Chapter 142 - Chapter 142: The Night of the Massacre – Sasuke Awakens the Byakugan!

Land of Fire.

Konohagakure, Uchiha Clan District.

Night had fallen.

But tonight, the clan's inner courtyard was livelier than usual.

Even though it was just a family banquet, given how much Fugaku valued the Hitoshi brothers, he couldn't afford to be careless.

Besides, this was his chance to show loyalty and officially hand over the Uchiha Clan's ultimate weapon to Hyuga Hitoshi. It had to be done properly.

"Hikari-sama, it's time to bathe and change for the banquet."

A knock came from the side room of the inner residence as a servant softly reminded the girl.

Inside the room, Uchiha Hikari was slumped on the couch, gripping a game controller as she fiercely battled an opponent on the screen.

If one looked closely, the game's title at the top of the screen read "Ninja Storm: Ultimate Battle."

"Yeah, yeah, I'll go after I beat Hyuga Hitoshi!"

Her eyes were locked on the screen, fingers moving rapidly as she tried her best to defeat her opponent. But in the end, she still lost—Hyuga Hitoshi was simply too strong.

"This is so unfair! Since when do ninjas fight by summoning the moon?"

As the game screen shook from the massive celestial body, and her character was completely crushed, Uchiha Hikari felt the game was totally unbalanced.

For a fighting game, this was just ridiculous. Sure, the final boss should be strong, but this was impossible to beat.

Even in a game, nobody could defeat Hyuga Hitoshi.

If you didn't dodge in time, you'd be blasted away by the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion. And even if you managed to dodge, you'd still have to face the follow-up attacks of the Great Serpent Sword and True Several Thousand Hands. Countless players suffered because of this.

But they knew this was reality. The game couldn't even show half of the power of the great Yang God. So they accepted their fate and willingly fell before the final boss.

"Well, I guess the ninja world isn't all bad."

Uchiha Hikari glanced at the huge pile of game discs beside her and grinned. She felt like her life was incredibly fulfilling—eating, sleeping, and gaming. A perfect cycle.

Of course, getting to this level of laziness had come at a cost.

Fugaku had somehow figured out how to deal with this "weapon girl." After noticing Uchiha Hikari's interest in the various technological products developed by the Sun God Kingdom, he began testing the waters.

It started with movies, then moved on to games. Before she knew it, Uchiha Hikari had fallen into the deep abyss of a shut-in lifestyle, unable to escape. To secure her carefree days of food, comfort, and endless gaming, she made a deal with Fugaku.

All she had to do was have dinner with a man named Hitoshi. It was basically a disguised matchmaking meeting. Fugaku repeatedly assured her that it was just a simple meal. Besides, she figured that if she played along, she could probably get Hyuga Hitoshi to build her a bigger gaming room in the future. Maybe even get access to the latest games developed by the Sun God Kingdom.

For the Sun God Kingdom, this wasn't hard at all. And since Hyuga Hitoshi was incredibly strong, he didn't resist the rise of scientific ninja tools. He didn't think they were a bad thing, as long as both civilian and combat-related ninja tools were strictly regulated. That was the only way to prevent chaos.

Technology development also boosted other industries. Games like "Ultimate Storm" were just one part of it, greatly expanding the entertainment scene of the ninja world and contributing to its peace.

Some emotions that had nowhere to go could be vented through these games.

As for whether games would corrupt kids?

Please. A bad kid would still be bad, with or without games. It all came down to proper guidance.

Just use an age rating system.

If a kid gets so obsessed with games that they lose their mind, maybe the parents should consider jumping off a cliff too.

"It's just a meal. It shouldn't be a big deal."

After hesitating for a long time, Uchiha Hikari finally dragged herself up and opened the door, letting the servant—who had been nagging her to get dressed—out.

After a frantic rush, the "weapon girl" was finally delivered to the dining room just before the meal started.

It wasn't exactly what she had imagined.

Uchiha Hikari lifted her gaze to Hyuga Hitoshi, her eyes filled with a mix of caution and curiosity. She examined the man who, according to Uchiha Fugaku, could turn the ninja world upside down.

Well, he did look just like he did in the game. He hadn't artificially enhanced his appearance, which suited her taste. But at the end of the day, a game was still a game. The characters in it always felt a bit stiff.

Seeing Hyuga Hitoshi sitting there, alive and staring straight at her, made her heart race a little.

Fugaku hadn't lied to her about this part.

"So this is the surprise Fugaku prepared for me?"

Just as Uchiha Hikari was sizing him up, he was also looking her over.

