Chapter 87 - CHAPTER 76 - THE MANAPHY EGG DOESN'T HAVE "MUCH TIME" LEFT TO HATCH

The rest of the day was quite fun, we ate together while Talia stalked Mew, who was hiding behind me, but it was still quite fun. Being in the middle of a huge meadow, surrounded by dozens of Pokémon, playing and running around... it's just wonderful; something I will never get tired of. The Pokémon world is wonderful and so far I have not been able to observe its darkest side, in other words, until now, I have been able to notice that there were no significant dangers in this world, however, that does not mean that there are none; or at least I think so.

[All inhabited worlds have their own mysteries and the Pokémon world is no different, it's up to your luck to unveil them or not]

I remember once playing a hack rom with a rather dark theme and I also remember that it had something to do with Team Rocket... Would there be something like that in this world?

[In this world there is nothing similar, because, after all, hack roms are unofficial stories made based on this world]

Do you mean by that that only the official Pokémon games and anime show the vastness of the Pokémon world?

[Not quite, but you won't find something similar like that hack rom in this world]

How are you so sure of that? I mean, it's possible that it exists.

[… I can't tell you because I'm so sure that doesn't exist, but... believe me when I tell you that, in this world, that doesn't exist]

Does that mean that there are other worlds where that can exist?

[No comment, you don't have enough authority to know that]

Will I ever have that authority?

[Maybe, but for now focus on your adventure and stop thinking about unnecessary things]

Okay, you're right, I'll enjoy my adventure in this world and not worry about things I don't understand.

"Ash, why is your backpack shining?" – asked Professor Oak.

We were finishing eating when suddenly Professor Oak mentioned that.

"It's true, what is it that you carry in there that makes it shine like that?" – Talia asked curiously.

"Ah, this... I guess it's okay to say it" – I sighed.

Since they already know about Mew: Why should I care that they know about Manaphy's egg? I don't think it's worth hiding it or lying saying it's nothing.

"What are you hiding?" - asked Professor Oak curiously.

"This" - I said.

I went over to my backpack and took Manaphy's egg out of my backpack, which was glowing slightly inside the incubator Celeste's grandmother gave me.

"That's...!" – said Professor Oak in surprise.

"A Manaphy's egg!" – Talia said.

Quickly, Talia threw her snack on the floor not realizing that a Tauros had approached and was eating it and quickly grabbed the incubator where Manaphy's egg was located.

"That color, that red circle surrounded by small yellow spheres... there is no doubt that it is a Manaphy egg!" – said Talia in amazement.

Her face was glued to the glass of the incubator; as if she was looking forward to taking it out there and inspecting it closely, however, even she knew that such an egg was much safer inside an incubator than outside, so she did not take it out and simply observed it from the outside.

"Where did you find it?" – Professor Oak asked.

"I found it on the bank of a river, just after starting my journey" – I said.

It's the story I told everyone, so I'll keep telling that story until the end, at least until I can talk about my system to others, but how I can not do that anytime soon... This is the best excuse.

"What? Did you find it in Kanto? I thought you might have gone to Sinnoh and found it by chance, but... in Kanto? How is that possible?" – said Professor Oak surprised.

"What's so strange about it being in Kanto?" – I asked curiously.

Since I started my journey, I've seen in Kanto Pokémon from numerous regions and not just Kanto, Bunneary is a great example of that, even though it's now a Lopunny I mean.

"The Manaphy are originally from the Sinnoh region and as far as we know, they are only in charge of protecting the seas of the Sinnoh region and very rarely leave that region" - Talia explained.

"That's right, plus Manaphy only lay a Manaphy egg once in their lifetime" - Professor Oak added.

"The Manaphy? I thought the Manaphy could only lay Phione's eggs" - I said.

Technically it is true, in addition, in video games where you can get Manaphy, you always got them through the Mystery Gift or by playing another game previously, such as Pokémon Ranger, a spin-off of the saga.

[By the way, Pokémon Rangers do exist in this world]

I'm not surprised, in anime they also existed.

"That's right, normally Manaphy only lay Phione eggs, but when a Manaphy is reaching the end of its lifespan, it lays one last egg, a Manaphy egg, that's how the species stays unchanged, although of course this information is not 100% accurate" – said Professor Oak.

"What do you mean it's not 100% accurate? It's obvious that any research done by me is 100% true" – Talia said a little offended.

"Your claims are based on unproven facts, you know that Manaphys stay in the water for most of their lives and above all, you never saw any" - said Professor Oak.

"My research is contrasted with numerous historical facts of hundreds of people who have been able to get close enough to a Manaphy to know, moreover, that I have never seen one... that will change thanks to my great friend Ash, right?" – Talia said.

"Huh? I wouldn't mind showing him to you once it's born, but..." – I said.

"Did you see? Once I study a flesh-and-blood Manapaphy, you won't be able to talk that nonsense anymore" - Talia said proudly.

"Ash's Manaphy will be born without knowing what it is to be among others of his own species and he will surely believe that Ash is his father... I doubt very much that studying him will prove the veracity of your research" – said Professor Oak.

"He will! Even if a Pokémon is raised as a baby with his trainer, it will retain their instinct, so that statement is completely discarded, the Manaphy out of the egg will have the same behaviors as one that has spent its whole life living with their species" - said Talia.

"You know that's not true, a Pokémon raised as a baby by a human will never be able to behave 100% like one in the wild," said Professor Oak.

"Your theory is inconclusive and there are numerous studies that prove you wrong!" – Talia said.

"Wrong? Unlike your research on Manaphy, my studies are based on tangible facts that have actually happened, in fact, to write all my articles I have had to live among Pokémon until I proved my theory" - said Professor Oak.

"What? You know that Legendary Pokémon are very difficult to see and, therefore, very difficult to study!" – Talia said.

Then, they were arguing for a while about who was right and who was wrong, a discussion that lasted almost two hours. During those two hours, the Manaphy egg glowed for about 20 more minutes and then its glow disappeared, seriously: How long does it take for a Manaphery egg to open?

[A Mythical Pokémon egg takes a few months to open, I estimate that within a month it will be able to open without problems]

*Note: the Egg of Mew have been hatched beacause it was about to hatch when that Mew give it the egg to him.

A month...? Then it will be difficult to train so that he can battle in the Pokémon League...

[Legendary Pokémon and Mythical eggs have a much higher incubation time than regular Pokémon eggs]

It makes sense.
