'So this is the monster that has been killing everyone!' Lee thought to himself.
To meet them was once in a lifetime experience, but to his bitter regret Lee had to realize, that the sight of the seven and a half feet tall, half naked, muscular man with four arms wasn't the last thing he wanted to see before dying. He much more preferred a quick glance at his beloved, but unfortunately he currently couldn't turn around.
Lee felt Lisa hugging him from behind – apparently she had similar thoughts, but the killing blow didn't follow. The man tilted his head in confusion, and a second later flames on the two blades vanished as if turned off. He sheathed his weapons, and with two hands picked both Lee and Lisa up by their necks, and with the other two began to frisk them.
Lee, seeing the guy dared to touch her intimate spots, loudly cursed and kicked him in the chest, but it felt as if he hit a steel plate. Judging by the pain, he probably fractured a couple of toes, but he didn't care. Luckily his struggle only seemed to amuse the man.
Loudly laughing, he finally let them go, and said something in a strange language. His voice was deep and pleasant and, from the looks of it, he didn't mean any harm. But then he turned serious, said few more words and with all four arms made a motion, indicating they should stay put. Then he pulled out his weapons again and left, on the way glancing back one more time and letting out a burst of laughter while shaking his head.
The whole situation was so bizarre, neither Lee nor Lisa could move for over a minute. Only when they heard a loud shout in the distance followed by the ground trembling, Lee finally reacted. He put on the night vision goggles and slowly crouched towards the tunnel the four-armed man exited through. Lisa followed, keeping her hand on his shoulder to not get lost in the darkness.
Lee didn't know whether it was the intuition that told him it was safe to do so or it was just a childish curiosity. Nevertheless, the sight he saw was worth the risk.
There was no tunnel leading further and the exit was an actual exit to an enormous grotto. It was so huge the goggles didn't allow to see the other side and he could hardly discern how high the ceiling was. The most unbelievable thing, though, was the pyramid built in the middle of it, with the entrance not further than fifty yards away. And in front of it the four-armed guy was currently fighting another person.
Lee knew Lisa would never forgive him if he let her miss the incredible sight, so he whispered, "Wear the goggles. Quickly!"
"What the …" Was the only thing she could exclaim and, similarly to Lee, stared at the fight in disbelief.
Actually they mostly saw only flashes of light, and only from time to time both opponents separated, but to go at each other right after. Watching these monsters Lee realized how laughable his martial arts background was, and there was no training in this world that would allow anyone to achieve what they saw.
And not only regarding the speed. Every time one of the fighters blocked the other's attack, the ground trembled and from the cave's ceiling pieces of rocks fell down. Lee noted that after this they definitely had to go back and collect a couple of those weapons. He doubted there was a publicly known alloy capable of enduring such force, and if he sold it to any country, be it US, China or whatever, the price would be enough for him to live happily till the end of his days.
But then again, this might as well be the last one. They had to find a way to leave first before start making plans for the future. Maybe they could ask the four-armed guy after he won – four hands should be stronger than two, right?
Lisa was thinking in a different direction though. She whispered, "Who the hell are these people? Are they some kind of mutants or super-humans? Or is this a secret government facility?"
"My guess is as good as yours." Lee said, "Let's hope our guy wins."
"What do you think is in the pyramid?" Lisa asked, ignoring his answer.
"The grand finale?" Lee shrugged.
"What?"
"See, the left side seems to have an entrance too. And it looks like there is a person there, but only one. If the pyramid has an entrance on every side, then the four winners will meet in the center for the battle royale, right?"
They watched the rest of the fight in silence, but it didn't last long. As expected, the four-armed man won and he did it in a spectacular fashion – by brutally cleaving his opponent in three pieces.
He wasn't left unscathed though. After the fight was over, he sat down and carefully bandaged one of his hands. Lee had no clue whether it might impact his fighting capabilities since it wasn't one of the sword hands, but he kind of began to root for the big freak, and for some reason wanted him to win.
When the guy finally entered the pyramid, Lisa suddenly began to move towards it, but Lee grabbed her by the hand in confusion.
She couldn't see his expression clearly, but knew what he meant. Nevertheless, she said, "Don't you want to see what the grand prize is?"
"Do you realize we might get fucked there?" Lee said with a sigh. She was adventurous and often reckless, but this wasn't the time to play games.
Lisa disagreed. She said, "Listen, Brandon Lee! The chance for us to get out of here is already minuscule! And even if we do get out, we will never see anything like this in our lives! Do you really want to live a life of regret?"
Even though her arguments sounded reasonable, they were anything but that. It might've been more responsible to look for an exit, and he should've persuaded her to do so, but he really, really wanted to agree with her.
After a brief moment of inner struggle, logic and common sense lost.
"Ok!" Lee said, "But stay behind me!"
The pyramid turned out to not be what they expected, in fact, they didn't even sneak in.
After stealthily getting to one of the entrances, from the inside came a flash of light that for a split moment blinded them. Turns out the light was so bright, their goggles became useless, but the sudden flash wasn't followed by any noise or anything at all for that matter and didn't make any sense.
When Lee's vision adjusted, he saw that the area inside the pyramid, probably in the size of a basketball field, was almost completely empty. In the very middle of it, there was an item that brightly shone, but the light it radiated crated a partially translucent dome, around five, maybe six yards in diameter. Around it, in meditative poses, sat four men, one of which was their four-armed guy.
For a moment Lee thought they were having a ritual of some sorts, but then the hell broke loose. Seemingly without a warning, three of them dashed towards one at the side and, being hit by several weapons at the same time, the guy literally blew up. Obviously, both spectators only saw the aftermath and not the move itself, but the rain of blood was already impressive enough.
After the first guy was dead, two of the remaining ones joined forces, and went against the four-armed man, who welcomed them with a loud laugh. And then the strangest thing happened. The defender and his two blades suddenly lit up in red flames, but it was his own doing and not an attack, and the flames somehow didn't even hurt him.
One of the attackers, from what Lee could discern the rare moments he saw him, gave off a thick green aura that left long, green afterimages whenever he moved. The last one didn't light up in a particular color, but there were purple flashes when he attacked, then disappeared only to appear at a safe spot right after. It was almost like he teleported from place to place, showing up at the four-armed guy's side, then attacking him and then retreating to the distance in an instant.
