-----------
The group noticed the little note when they came out of the "SCP-513" Containment Chamber, but they did not squat down to see it. However, Vale finished eyeing it and recounted the contents to them so they could recall the details at that moment.
After recalling it, they couldn't help but feel a sense of creepiness. Just imagine walking, eating, going to the bathroom, or even sleeping; there is a strange humanoid monster staring at you eerily from somewhere. It's scary just thinking about it!
"What Vale saw must have been terrifying. Haa, I feel that Vale may have problems next, and there's nothing we can do about it," Kiwo's face was full of worry.
Next to her, Vale was still red, and his mood remained unstable. This condition mirrored the victim's symptoms described in the "SCP-513" file.
RT held Vale's shoulders and said worriedly, "Hold on, Vale."
Vale shook his head vigorously, then patted his head with his remaining hand. "Damnit, what bad luck! Fu*k!"
While cursing, he displayed a timid demeanor; he couldn't help but look around as if worried that someone or something might hurt him.
Seeing this, Brit was also very worried and finally couldn't help but persuade him again: "Vale, why don't you quit the game first? Don't worry about us; at worst, we'll try again!"
Brit was genuinely afraid that Vale would suffer from some kind of mental illness. Of course, even if Brit didn't care, Vale wouldn't take the initiative to quit the game. At critical moments, the protection mechanism would force him to exit the game.
After hearing Brit's words, Vale took a deep breath and replied, "No, I'm still clearheaded. I'll quit when I feel like I can't hold on anymore. Don't worry; let's keep going..."
The others had no choice but to nod in agreement, and then, the group set off.
At the end of the passage under their feet was still a metal door. After opening it, they saw a passage in front of them, but a road extended to the right in the middle.
"Oh, this is like a maze; I'm getting dizzy," Kiwo wailed bitterly.
The others also felt headaches. The map of the Heavy Containment Area felt more complex than the Light Containment Area; it was as if they were playing a maze game now. Even if they were asked to go back the same way, they might not be able to find their way.
Brit sighed and said, "This way, the game will be more difficult; otherwise, there will be too many players who finish the game. Let's take a look at the road ahead first!"
The others had no objections, and the five of them went straight to the metal door at the end. Brit pressed the button and opened the door. As far as the eye could see was a hall, with two metal doors in the middle and corresponding signs on them: [Workspace].
"Wow! We've all made it to the office checkpoint," Kiwo exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise.
The others were equally surprised, as the hall in front of them was indeed the checkpoint hall! Two metal doors led to the third level, which was the office area of this site facility. After arriving at the office area, the players were one step closer to beating the game. However, on the wall between the two metal doors, there was another monitor.
The display showed:
[Checkpoint is locked.]
[SCP-008 Foundation system failure.]
"Sure enough, just as said in the guide, we still have to deal with the failure of the SCP-008, and the checkpoint can only be unlocked after it is resolved," Brit looked at the monitor and said.
The others nodded regretfully, and the excitement of finding the checkpoint had subsided significantly.
"Hey, even if the checkpoint is not locked, these two metal doors cannot be opened with a Level 3 Keycard. According to the guide, they must be opened with a Level 5 Keycard," Brit spoke again.
The group felt even more disheartened. They had finally arrived at the checkpoint, but they could only look and not enter. This situation was depressing.
The five didn't waste much time. Since it was impossible to leave, they could only go back and explore the map of the Heavy Containment Area. They returned to the center of the passage. Turning to the side, they followed a road they had not yet explored, going to the end and opening the metal door.
When the scene behind the door came into view, the five of them collectively froze for a moment. They even squinted their eyes subconsciously because it was so bright in there. During their gameplay, they had never experienced such brightness. And the bright light always brings people a sense of security, even if that sense of security is false.
"This looks like another Containment Chamber," Brit narrowed his eyes and whispered.
The bright space in front of them was a small room. The difference was that there were some electronic devices with no specific function in this room. It seemed to be used for observation. In addition, there were shelves, filing cabinets, desks, computers, and other items in this room.
The group stepped through the door. Because the surrounding environment was so bright, everything could be seen clearly, so they subconsciously relaxed a lot.
After entering the room, the five noticed a red sign on the right wall. When they saw the red sign, their hearts unconsciously raced. Until now, they were almost 100% certain that red signs indicated extremely dangerous SCPs.
"Go see what it is!" Brit said softly and moved to the front of the red sign first, the others following behind.
[SCP-017]
[Object Class: Keter]
"Wow, another Keter class!" Plumbella exclaimed in a low voice, and Brit nodded solemnly.
RT squinted at the sign and said, "But this SCP... why does it look weird? It seems like a mass of black shadows? Huh? It looks somewhat humanoid?"
It wasn't only RT who was confused; even the others felt puzzled. In the picture on the logo, SCP-017 appeared to be a shadowy figure resembling a human. Besides, it seemed to be enclosed in a glass case.
"Let's look around; there should be a file," Brit said, looking around the rest of the room. On top of a low filing cabinet, he noticed a file and quickly walked over to grab it.
The others quickly surrounded him and stared at the file, even Vale was temporarily distracted. His pale face was full of curiosity. As they read, their expressions gradually changed.
[SCP-017, the "Shadow Person"]
[Object Class: Keter]
[Description:
SCP-017 is a humanoid figure approximately 80 centimeters in height, anatomically similar to a small child, but with no discernible identifying features. SCP-017 seems to be composed of a shadowy, smoke-like shroud. No attempt to find any object beneath the shroud has been successful, but the possibility has not been ruled out.
SCP-017's reaction to shadows cast upon it is immediate and swift. SCP-017 leaps at the object casting the shadow and completely envelops it in its shroud, after which it returns to its normal size, leaving no trace of the object behind.]
