary finally got his second wind.
"Globgor escaped!!" The entire backstage became very, very quiet as everyone dropped what they were doing.
"... Steven." Star said quietly, black veins forming. "Bubble me now." It was difficult to figure out what was the bigger threat to their lives right now.
========================================================================
Rhombulus waited a whole five minutes as 'Dark Star' rampaged inside of the bubble, ranting silent screams and causing negative explosions, before she finally calmed down, signaling to be released. " Okay, I got most of the anger out of me for the moment. I'll save the rest for later."
"Cool, cool …" Rhombulus nodded as he aimed his snake arms at the queen of darkness. "Am I freezing her now or do we wanna hear some last words … What's the situation here?"
"Don't just start firing your crystals at me, I'm just as surprised as everyone else!" The Queen tried to defend herself.
"Oh sure, like anyone else would want to actually free the almighty prince of darkness." He said rhetorically. "Not to mention could."
"I've been on the stage the entire morning running from Amethyst." Eclipsa continued.
"And they admitted to there being moments of people not seeing you." He argued back.
"Let's not get too trigger happy." Omnitraxus spoke, surprisingly not on board with attacking Eclipsa. "There are technically four people that managed to break Rhombulus's crystals."
"Wait, your being serious here?" Rhombulus question. He figured getting the queen on ice would be the first thing on all the Commission's mind.
"Just want to get all the possibilities out of the way." He clarified. "One of us has to be thorough … so first up, Solaria, and by extension anyone with the Spellbook."
"And Eclipsa is the current holder." Marco Diaz continued.
"I'm telling you, it wasn't me!" Eclipsa shouted once again. "Star, you know I didn't do it, I didn't pull the chicken's string!"
"While I don't completely trust you right now … I do feel you would have already warped out of here if you freed him personally." Star muttered.
"Next up … Rhombulus." Omni turned at him! "It wouldn't be the first time you let someone from your crystals go free."
"Oh do NOT tell me this is another cry for 'i'm important' damn it." Hekapoo complained.
"It's not, I swear!" He cried out. "I'm still picking up the mess from …" Rhombulus noticed something from behind a box. "The nipple demon … who I have no idea where they're at …" He slowly moved over. "Or what they may be doing-AHA!" He shot the figure, who jumped into the rafters.
"Nice try Rhombulus, your bad acting has failed you once again!" Shouted the Shoulder Demon. "Soon Lord Nipple will rule supreme, and create an army of-"
He was interrupted by a black and white creature that jumped on him, multiplying as it dogpilled the demon and began to hold him down. "Heck yeah, score ten for Ditto!"
"…Anyways." Omni kept going as if he didn't just accuse his own brother of treason. "Next would be Glosseryck." That led to five uncomfortable minutes where they all stared at the genie, who was in his soup like it was a jacuzzi.
"Do I have something on my face?" They asked with an annoyed look, rubbing off some soup, and then slurping it up.
"... Let's be honest." Kelly said. "Do any of us think Glossaryck would go through the effort of doing anything for anybody?"
"Yeah, that indicates he would actually care about somebody for once." Steven and him shared a quiet high five for that.
"And the final accusation …" The cosmic being turned to Steven. "The Rose Guard."
"Ahahahahaha.." Star and the rest of her friends laughed. "Aha…wait, are you being serious about this?"
"We don't know how, but there was one time we got really angry at one another." Hekapoo said. "So Rhombulus froze her, Glossaryck was laughing about us 'fucking up', we thought he was joking, she flexed out of her prison … then glared at us." She shivered.
"It was horrifying." Rhombulus said, gazing at his snake hands. "There wasn't any concept of space or time … it was just an endless void of hot scorching pink." For some reason the gang all flinched at that … did they know something?
"We honestly have no idea how she did it, but the point remains that she DID manage to break out of the crystal prison." Omni proceeded to turn to his gem buddy. "So it's not a stretch to say that her son is capable of the same feat."
"Oh come on, after Rhombulus gave me the speech, I was on his side about not freeing the guy!" Steven argued.
"So you're saying you never interacted with the crystal or Globgor in any way, shape, or form?" Hekapoo asked, focusing her attention on the boy.
"Leave the boy alone! No matter how many centuries go by, you still remain the same pig headed fools!" Eclipsa accused.
