After the Supernatural Forces' unexpected experiment, Cecilia was given no further explanation. Nothing about what they wanted to gain from it, why they hadn't bothered to clue her into the situation, or even what would happen next. She was simply told to return to her cell and comply with whatever else they asked of her. At the end of the day, another X-Ray was taken and she was left alone in her cell.
"You b*tches better get the bloody hell outta me tonight," Cecilia muttered to the parasite's two voices as she lay on her cot.
That's the plan, the female voice said. Do you really have to be so crude, though?
Cecilia flipped the parasite off and made a nasty face. "You try being para-whatever-ized and see if you can hold your temper, slugface."
[Oooh clever!! Could've been just a bit better though, I give it a 6/10. If you really want to insult us, call us a limbless space slug. Much better, no?] The other voice commented.
Are you TRYING to tick her off? The female voice asked, exasperated.
Cecilia began counting downwards from 10, breathing slowly and clenching her fists.
[Man, as usual, no one gets the reference.]
What reference?
[Haaah, you're definitely a limbless space slug: incredibly slow to catch on and possessing little to no social charm.]
Say that again, I dare you!
"Both of you, shut up! Hell, can't y'all just shut up for two minutes? I'm tryin' to sleep here!" Cecilia hissed.
After that, Alesha respected their host's wishes and remained silent despite the System's provocations; as usual, Rogork had no regard for what anyone else wanted when their desires conflicted with its own, and yammered on to its heart's content.
----
A few hours later
The security guard on shift, assigned to monitor Cecilia as she slept that night, pinched himself to keep awake. He glanced at the screen connected to her room. He yawned.
Then, doing a double take, he stood up suddenly. His chair fell over from the abruptness of it.
She was thrashing about in agony, mouth open. Was she screaming? He wished they'd disregarded privacy and installed a bug so he could have heard her.
He hastily unclipped the radio from his waist and called for his superior.
Shortly thereafter, a few security guards escorted a doctor to Cecilia's room. Her screams were audible from the hallway.
The doctor tried a variety of methods, but couldn't figure out what was wrong.
In the end, because she was infected by an alien parasite and couldn't be taken to a public hospital for treatment, they could only watch helplessly. They couldn't even risk tranquilizing her in case the alien would have an adverse reaction to the medicine. The doctor, of course, protested this, insisting that since it had parasitized a human body and had no poor reactions to Earth substances so far, they should at least reduce its human host's pain.
However, the orders came from higher up, and no one could defy them.
Fifteen minutes later, her convulsing ceased.
She woke up shortly after that.
"Bloody hell, that hurt," she cursed. "Oy parasite, lying b*tch, what's the deal?"
No answer came.
"... Parasite?"
Immediately after that, Cecilia underwent a medical examination. Test results concluded that the parasite's cells had fully merged with her own; rather than being separate from her, they were now intermingling with her. It was as if the parasite's mind had died and ownership of its body had been transferred to Cecilia. In the end, the parasite had taken over 95% of her body -- everything but the brain.
The scientists hypothesized that even her brain might eventually assimilate with the parasite's tissue, given enough time.
She was given a deal, or perhaps more accurately, an ultimatum: join the Supernatural Forces and get paid to allow them to continue to study her, or sign an NDA and adopt a new, provided identity in another country. Cecilia chose to join the Supernatural Forces. She liked the idea of "getting to kick the asses of supernatural shit."
Over the next few years, she underwent a lot of training, testing, and study. Effects of the parasite's Skill still lingered. When she was exhausted after a battle, she'd attack any strong male in sight. Luckily, since she was among the Supernatural Forces, these men were able to defend themselves and there were very few casualties. That, coupled with her fighting style, gave her the nickname Miss Mantis. She hated the Miss part of it and insisted she only be called "Mantis," but people still used her full nickname whenever she wasn't around.
Strangely enough, although the Skill supposedly belonged to the parasite (who never bothered her again after the promised day), any men whose hearts she devoured still developed eggs in their chest cavities. No amount of study could figure out the mechanism for this. What's more, the eggs that hatched seemed to be larval versions of the alien parasite, yet Cecilia was notoriously defensive of them. She was famous for assaulting anyone who dared to harm them. When questioned, she insisted that she felt like they needed to be protected, that they were just babies and didn't deserve to be tormented just for being different.
This meant that except for the first batch, which had been dissected without her knowledge, the others were allowed to mature, under close supervision. It made a lot of people very uncomfortable. Their perceptions of her children changed after one of them "infected" a too-curious agent who'd decided to play with it. It proceeded to take over the rest of his body besides the brain, just like the parasite who'd infected Cecilia, and once it had, the agent developed the supernatural powers of the man whose heart had been eaten. The agent reported that the parasite never communicated with him, and that aside from an increased appetite, there were no side effects to the parasitization.
After that, agents clamored to be chosen by Cecilia's strange, alien children and her title evolved into Mama Mantis. She hated this one even more and her famously bad temper kept anyone from saying it to her face.
In this way, Alesha and Rogork unknowingly left a legacy on old Earth, a legacy of symbiotic relationships with alien creatures that greatly empowered the Supernatural Forces.
In time, that organization evolved into the Celestial Guard, an organization that, unlike the Human Alliance's publicly known Anti-Irrational Forces, was not opposed to utilizing unknown powers for humanity's benefit.
