Her eyes had been red and swollen from crying since the day of the explosion, her throat hoarse and raw. Even now, her eyes remained bloodshot, and her voice showed no signs of recovery.
Alex Carter's attentiveness was evident.
"Thank you."
"I don't like hearing you say thank you," Alex said seriously. "So… don't repeat it."
That wasn't the phrase he wanted to hear from her.
Lily took a tissue to wipe her tears, picked up the documents, and flipped through them. "These shares are of no use to me. I don't know how to manage this kind of business."
"Lily, must the feud between the Carter and Anderson families continue for another generation?" Alex asked, his gaze fixed on her. He opened the box of throat lozenges, unwrapped one, and handed it to her.
Lily looked at him, her eyes filled with a hint of confusion. She took the lozenge from his hand and placed it in her mouth. Its incredible, refreshing mint flavor seemed to mirror Alex's calm demeanor.