"It's just a meal. Hardly a surprise. Kou-senpai doesn't seem too interested in Hitoshi, huh?"

Fugaku burst into laughter and boldly cracked a joke.

"Besides, you know what Hikari-senpai's existence means. Ever since I got that information about the seal, I haven't been able to sleep well. You gotta understand, I'm not scared of thieves stealing, I'm scared of thieves plotting. I know my own limits. If I can't protect something, then I just can't. I don't have any grand ambitions—I just want to live out my days in Konoha peacefully."

And raise his son properly.

Fugaku sighed slightly. He was being honest with Hyuga Hitoshi now, laying everything on the table.

Using Uchiha Hikari's Eight Thousand Spears to unify the ninja world?

What a joke. If that were possible, the Uchiha clan would've conquered the world back in the Warring States period.

Of course, maybe they just never got the chance to use the Eight Thousand Spears back then. Maybe Uchiha Hikari had been sealed before that could happen. But even if, theoretically, Uchiha Hikari could gather everyone's chakra to create some terrifying war machine, Fugaku wasn't willing to take that risk.

The reason was simple. Whether it was Uchiha Hikari's Eight Thousand Spears or any other power, it was unpredictable and unstable.

Meanwhile, Hyuga Hitoshi's strength was straightforward and absolute.

As long as he could summon the moon at will, he was already in an unbeatable position. Worst case? He could drag everyone down with him.

But from what Fugaku could tell, Hyuga Hitoshi's power went far beyond that. Just looking at his calm, composed expression—like everything was under his control—Fugaku knew his instincts were right.

For Fugaku, this was an easy choice.

Do you choose to stay in the Land of Fire, becoming the top leader under one clan, wielding absolute power, and enjoying the convenience of being deeply tied to the Hyuga clan? Or do you take the risk of using the power of the Yachimata Spear, knowing full well that Hyuga Hitoshi doesn't care about it, to create a powerful war machine and fight Hyuga Hitoshi, just to see if you have a chance to establish a Yin God Kingdom for the Uchiha?

Fugaku is a smart man. Looking at all the changes in the Hyuga clan and Hyuga Hitoshi's actions over the years, there's no need to even think about the right choice.

He knows that compared to a few years ago, this man has become even stronger. He doesn't care about Uchiha Hikari's power, nor does he fear the eye techniques of the Yachimata Spear. He is still full of confidence in himself.

And the truth is, that confidence is justified.

Hyuga Hitoshi really doesn't care about so-called ultimate weapons.

The Eight Thousand Spears Spear.

It gathers the chakra of everyone marked with the seal and channels it into a single person or oneself.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Isn't this basically a knockoff version of Infinite Tsukuyomi? No—compared to Infinite Tsukuyomi, which traps everyone in a dream, the Yachimata Spear can actually control the thoughts and minds of those who bear the seal. Even someone like Naruto in the original story couldn't resist its mental manipulation, which led to war.

Hmm… If Infinite Tsukuyomi were activated while integrating the power of the Yachimata Spear, wouldn't that mean absorbing the chakra of the entire ninja world in an instant while also controlling everyone to fight?

That's actually terrifying to think about.

Hyuga Hitoshi withdrew his gaze from the girl and gestured toward the seat beside him.

The power of the Yachimata Spear is impressive, but Hyuga Hitoshi figured there must be some limitations. Otherwise, the villains in the original story would have been truly unstoppable—how could they possibly have been defeated by that idiot Boruto?

Hyuga Hitoshi clearly wasn't worried about someone else taking control of the Yachimata Spear. As long as his people remained under the protection of the Sun God Seal, the Yachimata Spear's marks wouldn't work on them.

But still, if Uchiha Hikari were to be used by the wrong people, it could cause trouble for the Sun God Kingdom. Fugaku was being considerate, and his gesture of goodwill genuinely moved Hyuga Hitoshi.

"Being treated as a weapon isn't a good feeling, is it?"

As Uchiha Hikari sat down, Hyuga Hitoshi spoke casually.

"Fugaku is worried that someone might take you away and use you… or even dig out your eyes. The power of the Yachimata Spear is something a lot of people would want."

"So what are you saying?"

"Are you planning to control me like the Uchiha did back in the Warring States period?"

Uchiha Hikari adjusted her long, waist-length hair and knelt across from Hyuga Hitoshi, looking at him calmly.

She already knew that a peaceful life wasn't something easily obtained. Even if she had more freedom and could enjoy the games she liked, in the end, she was still just a weapon locked away for use.