"I mean, it's obviously Eclipsa!" Rhombulus argued. "She was his lover!"
"And the boy that can't control his powers is another problem!" Hekapoo shouted back.
"Are you … defending her!?" He asked in outrage.
"Oh, says the guy obviously covering for his 'gem buddy'."
"At least my friend isn't some super witch that clearly rather see us all dead!" Rhombulous pointed a snake filled fist in her face. "How do we know that you're not covering for anything!? You disappear for years in your dimension! How do we know you're still on our side!?"
"So have they ever been this … divided?" He could hear the Marco kid ask the gems.
"They've always argued like little kids before, but this is something else." Sapphire muttered in response. "They've never accused each other of treason."
"Alright, enough of this!" Star shouted, interrupting their debate. "I am going to go hunt down Globgor and drag him back here, the rest of you divide between stopping the Commission from doing something stupid, and figuring out what really happened."
"Mystery twins are on the case!" The pair of human twins announced simultaneously.
"We still have all of Mewni waiting on us." Steven pointed to the unopened curtains..
"Then stall them." She said, growing golden wings and flying off with a blast of energy.
The half gem looked at the flying star, then at his hands. "Alright, let's try some songs, see if that buys us some time."
"Are you sure we should be letting one of the suspects on stage?" Omnitraxus asked.
"The last thing Steven would try to do is run away from a problem." Rhombulous reminded them. "Why do you think he keeps getting overwhelmed by them?"
"Yeah, he's definitely not leaving Mewni." Kelly responded. "Not until this shitshow of a coronation finally works out."
========================================================================
Globgor had to run, far far away. So far that no one would focus on his family. He needed to keep them safe, being around them brought danger. He needed to move faster.
If he could re-crystalized himself he would, if he could seal himself up in the deepest, darkest, most isolated chamber in the universe, he'd jump in it without a second thought.
But that wasn't an option here, not when his family for the first time, for the first FUCKING time in their lives, we're able to live decently and happily as long as he was sealed. So he needed to get away, lead them on a wild goose chase so the others would have a chance at living. Nothing would stop him from protecting his family.
"Hey, Globgor!" A voice shouted. "Stand down or I'll blast you!" Well that was fast.
"Leave me alone!" He shouted back at what looked like a giant golden Butterfly.
"I can't really do that at the moment!" His leg was hit with a searing pain from a laser the Butterfly shot at him. "You need to come with me!"
"No! If I come with you, the Mewmans will know I'm free and freak out!" He argued, shifting to rodent size and hiding himself within the trees. "And when Mewmans are scared, they get angry, and then they'll attack my family just like last time!"
"The Commission is already doing that!" The giant butterfly girl shifted through the branches to sniff him out. "Right now they're in a heated debate to either crystalize Eclipsa or my brother, and I'd prefer it if neither of them go through that." She gave out a large frustrated sigh. "You met him, right? Steven Universe, when he helped Eclipsa talk to you?"
"Steven?" He paused, slowly getting out from his hiding spot. "So … it's already too late …" Globgor let out a few tears. "For the first time everyone's genuinely happy, and I fuck it up." Globgor sat down on a broken log. "I make everyone's lives worse just by existing."
"Hey now, don't go that hard on yourself, I've heard enough of that talk from my brother." The girl floated right beside him and patted his back. "And it wasn't exactly as peachy keen as you're making it out to be. Things were sort of falling apart already." The girl sighed. "I just asked for one day, just one day, but apparently that's too much to ask from the universe."
"Yeah … maybe it's just a thing." He said. "Happy endings might just be a myth."
"Probably … but we try and make it happen anyway." She patted his back. "Come on, let's go argue with the Magic High Commission to not lock you guys away."
"Pretty sure that's impossible." He reasoned. "Everyone on Mewni hates me."
"No, that's just the adult Mewmans … I have a plan of sorts for the Commission." The girl smirked. "Just as long as you don't plan on eating anybody…you don't plan on doing that, right?"
"Sure … but if anyone plans on stabbing my wife or setting my baby on fire, all bets are off." He demanded.
"Fair enough. If my brother gets hurt, I'd probably read Skywyne's spell and blow this whole universe apart."
"Family can bring out both the best and worst parts of ourselves." The prince of darkness admitted with a chuckle.
