Chapter 73 - Necklace Making

Kite PoV

Kite felt sleepy even as he woke up. Their flight in the night meant he and the others didn't get much sleep. It also didn't help that their nerves were on edge after the unexpected attack by the ice golems. He rubbed his eyes, trying to shake off the grogginess, and glanced around at his friends.

Elian was already up, his sword resting beside him as he went about reinforcing their camp with stone barriers. Liliana was tending to some plants nearby, her gentle touch coaxing them to bloom despite the early hour. Ludo was flipping through his tome, likely studying spells or planning their next move. Cassia was at the edge of the camp, practicing with her dual swords, the flames flickering in the dim morning light. Sylvana was meditating, eyes closed, as the wind gently swirled around her.

Kite couldn't help but smile at the sight. Despite the exhaustion and the dangers they faced, his friends were unwavering in their determination. He stood up and stretched, feeling the stiffness in his muscles from the restless night.

"Morning," he greeted, his voice still a bit hoarse from sleep.

Elian looked up and nodded. "Morning, Kite. How'd you sleep?"

Kite chuckled, shaking his head. "Not great, but I guess that's to be expected."

Liliana approached, offering him a small, vibrant flower. "Here, this should help. It's a morning bloom; it has some energizing properties."

Kite accepted the flower with gratitude, inhaling its fresh scent. "Thanks, Liliana. I needed this."

Cassia sheathed her swords and walked over, her usual smirk in place. "Ready for another day of adventure, Kite? We've got a lot to figure out."

Kite nodded, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Yeah, let's get to it."

Sylvana stood up from her meditation, her eyes opening slowly. "We should discuss our next steps. The attack last night wasn't random. Someone powerful is targeting us, and we need to be prepared."

Ludo closed his tome and joined the group. "Agreed. We need to find out who's behind this and why they're after us."

Elian finished reinforcing the camp and turned to the group. "We need to stay vigilant. Whoever's controlling those ice golems won't stop here."

Kite looked at each of his friends, feeling a surge of determination. "We'll face whatever comes our way. Together."

Liliana smiled, her eyes filled with warmth. "Let's have breakfast first. We need our strength."

Kite smiled weakly. "Okay."

Cassia glanced at him and pulled him over to the side while the others got started on making breakfast.

"What's wrong?" Kite asked, blinking.

"You have an idea of who might be behind those golems, don't you?"

Kite sighed. "Seems you do too."

She crossed her arms. "Yes, the Sapphire Dragon you upset. It appears she isn't letting you guys go unpunished. Despite how far we have traveled, her constructs have managed to keep up. It's only a matter of time until she shows up."

He gulped. Taking her down and escaping from her was a tough ordeal.

"I think it will be best to placate her rage."

"What do you suggest?"

Cassia rubbed her chin. "I know she likes gems and precious metals. Maybe we could give her something like that."

Cassia's suggestion made sense, though. The Sapphire Dragon was known for her love of gems and precious metals. If they could find a way to appease her, perhaps they could avoid another confrontation.

"Do we have anything that might interest her?" Kite asked, trying to recall their inventory.

Cassia nodded. "I think we have a few things that might work. We should gather everything we have and see if it's enough."

Kite took a deep breath, feeling a bit more hopeful. "Alright. Let's talk to the others and see what we can come up with."

They rejoined the group, who were busy preparing breakfast. The aroma of cooking food filled the air, and despite the tension, it provided a small measure of comfort.

"Hey, everyone," Kite began, drawing their attention. "Cassia and I were talking, and we think we might know who's behind the ice golems. We believe it's the Sapphire Dragon."

A collective murmur of concern spread through the group. They all knew the danger the Sapphire Dragon posed.

Liliana looked worried. "The Sapphire Dragon? But we traveled so far... How did she find us?"

Elian clenched his fists. "It doesn't matter how she found us. What matters is what we do next."

Cassia stepped forward. "We think we might be able to placate her. She has a fondness for gems and precious metals. If we offer her something valuable, it might calm her rage."

Sylvana nodded thoughtfully. "It's worth a try. We need to gather everything we have that might interest her."

Ludo stood up, his tome in hand. "Let's take stock of our supplies and see what we can offer."

