It was then that a red light suddenly appeared in their direction, aiming directly at them, and the sense of danger Finn had sensed increased further. The red right was aimed directly at Finn and Jake
It took an instant for him to trace the line back to its origin, at the top of the junk pile Rattleballs was looking up to was what had locked into them. Finn was sure he could hear a sort of beeping sound from the machine.
[ A blue Laser rushes at them]
( beep beep scheewww)
Instinct was what Guided Finn.
His body was methodical as he quickly pulled Jake tightly into his hands as he jumped away from the impact point.
[Boooom]
An instant later, an explosion of energy from the machine that was beeping exploded from their previous standing position. It was like a high speed laser, Finn was not sure, all he knew was that the damage it did would have wounded him.
It blasted away a considerable part of the ground they had been standing on, left behind a large charged hole.
Finn did not require to be told twice about the danger that was targeting them and he therefore quickly pulled Jake along to where Rattleballs was standing, hiding from the observative eye of what was at the top of the junk hill.
'What was that thing!?' Finn thought in panic.
His heartbeat wildly as he breathed heavily at the implications.
A second, that was all it would have taken for both to instantly be obliterated.
Finn tried to quickly calm down and think about what had happened.
[Huhh], He felt his panic relax slightly and his reasoning quickly winning over his panic.
'Was that a railgun, or something like a plasma weapon.?'
What he was sure of was that it was very high caliber. It's speed, accuracy, the destruction. Why was such a weapon in a junkyard.
"You have a good reaction time young hero. " Rattleballs blankly uttered. His eyes calmly observing how he had handled the matter. Finn was sure he could see a slight sort of humor in the robots' eyes.
Finn felt a sudden displeasure rise within him. The fact that the robot was aware that this would happen and failed to give a proper head up only made him madder.
Jake was equally heaving to the side. Finn could see how his heartbeat exaggeratedly in his chest as he lay down on his side.
"I think I just saw mom and dad. Dad said high by the way" Jake chuckled slightly and this lifted Finn's spirit but only slightly.
" I can see the anger in your eye's young hero. But when you told me to train you. I decided it would begin immediately. That was nothing more than a test to see how well you respond to danger. It seems I was not wrong in my earlier judgement of you during our fight. You have an uncanny instinct to sensing danger. "Rattleballs nodded along as he rubbed his chin.
Whatever evil thought he was thinking, Finn would rather not have known. He especially did not like the odd sadistic look the robot was giving him, it was disturbing.
" Anyways. As you may have noticed Finn, this was our destination. The locations of the parts you wanted... "
Finn could already tell what came next. The earlier attack had already been enough of a hint of what was required.
"But there is a catch to all of this. As you will have noticed that Junk pile where that thing is sited is where most of the parts and machines you require are located. But the catch is, you will have to take care of that laser machine fast. "Rattleballs smiled as he said this. A sort of smuggish satisfaction at what he had planned.
But Finn was ready to say no immediately.
While he was confident in himself, what he was not foolish.
Earlier he had been outclassed completely by the machines shooting speed. If it were not for his observation Haki. Both Finn and Jake would have been goners. And Finn was not one to recklessly try out his luck once more.
What he was sure of was that under normal circumstances, there was no way he was dodging that laser target again.
" Don't worry young Finn, I also noticed that that earlier attack was too fast for you. So, while I act as a distraction, yours and Jakes objective will be to handle that laser machine while its attention is on me. " Rattleballs said as he stretched his joints in preparation.
Finn found this reasonable. While Rattleballs handled all the agro, his job would be to sneak up on the machine and take it out from its blind spot.
" Let's do this then. " Finn said as he high fived Jake.
"Let's go bro." Finn climbed onto Jake stretched body. As he started moving around the Junk hill.
"Make sure you don't die master. "Finn said to the Robot as he left.
"No need to worry young Finn. RATTLEBALLS!!!" Rattleballs replied and gave a war cry as he charged to do his part
[Boom Boom]
The machine instantly locked onto him, its laser targets missing the dodging Rattleballs.
Behind them Finn could see an explosion going off every following second, like a battlefield happening at their backs.
Finn caught a glimpse of the exchange. Rattleballs was waiting for the red focusing beam to focus on him before he used his extreme speed, quickly shifting away before the laser attack could blast him away.
He did this several times, running circles around the machine but Finn noticed he was doing his part. Taking the full attention of the machine on himself.
"What's the plan Finn." Jake asked as he took his time to stretch up the hill where the machine was.
"Well Jake you've always wanted to be a ninja right. " Finn asked with a low conspiracy tone as he whispered to Jake silently.
He could see the gears turn in Jakes head, and his eyes suddenly widened a realization dawning on him.
" You don't mean..." Jake asked expectantly, a sudden joy blinding him from the evil look in Finn's eyes.