"Ain't that the truth." The girl agreed. "One more thing." She turned to him. "Make sure … Eclipsa … doesn't say anything."
He waited a few seconds for an explanation, before sighing. "Is she still incriminating herself?"
"Constantly. She was so bad at keeping her mouth shut we had to plead her case by mistrial." The girl groaned. "Looking out for her is practically my career at this point." He would really have to make it up to her later. "Hopefully Steven managed to hold off the crowd."
========================================================================
"Don't start, unbelieving!" Once again, her brother didn't fail to disappoint in the music department as he, Phineas, Ferb, and that vampire lady friend Kelly met while she was gone, performed on stage, the crowd going wild with roars of applause and glow sticks waving everywhere. "Never don't not feel your feelings!"
She snuck backstage, slowly bringing the shrunken Globgor behind her. "Alright, remember, we need to stay behind the curtains." She said, "The moment a mewman sees you there will be a full blown panic-"
CREEK
"... Globgor … what was that?" She asked, afraid to look up.
"That would be the rod holding up the curtain cracking above us."
"Of course it is." Star moaned as the curtain fell, revealing the commission and her family arguing back and forth with each other like a bunch of children while the actual children were still looking for clues for all of Mewni to see.
"I'm telling you freezing Eclipsa's solves everyone's problems!" Rhombulous shouted.
"Oh yeah, and let my-her baby grow up all evil and vengeful again and kill us all on a magic fueled rampage!" Looks like she was spot on with the Heckapoo sympathy angle.
"Wait, what was that about 'my'?" Eclispa asked in confusion.
"We are not gonna crystalize Steven, we all know he didn't do it, and on the off chance we do freeze him, Moon and Eclipsa will just break them out!"
"He does make a valid point." Mom noted.
"We could freeze them both to be sure, just like the nipple demon." They all stared at Omnitraxus. "I'd like to see you come up with a better alternative."
"Guys!" Star shouted to everyone, getting their attention as they were finally made aware of the situation. "You're making us all look bad!"
There was an awkward and horrified silence that filled the stadium, nobody daring to make a single move. Steven grabbed the mic once more. "Don't start, ubelievi-"
"No, no it's not gonna fix the problem." Anne patted the boy's shoulder. "The power of music can't solve anything today.
"It's Globgor!" A Mewman elder shouted.
"We're all gonna die!" A woman shouted.
"We knew that queen was evil, let's freeze them both!" A man argued, raising a pitchfork.
"Okay, before we go any further, Marco, Twins, any progress?" She pointed to the investigation team."
"Surprisingly, no." Marco said with absolute bafflement. "We have multiple pieces of contradictory evidence."
"Rhombulus was right about being on thin ice, so it turns out Hekapoo trained one of her crows to spy on the guy twenty four seven." Mabel noted, petting the bird in question. "He never even entered the monster temple today."
"And we checked Glossaryck's pages too." Dipper noted. "There was a binding spell in case she got tempted, so Eclipsa wouldn't have been able to read the spell whatsoever."
"Most confusingly, the chicken that was needed to complete the crystal annihilation spell never had its beak untied." Pearl clarified.
"So it definitely wasn't Rhombulus or Eclipsa." Hekapoo noted. "That just leaves …" She got defending Eclipsa for Meterora's sake, but why was she so eager to pin it on her brother.
"Hold up, before we get up in arms about blaming Steven, he was practicing with us all day to get the performance right." Phineas chimed in. "Our guitars double as cameras, so you can check them if you want."
"So … it really was Glossaryck?" Luz asked, staring at the blue genie snoring on the ground.
"Whether it was or wasn't, I think we're all forgetting the most important element here." Time for Star's master plan. "Who cares!?"
"Huh?" Steven tilted his head.
"Wha?" Ruby and Saphire said at the same time.
"Say wha?" Mom looked like her eyeballs would roll onto the floor.
"Come again?" Omnitraxus looked floored.
"What?" The crowd asked.
"Globgor is a man with plenty of rage issues, but can deal with it the same way Tom did." She pointed to the boy in question, sitting next to his father and mother in the audience. "Anger management classes. Also the whole Shastican debate was, while overkill, completely justifiable when it came to the man who got rid of his baby … no offense, Princess Spider-bite!"
