Oliver and his crew sailed towards the purple peak island while Rock navigated the ship.
Oliver and his crew were surprised at how skillful Rock was while navigating the ship.
Oliver smiled at that, and then he said to Rock, "I never thought that you were a great navigator, Rock; the ship is sailing way smoother with you on board."
Baki's eyebrows twitched when he heard this, but he didn't comment on Oliver's remarks.
Rock rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, and Revy smirked when she heard Oliver praising Rock. She then said to Oliver, "Rock has always enjoyed studying navigation ever since we were kids; he is the best navigator you will ever see."
Everybody smiled when they heard this, but Rock shook his head, then he said to Revy, "No, Revy, compared to those geniuses, I am just second-class navigator."
Baki was confused when he heard what Rock just said and asked him, "Why are you underrating your skills? According to what we are witnessing now, your navigation skills are top-notch; you are a great navigator."
Rock sighed when he heard this, and he started explaining his reasoning to Baki and the others: "Listen, there are two main types of navigators in this world: the instinctual navigator and the calculation-based navigator."
Oliver and the rest got interested when they heard this, and they listened. Intently, Rock then continued his explanation: "The instinctual navigators, they are born geniuses; they can predict the wind and the waves through their instinct. I envy those people."
When Oliver and the others heard this, they were surprised, and Rock continued, "The calculation-based navigators are different; they calculate the strength of the waves and the wind in order to predict them to navigate the ship safely."
Rock then sighed in reluctance and said, "I am a calculation-based navigator. I might seem an exceptional navigator in the Four Blues, but in the Grand Line, I will be an ordinary navigator or a low-tier navigator."
When Revy heard this, she walked to Rock slowly, and then she slapped him hard in the face.
"SLAP."
"THUD."
Oliver and the others were surprised when they saw Revy slapping Rock, and then Revy yelled at Rock, "Are you bitching out on me, Rock? Are you giving up that easily? What about the promise we made when we were kids?"
Rock widened his eyes in shock when he heard this, and he started remembering when he and Revy were kids.
Flashback
An 8-year-old boy was reading a book in one of the orphanage's rooms; he was engrossed in the book.
Suddenly, a little girl that looked like a 9-year-old slammed the room's door open and yelled, "Hey, Rock, did you steal another book from the library again? Why do you keep reading books? Books are boring."
Rock just smiled when he heard what Revy just said. He then turned his head and said to her, "Revy, I want to leave this kingdom one day and travel the world to discover what the world has to offer."
Revy's eyes widened in surprise when she heard this, and Rock continued, "In order to do this, I need to learn navigation and become a navigator."
Revy gave a wide smile and said to Rock, "In this case, you need to become the greatest navigator of all time, Rock, and I will be traveling with you when the time comes."
Rock was surprised when he heard this, and he asked, "You will leave this kingdom with me?"
Revy nodded her head, sat cross-legged on the ground, and said to Rock, "To be honest, I don't like it here, and I am not sure what I want to accomplish in this life. Maybe in the future, or when the time comes and we start traveling the world, I will figure out what kind of goal I want to pursue."
Rock smiled when he heard this. He stood up and extended his hand to Revy. He then said to her, "In that case, Revy, let's work hard and become the best in what we want to pursue."
Revy smiled brightly and nodded her head to Rock; she then shook his hand.
End of Flashback
Rock lay on the ship's deck motionless, his face shadowed by his hair, as the memory of his promise with Revy when they were kids replayed in his mind.
Suddenly Oliver chuckled. When all those present heard Oliver chuckling, they turned to Oliver and looked at him in confusion, but Revy got very angry at Oliver when she heard him chuckling, and she yelled at him, "What's so funny, you asshole?"
Oliver gave Revy a bright smile, then he said to her, "Relax, Revy. I am not laughing at you or at Rock."
Revy was confused when she heard this, and she asked Oliver, "Then what are you laughing at?"
Oliver chuckled again when he heard her question, "I am amused at how luck or maybe fate interferes and takes charge of our lives."
All those present were more confused than before when they heard what Oliver said, and then Revy said to Oliver, "You are not making any sense, dude. Get straight to the point, will ya?."
Oliver smiled and looked intently at Rock, then he started explaining, "Rock just explained to us the main types of navigators, which was intriguing, but what Rock doesn't know or is unaware of is that there is a third type of navigator I call this type of navigator the mixed type."
Rock was shocked when he heard this along with those present. Then Rock shook his head, stood up, and said, "This is impossible. I read every book about navigation I could get my hands on, but there was no book that mentioned there are a third type of navigator."
Oliver nodded his head in understanding, but what he said next shocked Rock: "You might be right if devil fruits didn't exist in our world, but you have eaten a Zoan devil fruit. The Zoan Devil Fruit will not only grant the wielder the power of a specific animal but also grant the wielder the animalistic characteristics of that animal. In other words, you have gained the black bear's animalistic instinct. You only need to master your devil fruit power to become a full-fledged mixed type of navigator."
Rock stood frozen in shock after hearing Oliver's explanation, and after a second, Revy burst into laughter.
"YAHAHAH," She slapped Oliver's back hard and said loudly, "I like you, pretty boy."
Oliver just smiled and walked slowly to Rock and extended his hand to him. He then said to Rock, "Rock, I would love if you joined my crew."
Baki and Naruto were stunned when they heard this, but Revy smiled widely when she heard this.
After a second, Baki came to his senses, and he asked Oliver, "Oliver, are you sure about this?"
Oliver nodded his head and replied to Baki, "Yes, Baki, didn't you hear what I said? Rock had the potential to be the greatest navigator of all time. Do you think I am an idiot to let this opportunity pass by me?"
Baki's eyes lit up when he heard this, and Rock looked confused. His eyes shone in realization, and he said loudly, "Wait a second, you guys are pirates."
Oliver nodded his head and said to Rock, "Yes, we are pirates. I plan to sail to the Grand Line in the future. I need someone with your talent and potential to be part of my crew, Rock."
Rock was stunned when he heard this and yelled at Oliver, "Are you guys insane? That part of the sea is known by another name; it is called the pirates graveyard."
Revy smirked when she heard this, and she said to Rock, "Calm down, Rock. I plan on joining his crew too if he is able to beat me in a duel."
Rock was surprised when he heard this and asked Revy, "Are you sure, Revy? What about Benny and Dutch?"
Revy smirked and answered Rock, "You should know by now these guys are unlike the pirates we encountered in the past. The pretty boy promised me that he will help me save Benny and Dutch."
Rock's eyes widened when he heard this, and Revy continued, "You don't need to worry; I will not leave the kingdom unless I am sure all our friends are safe."
Rock nodded his head, and then Revy said to him seriously, "However, Rock, you should join Pretty Boy. After all, you always wanted to sail around the world and discover what the world had to offer."
Rock stood frozen on the spot when he heard this. After a few moments, he smiled and shook Oliver's hand. Then he said to Oliver, "It is an honor to join you, Captain, but you need to promise me two things first. You need to give me your word that you will save my friends, and second, you need to show me what the world has to offer."
Oliver smiled widely and said, "I promise."
Oliver then turned and said to all those present, "Alright, guys, let's head quickly to Purple Peak Island to teach those pirates a lesson and rescue Revy and Rock's friends."
"YEAH."
Baki, Naruto, Revy, and Rock cheered, and the ship quickly sailed towards Purple Peak Island.
