A year and a half ago, on that stormy night atop the overpass, the greatest regret of Chu Zihang's life was not dying alongside his father.
For a son, to die in battle with his father would have been the greatest honor. But in the end, he left that overpass and never saw his father again.
The only clues left to him were the name "Odin" and the fleeting glimpse of a massive gray dragon in the stormy, rain-soaked skies.
Now, that grayish-white dragon he had longed for day and night had appeared once more!
"Is it... you?!"
Chu Zihang couldn't stop himself from stepping forward. He desperately wanted to know what had happened after he lost consciousness on the overpass that night, a year and a half ago.
"Wait! Don't go, Chu Zihang!" Caesar immediately grabbed his arm, fearing he might rush forward to his death.
BOOM!
The earth trembled, and wild winds howled.
The gray dragon spread its wings with a sudden, powerful beat. Instantly, the roaring shockwave rose like a tidal surge from the ocean, sending everyone flying.
The fractured ground collapsed and caved in. Then, like a meteor ascending to the heavens, the dragon soared straight into the sky.
Its deafening roar, shaking souls to their core, echoed through the Takamagahara.
"Is he trying to stop that thing?!" Caesar's eyes widened in horror as he stared at the unbelievable scene.
Adam Anglewid, transformed into a dragon, hurtled toward six streaks of light tearing through the sky.
On one side, the Sword of Damocles cast down by God. On the other, the supreme ruler of the dragon race.
They clashed like ancient generals charging headfirst into battle, colliding with an earth-shattering boom amidst the torn clouds and reverberating sonic blasts.
Six blazing tungsten rods, trailing hundreds of meters of fiery tails, descended with apocalyptic force.
Adam hovered in midair, wings beating as he stayed a thousand meters above the ground. His golden slit pupils, glowing with intensity, reflected the six destructive beams.
He chanted in ancient and solemn draconic language, and the elements of heaven and earth churned into a torrent, drawn by an immense gravitational force. In an instant, a massive vortex spiraled in the sky.
In that moment, the invisible currents under Adam's control transformed into a sword sharp enough to sever the world.
"Perfect, let's test it out. What kind of scene will unfold when a Dragon King casts an ultra-high-level Word Soul?"
The surging dragon language abruptly stopped, and the turbulent flow of elements went completely out of control at this moment!
"Word Soul: Judgment!"
The air currents transformed into a sword of pure energy, slashing out with an overwhelming and domineering force.
It carried a roaring storm of destructive winds and violently clashed against the Sword of Damocles!
On the ground, the people staring at the sky suddenly found their vision consumed by a dazzling brilliance, as if a second sun had abruptly risen!
After a brief silence, a deafening explosion echoed across the heavens!
Boom——!!!
The overwhelming flow of air suddenly spread across the vast sky!
The dispersing shockwave tore through layer upon layer of clouds, leaving a massive sword scar stretching across the entire sky. The colossal rift created by the collision resembled a mountain range split apart, visible even from a hundred miles away.
"Watch out, the shockwave is coming!" Caesar's pupils dilated in alarm as he saw the cascading air currents rushing downward. He immediately shouted to warn the others.
However, his voice was completely drowned out by the roaring explosion.
Moments later, the immense pressure in the sky descended like a raging river, engulfing the entire mountain range.
Everyone felt as if they were submerged in an endless ocean, their bodies crumbling under the force of the tides. They could only try their best to press themselves against the ground.
The air currents falling from the sky were as heavy as a waterfall, slamming into everyone with an almost tangible weight. Muscles and bones alike groaned in protest.
It was hard to believe—if the "Adam" from earlier had used this level of Word Soul against them, they'd have been shattered into pieces by now, completely irreparable.
"White King—no, Dragon Kings are this terrifying?!" Caesar looked up at the sky, his heart sinking into despair.
If all Dragon Kings were this horrifying, they might as well give up on dragon-slaying altogether. It was just asking for death, plain and simple. Maybe they should switch careers while they still could.
He wasn't sure if the others felt the same way, but judging by the look of despair on Gen Chisei's face, Caesar guessed their thoughts were probably pretty similar.
"Why do I always get stuck with all the hard and dirty work?"
Adam hovered high in the air, his dragon-like face showing a rare expression of helplessness. "Like seriously, you knew divine punishment was going to come down, so why didn't you stop it earlier?"
With Hilbert' acting skills, fooling Herzog was already a challenge, let alone trying to deceive someone who specialized in reading people's hearts—a true "Spectator."
Adam had seen through his little schemes right from the start.
The only reason he had tolerated this delay for so long was because of the "main body's" demands. If he had taken things seriously, this would've been over a long time ago.
Still, no matter what he thought, the act had to go on.
After all, he was just a "tool."
Adam folded his wings and dived down at breakneck speed, breaking the sound barrier instantly. Concentric shockwaves spread through the atmosphere as he plummeted.
BOOM!
The thunderous roar grew louder and louder, shaking the hearts of those on the ground.
From the looks of it, the victor of that sky-shaking battle high above was none other than the supreme being ruling over dragons—the White King!
The hurricane-like gusts tore through the earth like a furious tidal wave, scattering sand and stone. The fierce winds exploded across the landscape.
People shielded their eyes as the ground quaked violently, as if the entire mountain was about to turn upside down.
After a moment, the tremors finally subsided. Hilbert stood expressionless, staring at the massive shadow within the swirling dust cloud.
Another powerful gust swept through, blowing away the dust to reveal the enormous figure of Adam Anglewid.
His body was covered in ash-white scales as tough as granite, and his fully extended wings were so massive they blotted out the moonlight. With a proud, imposing posture, he gazed down at the crowd, small and insignificant like ants before him.
Adam's eyes were a deep, golden hue.
The cold, indifferent vertical pupils radiated a soul-piercing intensity.
WHIRRR!!!
The roaring wind rang in everyone's minds, mixed with faint, otherworldly whispers.
Those caught in it trembled uncontrollably, their bodies betraying them. Their hearts and minds spiraled into a state of helplessness, like prey staring into the abyss, consumed by an unrelenting fear.
The dragon blood within them boiled.
No, it was as if their very souls were being torn apart and reassembled over and over again.
The eerie whispers sounded like a call from the depths of the abyss—terrifying beyond words!
The colossal gray dragon slowly began reverting to his human form.
The rich golden glow in Adam's eyes faded into a faint shimmer.
He glanced at the crowd, now writhing on the ground in agony, veins bulging, their bodies seemingly on the verge of exploding.
Retracting his dragon's aura, Adam spoke in a calm, detached tone:
"If this happens again, you won't be so lucky."
The crowd, recovering from the mental assault, gasped desperately for air, still shaken to their cores.
The echoes of the dragon's roar in their minds and the fear rooted deep in their hearts were unforgettable.
Even now, recalling it sent shivers down their spines and filled them with dread.
Hilbert, who was crawling on the ground, seemed to finally break free from his fear. He struggled to lift his head and looked up at Adam, who gazed down at them like a supreme being. Hilbert's face was filled with confusion.
"I don't understand. If you possess such immense power, why don't you just kill us outright?"
"I believe I've already said this—I have no intention of being an enemy to humanity."
Adam brushed the dust off his clothes casually and spoke lightly, "Besides, have you ever seen an adult get serious with children?"