"None taken!" Said princess shouted as she stood up holding the hand of her Monster boyfriend. "When family gets involved, things get messy!"
"So if it was Steven, it was just accidental powers of the Rose Guard in action. If it was Eclipsa, it was just for family, and she's more than happy to take the fall if it means he and Meteora are happy. If Rhombulus did it, then the Commission is made up of a bunch of cheating jerks, and we already knew that."
"Fair point, they did lie for over a hundred years." One member of the crowd recalled.
"And if Glossaryck did it … who cares, the guy is an asshole." She waved off. "And does it even matter if he's free, he's not gonna harm anyone as long as he's left alone."
"But he's a monster!" A mewman in the back shouted.
"Yes, yes I am!" Globgore got in front of the audience, and bowed his head. "I may hold anger for what Mewni did to my family, but I've still committed crimes against your people. If it puts everyone at ease, I will go back into the crystal." The crowd began to cheer at that, much to Star's inner frustration.
"No!" A shout from the crowd was announced from the audience, and standing up was..her dad? She almost forgot about him in all of this mess. "Globgore may be a monster, but he is also a father, sacrificing his own happiness for the sake of his family!"
Eclipsa tepidly walked over to the monster, teary eyed while holding onto their kid. "Not quite the reunion I imagined." Eclipsa joked hollowly.
"I get to see my darkest star holding up my brightest light..I couldn't have pictured anything more perfect." Globgore wiped away the tears and rubbed a gentle claw on Meteora. "Hello, my sweet fang. It's me…it's papa."
"Wow...he almost acts mewman." Another voice in the crowd said as the murmuring continued.
"Please, my citizens." Moon walked up to the stand. "I am no longer your queen … but I ask that you please trust in your own judgment. Monsters have been around the kingdom for ages, you're sitting next to them right now!"
They began looking around. "But you told us they were horrible and untrustworthy!"
"I did, but I was wrong." She lamented. "My mother, Comet Butterfly was not killed by a monster … she was killed by a man lost in rage and pride …" Mom broke down in tears as Star and Steven held her up. "I held onto that same pride and rage, and it almost cost me my entire family. It's only by the understanding of my son, and the patience of my daughter that I was brought up on it. I even met a monster I consider a friend, a loyal man who loves and adores his children as I do mine." She pointed to Buff Frog in the crowd with all his little frog babies.
"As long as my children grow up happy and free, I can settle for the hate derived from myself." He shrugged.
Eclipsa was about to say something, only for Globgor to place a finger on her lips. "Please dear, don't speak. I promised Star I won't let you incriminate yourself." With that Star already forgave him of every crime he's ever committed.
"... Is she right?" The mewmans were questioning themselves … was this it!?
"I'm friends with people of all kinds!" Steven announced. "Monsters, Mewmans, aliens, dragons, demons, amphibians, witches, ninja, a walking pumpkin and watermelon, woolets, humans, titans, gods, living concepts, that one guy living under the floorboards of this stage!"
"Hello!" A hand waved from the cracks.
"... Who's adventure was that from?" Marco asked, only to get shrugs from the group.
"Yes, we have our differences, but we do share so many other things in common!" Star joined her brother. "We all feel love, fear, sadness, joy, passion, and all those other messy emotional junk! We all want our families to be safe, and we all want to be free to be happy above all else!"
"I can't believe I was the one to eventually shout this." Kelly chuckled, walking forward. "Let's give peace a chance!"
"Give peace a chance!" Luz chanted walking up with them.
"Give peace a chance!" Marco, Finn, and the mcduck kids shouted.
"Give peace a chance!" The Mewman crowd chanted with them…this was it…this was ACTUALLY happening! "Give peace a chance!"
"Steven." Star gave a small smile. "I think we finally did-" She was interrupted as space and time warped around them, a ball of black endlessness sucking all within it opening from behind them.
"I've had enough of you two getting in my way!" Omntraxus growled out. "Maybe I can finally get rid of this headache once I suck away this entire stage!"
The black ball got bigger, and bigger, and bigger…until a pair of scissors split it in half and dissipated it. "Omni…WHAT THE FUCK do you think you're doing!?"
"My job!" He shouted back. "What about you?"