That's why she hated this world.

"What are you thinking?"

Hyuga Hitoshi saw right through her and let out a small laugh. He stood up and walked over to Uchiha Hikari, then reached out and tapped her forehead.

The black-haired girl, always on guard, reacted instantly. Her Sharingan flashed with the Three Tomoe pattern before quickly shifting into the Mangekyou. Instinctively, she countered Hyuga Hitoshi's move.

Clearly, the only thing that could get through to her right now was gaming—not men.

But when Hyuga Hitoshi's eyes glowed with a mix of golden and blue light, the overwhelming pressure pinned her in place. Then, a gentle force settled on her forehead.

As a golden mark stabilized, Uchiha Hikari felt something new inside her. She took out a small mirror from her robe, looked at her reflection, then bared her teeth at Hyuga Hitoshi in anger.

"What the hell did you do to me?!"

She didn't understand the power of the Sun God Seal, but she could tell it was some kind of control method.

"Hikari, you're really being ungrateful here. Do you know how rare this is? Do you have any idea how many people would kill for the chance to have Hyuga Hitoshi personally mark them with the Sun God Seal?"

Fugaku spoke with admiration.

Honestly, if he weren't the head of the Uchiha clan, he would shamelessly ask for one himself. Compared to Uchiha Hikari, he knew just how ridiculously powerful this thing was.

It was just like how the Uchiha used to enjoy showing off and challenging others to duels.

During the first ever joint Chunin Exams, some Uchiha members wanted to test themselves, so they picked a fight with a team from the Sun God Kingdom.

And then—well, there was no "and then."

Back in Konohagakure, the Uchiha clan could still put up a fight against the Hyuga clan. But now, it's completely one-sided. Especially with the seal activated, the power boost is terrifying—ordinary people don't stand a chance.

Uchiha Hikari clearly didn't understand this. She remained on guard, watching Hyuga Hitoshi closely.

"From now on, you can go wherever you want. If you're ever in danger, this seal will protect you."

Hyuga Hitoshi calmly returned to his seat, picked up his chopsticks, and started eating. With the power of the Sun God Seal, all he needed to do was give Uchiha Hikari the same special reminder he gave his women, and she would be completely safe.

"But to be honest, even that peaceful world you long for is just a bigger cage. There's not much difference."

"Of course, the only difference is that in this bigger cage, I'm the real warden. If anyone wants to mess with you, they'll have to go through me first."

Uchiha Hikari scoffed. He sure knew how to talk. She retracted her Mangekyou, indifferent. She was used to being treated differently. It didn't bother her anymore.

But—

"The game can't be interrupted, and I won't miss the new 3D movie release. Also, I have specific food preferences. If you can't handle that, don't expect me to fight for you, let alone give you my chakra."

Accepting her fate, Uchiha Hikari laid out her conditions. She still thought Hyuga Hitoshi was trying to use her power for something.

Hyuga Hitoshi couldn't be bothered to explain. Time would prove everything.

But from the way she talked… was she expecting him to take care of her?

No way.

She wasn't livestock. Why should he spoil her?

Giving her the seal was just to make sure no one else took advantage of her. Did she think he was some rich landlord?

"If you want games, get a job and earn your own money. You have hands and feet, don't you?"

Hyuga Hitoshi shrugged. He was good at handling stubborn girls. Sure, the Sun God Seal meant she was technically his now, but since he followed a "no initiative, no responsibility, no rejection" policy, and they weren't actually in a relationship, why should he accommodate her?

"You're really letting me go out?"

Uchiha Hikari wasn't angry. She just looked at Hyuga Hitoshi in surprise.

"I always keep my word."

Hyuga Hitoshi kept eating without a care.

"Heh."

Rumors stop with the wise. Conversations end with "heh."

The air grew a little tense.

Fugaku, being a smart man, made up an excuse about urgent business and slipped away. He didn't understand all this back-and-forth between men and women. After all, he had lost everything—he wasn't even really a man or a woman anymore.

Instead of wasting time analyzing this couple that was obviously going to end up together but kept going in circles, Fugaku decided to go see what his son was up to.

"Don't disappoint me, Itachi."

Sitting cross-legged on the path leading to the inner quarters, Uchiha Fugaku gazed ahead, waiting for the outcome.

But there was no doubt—his eldest son was bound to let him down.

Under the same starry sky, outside the Uchiha compound, on top of a power pole, Itachi quietly observed below.

"Father's defense is airtight. No matter where I try to break in, there are too many guards in every direction. But he's overlooked one crucial detail."

