Xia Lao Tai woke up cold and hungry, thinking she had slept for a long time.
But the light seeping through the low door gap clearly told her: it was still daytime, and at most, she had slept for only an hour or two. A long time was a far cry from reality.
It also meant she had to wait even longer for someone to come to bring her food and change her diapers.
The problem was that her stomach was already growling with hunger.
After all, though they say three meals a day, it's all just thin soups barely visible with oil, let alone thinking about milk or eggs for nourishment.
Except for the dead, everyone would be hungry.
And although she was paralyzed and unable to move, she was far from dead, wasn't she?
Moreover, her shack was damp and cold, her blanket thin.
So the cold made her hungrier, and hunger made the cold worse… life was unbearably hard every single day, she had no idea how she had made it through.