"Making sure you don't kill everyone here!" Heckapoo yelled. "You 're just about to suck in the entire audience! You would've killed both monster and Mewman alike!"
"Don't you know the ONE rule we have!" Rhombulus shouted in anger. "We don't kill people! Even in self defense, or in the defense of others!" He called out.
"At this point, I feel like my own immortality is a mute point with all the absolute destruction the entire Butterfly family likes to bring upon us." He called back. "We've already died multiple times because of them, what if the next one is it? I'm helping everyone here in the long run!"
"Wait a minute…it was you, wasn't it?!" Star accused the asshole. "You set Globgor free, didn't you!"
"What?" He blinked in confusion.
"You hate my family, if either Steven or Eclipsa got frozen, you'd have something to gain!" Marco caught onto her logic.
"Okay, alright, stop with the nonsense." He waved his hands. "I can't break Rhombulus's crystals, I was trapped inside one, when Steven shot it back at me." The being glared at the boy.
"Unless … you're part of infinity." Steven said with wide eyes. "Endless and variable infinity …"
"I'm sorry, you've lost most of us." Mom spoke with confusion.
"We've heard it from Glossaryck, how he and the universe was made." Kelly announced. "Omni's a literal dimension in of himself that's limited in every other dimension."
"Yeah, connected to the realm of time, anyplace that can connect with other universes." Star realized. "And with infinite options to choose from on how to free Globgor."
"You're being ridiculous!" He shouted. "I have spent the last few years being careful about space and time because everyone ELSE loves to mess it up!"
"Oh really?" Heckapoo glared as she pointed her scissors at the clearly guilty party. "Then you wouldn't mind if we're thorough, as you insisted." She then turned to Eclipsa. "Got any spells that can get us to peak in that head of his?"
"You can do it if you want." Glossaryck pointed out.
"... I'm sorry, what?" The flaming woman asked in confusion.
"You're the physical embodiment of inter-dimensional travel, that includes the realm of minds." He lazily answered.
"Hold on now, don't do anything crazy!" Now the bastard started to sweat. "We're suppose to be on the same side here!"
Hekappo stared at her scissors, then at the waking universe. "... Fuck it, lets see what it can do." And she ended that sentence by stabbing Omnitraxus in the skull, tearing straight down as a portal opened from his brain.
"I am both intrigued and horrified." Marco muttered.
The portal swirled as Heckapoo reached her hand into his head, her eyes glowing white as she held it there for a good minute, before recoiling back. "He did! He grabbed a Rhombulus from another universe to break Globgor out! He wanted him to eat half of everyone here so Mewmans would never trust monsters!"
"The fuck!" Rhombulus asked. "He ruined my good name!"
"The Commission is evil!?" A Mewman shouted.
"Not all of them, just one!" Star flared her wings as Steven glowed pink.
"Once again, never thought we'd say something like that." Marco pointed out as everyone got ready for a fight.
"How could you, Omni!" Rhombulus shouted. The guy was unresponsive, a bit of stardust drooling from his mouth as the portal continued to swirl on his skull.
"Oh yeah, forgot to mention this method of mind reading takes its toll." Glossaryck nonchalantly shrugged. "He should be fine in about a week or so."
"Well it was the first time I ever used it …" Heckapoo looked at the scissors in wonder. "We'll just … take him away, is that cool with everyone?"
"Incredibly so." Steven gave a breath of relief as the two immortals took one of their own away. "We just got saved from a fight…can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm glad Glossaryck is such a neutral jerk."
"A day full of surprises." Star said as she watched the Queen of Darkness reunite with her family. "Hey, so, not to ruin the happy moment, but we still have a coronation…if that's okay with everyone?" She turned to the audience.
"Seems like everyone is shady…screw it, this seems like the least complicated option." A Mewman shrugged. "Give peace a chance!"
========================================================================
"Give peace a chance!" That was the cry of every Mewman and Monster, and Steven couldn't help but shout in joy as Star fought off the tears. "We did it, we finally did it!" Steven twirled his girlfriend around in joy as the two of them laughed and danced
"Take that, years of tradition and prejudice!" Anne shot a fist into the air. "You're no match for youthful spirits and progress!"
"Ahem." Eclipsa cleared her throat as she presented her homemade guitar of rat bones to him. "Mind if you play us out, Steven?"
