Sophia glanced at the mints on the table and apologized, "Sorry, Roger, I can't make it the day after tomorrow."
"Hmm? We can change the day. When are you free?"
"Capone is coming to visit my family the day after tomorrow. I probably won't have time in the next few days." The key issue was how her family would react when meeting Capone. She had to manage both sides' emotions, and she really didn't have the energy to entertain anyone else.
If she met with Roger, she'd be distracted, which would be rude.
Roger seemed to understand. "Sophia, I wish you all the best. As long as you're happy, that's what matters. If you need any help, just let me know!"
His words were sincere, but there was a hint of quiet melancholy.
"Thank you, Roger. I know."
After hanging up, Sophia found herself unexpectedly grateful for Capone's jealousy.
He was right. There was no future between her and Roger, and she shouldn't give him any more expectations or hope.