The group quickly began to search through their belongings, pooling together anything that might catch the Sapphire Dragon's eye. They found a small collection of raw gems.

Kite laid everything out on a cloth, examining the items. "Do you think this will be enough?"

Cassia shrugged. "It's hard to say. It would be best if these stones were refined. Thankfully, I know a bit about gem polishing and cutting. I could put these together to make a necklace. Although we will need to buy a chain or find some metal to do so.

Kite felt a flicker of hope. A beautifully crafted necklace might just be enough to placate the Sapphire Dragon. He nodded at Cassia, feeling a sense of purpose.

"That sounds like a great idea, Cassia," Kite said. "Let's see what we can do."

"We should head to a nearby town to find a chain," Elian said.

Liliana smiled, her eyes reflecting a glimmer of hope. "While we're there, we can also look for any enchanted plants or herbs that might enhance the beauty of the necklace."

Ludo chimed in, "I'll help with any enchantments we might need to make the necklace more appealing. A touch of magic could make it irresistible."

Sylvana, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke. "I'll keep an eye out for any signs of the Sapphire Dragon. We need to be ready to present our offering at a moment's notice."

Kite felt a surge of gratitude for his friends' willingness to help. Despite the danger they faced, they were all in this together. "Thank you, everyone. Let's get to work and head to the town."

They quickly packed up their camp and mounted their mythical creatures. The griffin and phoenix took to the sky, carrying them towards the nearby town. The journey was swift, and the sight of the town's bustling market provided a welcome distraction from their worries.

As they landed just outside the town, Kite felt a mixture of relief and urgency. They needed to find the chain and any other materials quickly.

Splitting up, they each took on different tasks. Kite and Cassia headed towards the market stalls that specialized in jewelry, while Liliana and Ludo searched for enchanted plants and herbs. Elian and Sylvana kept watch, ensuring they stayed alert for any signs of the Sapphire Dragon or other threats.

Kite and Cassia approached a stall filled with various chains and jewelry pieces. The merchant, an elderly woman, greeted them warmly.

"Looking for something special?" she asked, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.

"We need a chain for a necklace," Kite explained. "Something sturdy and beautiful."

The merchant nodded and began showing them various chains. After examining several options, they settled on a finely crafted silver chain that seemed perfect for their needs.

"Thank you," Cassia said, paying the merchant with some of their remaining coins.

Meanwhile, Liliana and Ludo had found a stall selling enchanted plants and herbs. They selected a few shimmering leaves and flowers that would complement the necklace beautifully.

With their purchases in hand, the group reconvened in the town square. Kite held up the chain, feeling a sense of accomplishment. "We've got everything we need. Let's head back and put it all together."

They mounted their creatures once more and flew back to their campsite. Upon their return, Cassia quickly got to work, carefully polishing and cutting the raw gems. She arranged them on the silver chain, creating an intricate and stunning design.

Liliana added the enchanted leaves and flowers, their subtle glow enhancing the necklace's beauty. Ludo murmured incantations, infusing the gems with gentle enchantments to make them even more captivating.

Cassia had Elian cover the necklace sand to finish putting it all together.

As the hours passed, the necklace began to take shape. The polished gems glistened in the sunlight, arranged in an intricate pattern on the delicate chain. Elian's sand had helped the gems absorb the cousins' enchantments.

Cassia smiled. "Looks done."

Kite couldn't help but marvel at the masterpiece before him. The necklace was stunning. "It's beautiful, Cassia."

Elian stepped forward, his expression serious. "Now we just need to present it to the Sapphire Dragon and hope she accepts it."

Sylvana returned from her patrol, her eyes sharp. "We need to be careful. The Sapphire Dragon is powerful and unpredictable. But I believe this offering will speak to her."

Kite took a deep breath, feeling a mix of fear and hope. "Let's prepare for her arrival. We need to be ready."

The group gathered around the campfire, their nerves on edge as they waited. The tension in the air was palpable, but there was also a sense of unity. They had faced countless challenges together, and they would face this one too.

As the sun began to set, a distant roar echoed through the sky. The ground trembled beneath them, and a chill filled the air. The Sapphire Dragon was approaching. Hopefully their idea would work out.
