Chapter 164 - Leaving StormCradle (IV)

The tavern's atmosphere would hit anyone like a wave as soon as the door screeched, opening. Present in that wave was the noise of clinking mugs, roaring laughter, and the occasional bark of a drunken argument. Warm light from mana lanterns immersed the stone-y interior, which cast long, flickering shadows on the walls. The scent of roasted meat and spiced brew filled the air, mingling with the faint, musty aroma of well-worn timber, again used for stairs and also the counter.

Conversations halted for a moment as heads turned toward the entrance, wanting to see who entered the establishment. The chatter dipped to a low murmur, and a palpable tension spread through the room as all eyes fixed on the two cloaked figures standing in the doorway.