"I'd be honored, my Queen." He bowed as he took the instrument, the two lovers themselves looking into each other's eyes longingly.
Taking a quick look around at all the smiling joy around him, he played as Eclipsa began to sing. " It's some kind of magic…When we make it through the night." Wasn't that the case? It felt like they got through half their days on miracles alone. If that wasn't magical, Steven didn't know what was.
"It's some kind of magic ….When we face what's wrong or right" Globgor added in with his deep voice, holding onto his wife and twirling her around. Right or wrong seemed like such forign and complex concepts. Back then it was just 'do a crime, you're a bad person'. Now so many things added layers and layers of motivation. You couldn't just beat a bad guy up and have the problem fixed, that was only step one.
"And head to the future." The two began to sing more in unison. " When nothing's quite so clear." Nothing really was anymore. He thought he had his future figured out when he was three, where he would be a brave knight that defended Mewni. Now he had so much more to protect, and so many more ways to do so outside of being a knight.
"But I won't even falter (won't even falter)." They held onto each other, using their bodies as rests. " When it's you I'm with, my dear." As long as you had someone, everything would be fine … Steven sent a smile to Kelly, who returned it with one of her own. He saw from the corner of his eyes that Star and Marco were in the exact same position. Even Ruby and Sapphire looked at each other with those big cutsie eyes. They all had a long journey getting to this point, but Steven didn't regret a single moment of it.
"'Cause all I wanna do…Is stay in Mewni with you.." Steven wanted the same..except he wanted more than just Mewni. He wanted to explore the universe, to see everything that Multiverse had to offer with all his loved ones, friends and family alike.
"And all I wanna see … Is you right here next to me." He turned to Star, smiling with her. After so much effort and trauma, there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel. There was genuine hope for the future.
BOOM
With a thunderous roar, the entire area was blanketed in shadows. Realizing yet another problem was entering his life, Steven groaned and looked up … at the hands … so many hands … and a blue arm in the middle of it all … no.
He could hear nothing but his own heart beating in his ear as all the hands started to point at him, he could feel his vision blurring as a ringing entered his thoughts, the screaming of mewmans crying out as fingers glowed and people shouted. This was it … through some impossible method … Homeworld had found Mewni.
He was taken out of his thoughts by a violent shake of his body, and the voice of Garnet. "STEVEN! SHIELD EVERYONE! NOW!!"
Steven could barely hear the order as he did so, making the biggest shield he could muster as explosions and lasers went off everywhere. He felt his body being hugged by Kelly as the ringing kept going in his ears.
"Everyone with scissors, portal to earth, double time! Everyone without them, evacuate!!" Marco announced as he created a big portal.
"Not everyone's going to be able to make it off dimension…Bismuth, you and I will stay back and rescue everyone we can!" Garnet announced. "Everyone else, get going!"
"I'm staying here!" Eclipsa announced loudly, even as weak as she looked. "I've run away from my duties long enough, I won't do it again!"
"Where you are, I will follow." Globgore affirmed as he handed over Meteora to Star. "Please, keep her safe."
"I will." Star nodded as all their friends headed out Marco's portal. "Steven, we need to go now!"
"No!" Steven shouted. "We just need to get them all in, no one needs to-" He was cut off as the Blue arm rose high, a fist forming … and it went to slam into the shield. Steven strained everything, glowing pink and forming his Mewberty like scales on his body, his giant shield gaining more edges and rougher form … as it cracked under a single strike. He felt that single blow drain almost everything he had. He couldn't save everyone at this rate.
" Steven!" He heard his family cry out for him as he struggled to keep his eyes open. He felt himself getting smaller and weightless as he felt his sister holding onto him.
"If I drop the shield … they'll take us …" Steven could barely muster the strength to say that sentence. The arm raised once more, preparing for another blow.
"I can make one in your place!" Mom made her own magic shield as his faded. "Star, get out of here now!"
The giant arm began to glow blue, the shield dissipating as streams of light transferred from Mom's shield into it. Blue Diamond was powering the ship … Blue Diamond was on Mewni … they couldn't use magic to defend themselves.
"Mom…" he weakly called out to her as his eyes closed, and the sound of a portal closing entered his ears, his sister's grasp on him being his only comfort. They … they lost Mewni.
