The space folded inwardly, distorting with a silent hum before a portal tore open in the waiting room. From its depths, voices echoed ahead of their arrival.
"Put me down, Pyris! I can walk on my own! This is embarrassing!" Selara's indignant voice rang out, sharp with protest.
Pyris' response was calm, unwavering. "You just went through something that would leave even the strongest warriors traumatized for weeks. I'm not letting you strain yourself further."
"That's exactly my point!" she shot back. "Anyone else would've broken, but look at me—I'm perfectly fine—like fucking fine! That only proves my will is stronger than anyone you know!"
"See? Now you're swearing. You're definitely not fine."
"You're being ridiculous!" she huffed in exasperation.
In the waiting room, the gathered women exchanged knowing glances, rolling their eyes in unison. What a display of affection. Was Pyris really feeding them dog food before even stepping through the portal?