"Yes, yes. I'm giving you a chance to use one of my ninja tools. Doesn't that sound awesome. " Finn said kindly as he looked at Jake sincerely.
"But you'll need to make an incantation before you're able to make use of such awesome power. " Finn leaned in and whispered the required words to Jakes ears.
Jake finally looked to be wary of the words almost put off as he looked at Finn in suspicion. His excitement had also visibly receded.
"This isn't a trick right. " Jake asked suspiciously and Finn's poker face was the best it has ever been.
" On Glob I'm not tricking you." Finn lied through his teeth as he gave Jake an encouraging smile.
"Okay, I'll do it then. " Jake was now back to his confident expression. Yes, he was ready
" Oh great ninja goods (Moooo), I come in your presence requesting, (Chirp chirp) to grant me access to some of you great power(wooff)!" Jake had a serious expression as he did exactly as Finn explained to him.
'The ninja god requires to be both entertained and boosted of to get his attention. As he is also a patron of animals, he likes to hear the voices of different animals as his follower request something of him. Do so and your request will be fulfilled.'
This were the words Finn told Jake and to see them done with such dedication almost made Finn break his cover, his shaking shoulder almost made him break into laugh.
But he held it in. No, this prank of his was long term, it was revenge that would be repeated with only him being in the know.
Jake continued to make different animal sounds but nothing happened. Finn could see the embarrassment start to settle in him is when he finally acted.
The Nomicon moved forward its pages opening in front of Jake.
"The ninja god has accepted your offerings Jake, now receive your prize. " A cold burst of cold air came from the Nomicon as a blue ice-cold ninja ball hovered above the opening pages.
"Take it Jake. " Jake reached out his hands to take the ninja freeze ball in his hands almost in reverence and the book slammed shut soon after, returning to Finn's side.
"Now go Jake, make use of the awesome power you've been given to slay our foe. "Finn said excitedly and he could see Jake's body shaking in excitement.
"What does it do Finn. " Jake still did not rush off. He stared at the cold ninja ball in his hand in excitement.
"You throw it at the enemy, and it freezes it on touch. " Finn explained simply and Jake nodded his head excitedly.
"Don't worry Finn, I'll slay this foe easily. From now on, call me ninja master Jake. "
Jakes snout shifted to form a sort of ninja covering around himself.
He did a back flip from where they were which launched him from their hiding spot and he started sneaking toward the back side of the machine.
Their climbing reason was to get behind the machine and from there launch a surprise attack.
Finn saw Jake quickly climbing and when he was far enough, Finn doubled over in laughter.
His chest heaving as he held his stomach in slight pain.
' That was interesting.' Nomicon said sounding amused and Finn patted its covers in agreement.
'We should also get moving.' He said taking the book in hand as it opened once more. This time sparks of lightning came out and Finn took the Ninja shock ball into his hands.
He waited for a while until he heard the explosions from the machine stop and a chill started going down the hill where he was waiting.
Finn finally started climbing upwards while whistling casually. It took him barely a minute to reach the top and to no surprise was the image he expected.
The machine was frozen over, a layer of ice covering it completely. Beside it, held onto tightly by a tentacle like metallic claw appendage was Jake, also equally blue and frozen but he was shaking visibly at the cold that covered his body.
"I…did it…Finn." Jake managed over his jittering teeth and gave Finn a thumbs up.
Finn wanted to make use of the Ninaj shock ball in case things went south but it seemed that was unneeded now. And he preferred not damaging any of the internal parts of the machine. It was too valuable to do so.
Finn gave Jake a thumbs up back and approached the machine hurriedly. Even through the ice layer that covered the machine, Finn could still see that it was still active.
He easily climbed up the machines UFO like body, up to where he recalled where its rotating head was.
'Nomicon.' The ninja suit burst from its pages and wrapped around Finns arms tightly.
Finn adjusted his grip and held on to the revolving head and with a pull that exerted his entire strength, Finn directly ripped the head from the machine's lower body. It was only then that the machine seemed to power down and the appendage that was holding Jake let him go.
Finn spawned a fire to aid the shivering dog, and he finally observed the machine curiously, and it was huge.
It had odd sort of symbols formed all over its entire body and the material it was made from looked somehow more stone than metallic. Finn could notice its UFO-like structure and even seven other parts that connected to its body that looked to have been ripped out. Most probably other tentacles like appendages.
This machine also sparked a sort of dejavu in Finn and the answer was at the tip of his tongue, from the earlier Laser blast to the now weird body shape and the symbols on it.
He suppressed the thought for the moment and looked around where the machine had been lying on and he could finally see all the different parts Rattleballs had promised him.
Screens, motors, motherboards, old computers, and even several robots' parts and their bodies.
Finn spared a glance at everything and finally he started waving for Rattleballs who was still down below to climb up.
He was very satisfied with how this adventure of his had gone.