Staring at the main gate, Uchiha Itachi's Three Tomoe Sharingan glowed red.

He focused too much on defending the sides and forgot about the front.

If I charge straight through the main gate…

Landing softly on the ground, Itachi fixed his gaze forward, waiting for the signal from the man who called himself Uchiha Madara.

He knew there was no way he could break in alone. Let alone force his father to hand over the Uchiha clan's ultimate weapon and seal that person.

His father also had the Mangekyou Sharingan. According to records, he could even awaken the third power—Susano'o.

Back in the day, he and Uchiha Shisui were known as the Uchiha Twin Stars. Some even compared them to the Green Flash.

Boom!

The explosion came as expected. Uchiha Itachi took a deep breath and stepped toward the main gate of the Uchiha compound. Someone had already drawn the clan's attention, which meant the front defenses would be weaker. He could break in quickly and deal with his father.

Originally, he planned to enter openly as the eldest son of the Uchiha clan. However, his father seemed to be wary of him. Even he wasn't allowed near that area, so the only way in was by force.

"It's time."

The angry shouts and sounds of battle echoed in the distance. Itachi clenched his teeth and pushed the gate open.

But to his surprise, a small figure stood calmly in the courtyard, as if he had been waiting for him all along.

"Nii-san, come practice shuriken with me."

A childish voice rang out, and Itachi immediately knew who it was. He let out a quiet breath of relief, but at the same time, an internal struggle began.

According to his plan, he was supposed to seal away the Uchiha's weapons first, then find his younger brother and set him on a path for the future, guiding him to grow step by step.

This was too soon.

But...

"Forgive me, Sasuke. This will be the last time."

Silently apologizing in his heart, his face twisted into something wild. His Three Tomoe spun rapidly in his eyes, and his newly awakened Mangekyou reflected the line between justice and cruelty.

"My foolish little brother..."

Step by step, he walked toward Sasuke. He was ready to trap him in Tsukuyomi, his heart cold as ice. With a killing intent in his eyes, he pulled out a kunai and pointed it toward the clan compound behind him.

"Right now, you're not even worth killing."

Clink—

A crisp snapping sound suddenly rang out, cutting off Itachi's words.

His eyes widened in shock as he saw the kunai, now broken in half—crushed by bare hands. Then, his gaze fell on Sasuke's left eye, where a white pupil had appeared.

His little brother, the second son of the Uchiha clan—Sasuke had awakened the Byakugan!

The shock lasted only a moment. He had to make Sasuke understand the gap in their strength. Blood-red tears streamed from his eyes as he lost himself in madness. Without hesitation, he cast Tsukuyomi on his own brother.

Buzz!

But in that instant, the mysterious Tsukuyomi world shattered before Itachi's stunned gaze. A heavy pressure weighed down on his chest.

His eyes darted back to Sasuke, only to see a golden mark glowing on his forehead.

"Nii-san, I said, come practice shuriken with me."

The chaos within the clan, the invasion of the village—none of that mattered.

As long as his brother came with him and left this place, none of it would have anything to do with him.

Would family bonds win, or would Itachi's overwhelming sense of duty take over? Everything depended on his choice.

"Next time, Sasuke. I have something I must do."

But his answer only brought disappointment.

"Something you must do? Why don't we go talk to Father about it?"

That wasn't something that could be solved with a conversation.

This wasn't something Sasuke could understand, nor was it something he should be involved in.

If talking could fix everything, Asuma wouldn't have died.

Besides, some things Sasuke wasn't meant to know—he was just a child.

Itachi's eyes remained firm. He didn't answer, but that silence was answer enough.

"Is that so?"

Sasuke took a deep breath, unable to hide his disappointment. At this moment, it felt like he was seeing his brother in a new light, and his heart ached. Even though many in the clan called him a weasel, Sasuke still had deep feelings for the brother who had always taken care of him.

But that didn't mean he could just stand by and let his brother do something wrong!

It was because he cared that he had to stop him!

The intense emotions triggered something in Sasuke, and three tomoe appeared in his right eye—but this was just the beginning.

He took his stance and prepared the iconic Gentle Fist technique—Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. Then, he raised a hand, signaling to his brother.

"Nii-san!

Come on, let me see your resolve!"

On the night of the massacre, moonlight shone over the land.

The Uchiha clan was in chaos, filled with noise and turmoil.

And there, standing in Itachi's way, was Sasuke—his Byakugan and Three Tomoe Sharingan activated in anger.

A fated battle was about to unfold ahead of time!
