He immediately took out his phone, his hands trembling slightly.
Glancing at the screen, he saw the list of new messages.
Finally, the network was connected. He unlocked the screen and saw they were all from Eliza.
A heavy sigh of relief escaped his lips.
She was fine, at least. The tension that had gripped his chest eased slightly as he opened the text messages.
He leaned back in his seat, and read through each of her messages.
The concern and worry in her words were palpable, each message more worrying than the last one. Vaughn's heart ached at the thought of her anxiety.
He didn't reply, but instead directly called her.
The call went through, and Vaughn waited.
It took a while before Eliza picked up, her voice was still tense and filled with worry.
"Hello, Vaughn? Where are you? I've been trying to call you. Why didn't you pick up? Are you okay? Hello? Are you there? Answer me? Vaughn???" Her voice was a rapid-fire of questions, her anxiety was evident in her voice.
